kentuck's JournalDemocrats will muffle their criticisms about impeachment if the Committee is very aggressive...
...in questioning witnesses in their investigation.
Their disappointment and criticism has been because they are not happy with the lack of effort from the House up to this point. They don't see an impeachment process and they don't see any progress at getting any testimony from witnesses in the investigation? They appear to be standing still, just spinning their wheels?
But if they are successful in getting a couple of witnesses before them and getting them to answer questions, then most of the base will stop their demands for an immediate impeachment, in my opinion.
It is not enough to do nothing. They must show that they are attempting to get to the facts and are making a serious effort at getting the truth to the American people.
The Judiciary Committee must show progress or the criticisms will grow much louder.
Democrats are holding on to the horns of a dilemma.
Should they impeach or should they not?
Nancy Pelosi is correct - it would divide the country.
But, the country will be divided so long as Trump is the President, whether or not there is an impeachment. That is not a good reason to not impeach Donald Trump.
The other excuse is political. Many of the new Democrats elected in the last election come from previously red districts and they do not wish to gamble with an impeachment hearing.
So they are stuck in the middle. The Judiciary Committee has voted to call witnesses but many doubt if they are serious about the investigation. We shall see in the next two or three weeks.
They simply cannot decide. It is a dilemma for them. We will not know for sure if it is an historical blunder until after the next election? They say they are looking for the facts. Some ask, how many more facts do they need?
If you were on the Judiciary Committee, what witnesses would you call?
I would not put the major emphasis on the Mueller Report. Those folks in that report have already testified under oath. Save them for last.
In my opinion, it would be more productive to subpoena members of the Air Force crew that played golf in Turnberry in Scotland. They would have more information to give than people might think, in my opinion. Everything does not slip by the enlisted men.
Also, the women that were paid off by Donald Trump and Michael Cohen should be called to testify to clear up the record. Also, they could call David Pecker as a witness.
Also, they could attempt to call a couple of Russians, perhaps the lady lawyer that met in Trump Tower and perhaps the rock singer whose father was one of the initial contacts in Russia.
I'm sure there are others they could subpoena.
They need to supplement the Mueller Report and not depend on it solely. However, Lewansowski, Jeff Sessions, Don McGahn, Reince Priebus, General Kelly, General Mattis, and others could be called to testify.
If the Judiciary Committee is serious about their investigation, there are many people they can question to get to the facts.
If the Democrats can get out the facts and the truth without impeachment, then more power to them...
There have been no illusions that Republicans would ever vote to convict in the Senate, if the House were to impeach.
However, we have been bombarded with disinformation from all angles and we have been obstructed at pursuing any legal recourse.
We should not have to go thru an election without knowing the facts and the truth about how Donald Trump became president in 2016. How much did Russia help him? Did he win legitimately?
Without impeachment proceedings, we may never know the truth. So the people will go to the polls once again without the knowledge they need to make an informed vote.
If the Democrats can get the information voters need and the facts can be exposed thru hearings and by calling different witnesses, then it may be possible to impeach in the public square without going thru official impeachment proceedings. But, so far, they have failed to do this.
The impeachment process is not necessarily meant to throw Trump out of office. It is meant to get to the truth and give it to the American people, so they can make an informed decision on election day.
At this time, that is the most important function of an impeachment.
Our government is broken.
And it is going to take more than an election to fix it.
Just my opinion.
The people have no one to blame but themselves. They took their democracy for granted. They were not vigilant. They were not involved. They were ignorant of what was going on around them.
America was a grand experiment for the world. It would be tragic and sad if it were to end. People need the hope and freedom that America promised.
An election, alone, will not fix it. We will need leaders with big ideas and the bravery to tackle the huge problems we face. We will need people that believe in government again. They must unite and work together.
The Founders never meant for so much power to be in the hands of one man.
That's why we dumped King George.
The power was to be with We, the People. The power was to be in the House of Representatives.
They never meant for our country to live or die, on the whims of any one leader. Although they created a "balance of powers" amongst the three branches, they gave the House the power to get rid of Executive if the need was there. They did not give the Executive the power to get rid of the House.
Our Representatives need to understand what was given them by our Constitution. They need to stop bowing to the office that they created so they could have a Commander in Chief in times of war. There was not a whole lot of demand for a President, otherwise.
Democrats ask Trump to resign...
Not really...just kidding.
But it would give him and them something to talk about.
After all, it would be much better if he resigned rather than be impeached.
Republicans could save themselves and our country a huge headache if they could get Mr Trump to resign. They could prevent a lot of embarrassing information from going public in an official impeachment hearing.
That would be the easiest and least painful way out of this mess of a presidency.
Why did Trump say that he would release an "extreme" financial statement next year?
Why did he volunteer that information from out of the blue? I'm sure there was a reason?
In my opinion, he is attempting to head off any financial investigation into his purchase of the Trump Turnberry Golf Resort in Scotland. If asked about it, he can go back to the "financial statement" that he plans on releasing next year? That is one way to divert attention from the topic.
Also, it would indicate that he is concerned about that information. Perhaps an aspiring young reporter will dig down into this story and come up with some answers?
It was unusual for him to volunteer his financial information. Even if he never plans on doing it.
Is US taxpayer money going into the pocket of Donald Trump or Vladimir Putin?
It made no financial sense when Donald Trump bought the Turnberry Golf Course in 2014. There was just not that much money to be made from golf courses. So why did Trump buy it??
Could it be that Donald Trump got the money from Vladimir Putin himself, or from another Russian oligarch, to purchase the Turnberry? If so, could it be that the taxpayers and the US military are giving money to Vladimir Putin, not Donald Trump?
Also, Turnberry would be a great military asset for the Russians. It is no longer losing money - it is making money. Much of it seems to be from the US Air Force?
If Donald Trump is indeed a Russian "asset", as some have claimed, then this would be one of the greatest scams ever against the United States of America?
How did Trump purchase the Turnberry Resort in Scotland?
Did he pay cash?
Did he get a loan thru Deutsche Bank?
Does anyone know?
We know that Russia was very active in money-laundering at that time but no one believes that Donald Trump would ever get involved in anything like that.
