Candidate criticized for saying displaced Puerto Ricans shouldn't be able to vote in Florida

Washington (CNN)A Republican congressional candidate is facing a backlash after saying that Puerto Ricans who moved to Florida in the wake of Hurricane Maria last year should not be able to register to vote in the state.

In a video uploaded to YouTube by the campaign of a Republican rival, John Ward -- a candidate in the GOP primary for Florida's 6th Congressional District -- is asked by a voter how he would respond to Puerto Ricans who have "moved either temporarily or permanently to Florida" when "they say that they need more help and that the aid to Puerto Rico is not enough."

Ward replied by saying, "First of all, I don't think they should be allowed to register to vote. It's not lost on me that, I think, the Democrat party's really hoping that they can change the voting registers in a lot of counties and districts, and I don't think they should be allowed to do that."

The candidate went on to say that "we should be looking to put the Puerto Ricans back in their homes. The idea that they can come to the mainland United States, I don't necessarily have a problem with that, but I think we should be thinking about it in terms of getting them back home and providing the capital and resources to rebuild Puerto Rico, which is, I honestly think, is where they belong."

The cops were called to a premier horse racing event to arrest an African American who was just doing his job but apparently made a White person feel nervous.

Photographer Arturo Holmes was covering the 2018 Preakness Stakes in Baltimore on Saturday. Even though Holmes had proper credential, he was racially profiled.

Hobby Lobby Employees Call Police on Black Customer Who Looked ‘Somewhat Like’ a Crime Suspect

An Alabama man says he was racially profiled at a Hobby Lobby store in Trussville this week after an employee called the cops on him while he tried to make a return.

Brian Spurlock said the incident unfolded Tuesday, when he went to return his girlfriend’s recently-purchased vinyl machine, which he claimed was broken. Despite having a receipt for the item, a store manager refused to refund Spurlock his money because the item was already opened.

“I said, ‘Is there somebody else I can talk to that can assist me with this?’ She said ‘yeah wait,'” Spurlock told local station ABC 33|40. The manager then asked for his ID and said she was calling corporate. Minutes later, the police showed up instead.

Apparently, employees mistook the Alabama man for a suspect they say had written bad checks and was returning stolen items to the store. The cops arrived and asked Spurlock for his ID but he balked, asking why they needed to see it. That’s when officers informed him he’d be charged with trespass if he didn’t hand it over.
