Toomey is trying to show Republicans how they can have it both ways?

Out of one side of his mouth, he says Trump committed "impeachable offenses". But, out of the other side of his mouth, he doesn't know if there is time for a trial or how divisive it might be?

So, they don't want a trial but they want to go on record as being against what Trump did? That sort of covers all their bases.

Why the prosecutions and the impeachment must go forward?

The "domestic terrorists" are emboldened by what happened in our nation's Capitol. The rule of law is threatened at its very core.

The threat must be contained and controlled at this time. If not, it will grow into something very grotesque.

We were lucky to have escaped without more death and bloodshed from Wednesday's assault.

Donald Trump has seeded and germinated domestic terrorism in this country. They look to him for direction and orders. It is not about Democrat vs Republican. This is about anarchy vs freedom. If we do not stop it now, there will be no turning back.

America is at a crossroads and there is only one way to go. Otherwise, we will all live to regret that we did not stop these terrorists in their tracks

Rep. James Clyburn is correct.

The Articles of Impeachment should include the effort in Georgia to extort their Secretary of State into finding "11,780 more votes".

That should be included with the terrorist assault upon our Capitol and upon our elected leaders.

Because it was the precursor to the attack upon our seat of government. They were both intended for the same purpose - to keep Mr Trump in office.

It is understandable that the Democrats do not wish to muddle up the Articles with extraneous charges but they are really one and the same. Even though the dastardly act of assaulting our Government, while they were in the very act of certifying the new President, should be enough to convict any person on Earth.

However, it cannot be seen as a spontaneous, one-time act. It was a continuation of an attempted coup, with violence at the end, in order to maintain power and control of our government.

Rep. Clyburn is correct. They should include the phone call to the GA SoS in their Articles of Impeachment.

Searching for the right words?

Many reporters are calling it the "Capitol Riot". Although it resembled a "riot" in many ways, the word does not truly encapsulate what happened.

Some are reporting it as an "insurrection" and it was that, also. It was inspired by politics and incited by their Leader, but, it still does not capture what happened.

It was a violent assault and it appears to have been planned? There was a conspiracy involved. It was criminal. It was terroristic in nature.

I think it is more accurate to call it a violent domestic terrorist assault upon our Capitol and upon our seat of Government.

Words are important and it is important that we describe it accurately.

The impeachment should be quick but the trial should be slow and thorough.

They should have the trial after Joe Biden is sworn in and after Donald Trump has left the White House. Mitch McConnell will no longer be calling the shots.

Why should they be slow and thorough?

Because they need to educate the American people that have been brain-washed for far too long. They need to know that they have been listening to the Big Lie and they have been played for fools by Donald Trump. The facts should be undeniable.

The House should impeach him immediately but do not send it to the Senate so long as McConnell and Republicans are in charge. It would be useless. They would only try to whitewash it again, like they did before, unfortunately.

There is no rule that says they cannot hold a trial after a President leaves office. But, it would be required that he be impeached before January 20th.

The purpose of the trial would be to clear the record and inform the American people exactly what has happened?

Perhaps they should not just include one charge of insurrection, but other charges as well. They all need to be addressed, in my opinion.

And the new Senate should take their time and subpoena everyone they need to talk with. They should do it right this time.

But they must impeach immediately.

I guess all those guys being arrested are waiting for Trump to call them and offer a pardon?

They must be disappointed that their phones aren't ringing?

What are they going to tell their fellow inmates?

They were just having fun and following the orders of their President. Why is that illegal?

They just don't have any freedoms anymore.

They were just trying to take their country back.

What's the big deal?

One Way Out

January 9, 2021

Where was Mitch and Lindsey and Cruz when the mob was ransacking and destroying the offices...?

...of others?

Were they safe and secure? Did they ever feel threatened? I have not heard if they were lying on the floor, fearful for their lives?

Or if the mob leaders were told not to look for certain people?

Anyone heard about where Mitch was when all this was going on?

For a few hours, Trump was scared that he had finally over-stepped his bounds...

But then, nothing happened. And he went back to his "normal" routine.

Pretending he is a victim. That he was cheated out of the election. That he is standing up for the "average guy". That he loves America and our wonderful flag. That he did nothing to incite the mob to go to the Capitol. That his "revolution" is just getting started. That he has done more for America than any other President in history. That it is "us" vs "them". That it is a trivial matter, created by the "fake news". That the entire march was about his right to keep his Twitter account and protect the 1st Amendment.

But, for a brief fleeting moment, he thought he was going to jail. Now he feels like he has bought enough time to defeat whatever challenges lie ahead.

What are the Democrats' options?

They can impeach Monday morning and send it to the Senate requesting immediate consideration. It is urgent.

Or they could censure Trump which would be nothing more than a slap on the wrist?

Or they could sit idly by and hope everything goes well thru the inauguration of Joe Biden?

What other options do they have?
