Just an FYI - 3,600 people (sadly) drown every year not 360,000 per Dr. Phil

I heard that and thought - 360,000?!??? That’s 12 times the gun deaths.

Like many things they are getting excited about death and hyping the numbers. The “Reopen VA” page on Facebook has a (hilarious) standard response that says 80,000 people die from the flue every year. Yes they misspelled “flu”.

https://www.cdc.gov/homeandrecreationalsafety/water-safety/waterinjuries-factsheet.html

Every day, about ten people die from unintentional drowning. Of these, two are children aged 14 or younger. Drowning ranks fifth among the leading causes of unintentional injury death in the United States.

From 2005-2014, there were an average of 3,536 fatal unintentional drownings (non-boating related) annually in the United States — about ten deaths per day.1 An additional 332 people died each year from drowning in boating-related incidents.2

About one in five people who die from drowning are children 14 and younger.1 For every child who dies from drowning, another five receive emergency department care for nonfatal submersion injuries.1

Just told by one of our IT guys that Zoom meetings now need a password. We switched to Google Hang Outs anyway.

CDC, FEMA have created a plan to reopen America. Here's what it says.

WaPo subscription needed. Got a year just the other day.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/04/14/cdc-fema-have-created-plan-reopen-america-heres-what-it-says/

The plan lays out three-phases: Preparing the nation to reopen with a national communication campaign and community readiness assessment until May 1. Then, the effort, through May 15, would involve ramping up manufacturing of testing kits and personal protective equipment and increasing emergency funding. Then staged reopenings would begin, depending on local conditions. The plan does not give specific dates for reopenings but specified “not before May 1.”

The first priority, according to the CDC response document, is to “reopen community settings where children are cared for, including K-12 schools, daycares, and locally attended summer camps, to allow the workforce to return to work. Other community settings will follow with careful monitoring for increased transmission that exceeds the public health and health care systems.”

The plan also carries this warning: “Models indicate 30-day shelter in place followed by 180 day lifting of all mitigation results in large rebound curve — some level of mitigation will be needed until vaccines or broad community immunity is achieved for recovering communities.”

The plan describes the conditions under which it is reasonable to lift some community mitigation measures, the phased steps to reduce those measures and indicators to monitor the impact of transmission on public health and health system capacities.

My family decided we needed to have "a talk" today

“Dad,” my daughter started “Mom and I have been talking about we really think it’s time...it’s time...for you to either change those shorts or at least wash them”

😁

These shorts are really swimming trunks with the safety net cut out. I can knock this out during my next shower.

A two-fer. BONUS!

Instantly went to division. Victimization - YOU are under attack. The church thing is the same.

"The President has the authority to do what the President does" "The President calls the shots"

I know I got the second one right.

Response to a question about states on the west coast and east saying they will decide when to re-open themselves.
