calimary's JournalAt the moment, I'm still kinda stuck on the absolute unmitigated cockiness I saw on display.
This thought kept stomping up into the front of my brain that I could not push away - "shit, this dude sure is awfully impressed with himself..." I found it thoroughly off-putting.
Welcome to DU, alcina!
Good to have you with us! I think there are many of us who feel this way. This man fell on his sword. Honorable to the end. And he stood up for those who got sent into harm's way when nobody else had the balls to do so - during the whole bush/cheney nightmare. Not ever gonna forget that!
Welcome to DU, Scalded Nun!
Glad you're here! And thank YOU for your service as well. Your point is SO well-taken, and it needs to be said, and heard!
Seems to me the best way to honor and serve our veterans is to STOP CREATING MORE OF THEM!!!!!!
What I will remember about General Shinseki is how he was the lone voice against the Iraq War
during the bush/cheney madness. And he was sidelined for it, too. It's a damn shame this had to happen to him. Thank you General, from one of millions of civilians you served, AND spoke for!
Welcome to DU, PatrickforO!
Glad you're here! Both those ideas are good. Give it up about marijuana - leave it ALONE forcryingoutloud and get out of our faces about it! AND making college more affordable.
They'd hate me as president. One of the first things I'd do is issue some executive order forgiving all student loads. Period. Don't know if that's within a president's range of powers, but I'd do it anyway. A president can formally "forgive" or commute sentences, pardon whatever supplicant seems fitting, correct? Why not this? For Pete's Sake, give the kids a break! They'll have enough of a financial challenge just trying to make their way in the world after school. Besides, it's not supposed to be that damned expensive!!! It's costlier for all of us under the present system!!! We need more highly-educated people to help think us out of the problems we face!!!
What immediately comes to my mind is - the whole idea of empathy would not be sneered at so readily.
The way the cheneys do it. Empathy wouldn't be a dirty word. Empathy would be far more mainstream, accepted, taken more seriously, and not derided.
But women are people, too. Fallible human people. So I imagine the same intoxicants of power and money would infect many of them as well. But the idea of no NFL is not terribly repugnant to me, I must admit. I, too, can live without megasports stupidity no matter who the players are.
Truly. We have to mount a relentless campaign to cover all things NRA with shit.
We have to start equating them and their name and their organization with hoodlums, outlaws, murderers, anarchists, anti-social miscreants. We have to start painting them with shit - just the same way as every CON out there for the last 30 - 40 years has relentlessly painted the whole concept of "liberal" and "liberalism" and "Democrats" with shit. So that it then becomes shit in the public mind. It sinks in as shit in the public mindset, thought-process, reality-lens. It sets and cements THE PERCEPTION.
We have to manage the perception better here. We have to TOTALLY manage the perception here. Back during the 70s and 80s, the jingoistic gun-loving government-hating prejudiced, sexist, willfully (even proudly) uninformed, out-to-lunch Frank Burns characters a la "M*A*S*H" and other presentations on TV, in film, and the popular media, were laughed at. Viewed as comic foils. Ridiculous and well worthy of ridicule. Pathetic figures of derision - that were there to laugh at and NOT emulate or admire in any way. The jester character, who was never meant to be taken one bit seriously - only fodder for laughing and smirking and comedy and farce. Unfortunately, that has all since been turned completely upside down. Frank Burns today would be urged to run for high office. Frank Burns already fully represents the state of Texas. And North Carolina. And Kansas. And too many other places to want to count anymore. Frank Burns has become a fucking hero.
I think this is a legitimate attack line that we should adopt, and push forward.
These hyenas are yowling about their "rights." Well, WE NEED TO START HOWLING ABOUT OURS!!!!!
And we need to remind everyone that the FIRST Amendment came first and IS first for a reason! And the 2nd Amendment'ers can just stand in line - in SECOND place. Because their so-called "rights" DO NOT include bullying the rest of us into silence with their guns.
Welcome to DU, vlakitti!
Glad you're here! Thanks back atcha. Weird that the idiot phony-Joe the phony-plumber would come out with that smart-ass remark of his and prove my point. One never quite expects them to be so, pardon the pun, BALDLY stupid and anti-compassionate. So your "right" to be able to shoot and kill or maim or otherwise damage anybody you feel like aiming at for whatever cockamamie reason you come up with in your alleged paranoiac's lizard "brain" - OUTWEIGHS MY CHILD'S RIGHT TO STAY ALIVE????
Excuse me??????
Um, I think NOT, joe - or whatever you're calling yourself this week.
