Welcome to DU, RiverNoord!

ROFL!!! Glad you're here! It would be exquisite pleasure just to be able to haul out all his lovely statements and shove them back down his throat!

Not a problem, Left Coast2020!

I've already started!

And meantime, we have to think in terms of NOT ONLY 2016 but 2020. THAT is when redistricting happens. Whoever gets the statehouse in the decade years is in charge of redistricting - that's done every ten years. You leave it in GOP hands, then you leave the GOP in control. And look what they've done so far!

...and furthermore...

There is GREAT risk to damaging our brand. Hate to sound all Kardashian on you but the brand is everything. If we help damage and weaken the Democratic brand, we will get stuck with more republi-CONS. And that, to me, is NOT ACCEPTABLE under ANY circumstances.

+1,000,000!!!!

I'm gonna have to refer to this in Will Pitt's thread.

If we damage OUR brand too much - we'll wind up stuck with Brand X.

I think the point was - your best bet is to start building your own infrastructure.

And yes, you start at alderman, dog catcher, school board, and you land those. Then you you start your climb from there - gaining allies, experience, resume credits, supporters, financiers, and more. You make it to mayor, maybe then state legislature (actually I hope that's where you DO go - to the state legislature. Our lovely Dems have somehow managed to neglect the state governments - and look at the mess we have now! Wisconsin, Florida, Maine, Michigan, Texas, Indiana, Kansas, North Carolina - all republi-CON led, and look what they're doing! Sweet God in Heaven, LOOK WHAT THEY'RE DOING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have to take those states BACK!!! There aren't enough Democrats in the state legislatures to stop this Neanderthal republi-CON Bronze-Age-mentality crap anymore! It's like a tidal wave of pus-filled, necrotic shit gushing across the country!!!

That's where we really need you!!! Aim high enough where you can make a realistic, practical difference! Don't mount a Presidential campaign where you'll get a few thousand votes and a whole lot of sneers and adverse media coverage that set you back - and set ALL OF US along back with you.

Believe me, we're with you, Harmony Blue! You ARE our future. My kids are both in their early 20s now. We've had discussions like this many times. I've found myself apologizing to them for the mess we couldn't clean up, and telling them it's up to their generation now.

Hey, for me, it's pretty simplistic. FACT: we simply HAVE TO keep the White House.

We HAVE TO keep it in Democratic hands.

There is no alternative.

Frankly, the only reason you need is the Supreme Court. I grow more concerned if the rush to criticize and trash and take-down people on our side, who might actually have a few redeeming qualities as far as policy positions and such, begins to trash the whole Democratic brand to the point where it becomes more possible for a republi-CON to take the White House back. You think scalia, alito, and thomas are bad, how'd you like two or three MORE of them? If Ruth Bader Ginsburg can't serve any longer - which mentality and political world view would YOU find acceptable in picking her successor? Five-to-four is bad enough. Would you care to risk six-to-three?

In the public perception, a weakened Obama has a bad effect on the rest of the party, especially down-ticket races. And since we're stuck with two parties, we're stuck with the lesser of two evils. I'd love it to be perfect, I'd love for everyone on our side to be sinless. President Obama isn't perfect. But GOD FORBID it had been mitt romney...

I've wondered that myself. It just seems like they're on a frickin' RAMPAGE!!!

I've never seen such an avalanche of bad bills - in so many states.

Really, what are the voters in these states thinking?????? This kind of shit is okay with them???

As a woman, I find that I tend to take this very personally, and I feel like I'm almost literally under siege!!!

Welcome to DU, deurbano. This is so sad.

Glad you're here. So sorry to hear this. This is one of those stories that tends to band us all together in sympathy and concern. And it invariably takes me back to one of mitt wrongney's many campaign speeches in which he railed against the "expansion of the federal government" and the nerve of President Obama wanting to hire MORE police and MORE firefighters! Oh the outrage! WTF was he thinking???? We NEED our first responders! And we need to honor them and their very important life-saving work, pay them well, equip them with anything they want, quit cutting their benefits, quit fucking with them and dismissing them and demeaning them and insulting them and belittling their work, and treat them as the life-savers and rescuers and selfless sacrifice-makers that they are.

I'm so stealing this!!!

Well, this may be heresy but the first thought in my head was to wonder whether Johnny Depp is finally starting to face the risk of being overexposed?

About calimary

Female. Retired. Wife-Mom-Grandma. Approx. 30 years in broadcasting, at least 20 of those in news biz. Taurus. Loves chocolate - preferably without nuts or cocoanut. Animal lover. Rock-hound from pre-school age. Proud Democrat for life. Ardent environmentalist and pro-choicer. Hoping to use my skills set for the greater good. Still married to the same guy for 40+ years. Probably because he's a proud Democrat, too. Penmanship absolutely stinks, so I'm glad I'm a fast typist! I will always love Hillary and she will always be my President.
