"Unmarked Security Forces in DC Spark Fear"

Fear? No. Anger and disgust. Bill Barr has created his own private army in order to bypass Constitutional protections and to prop up trump's autocratic delusions. This must not be allowed to stand unchallenged.

June 3, 2020

So, trump is ignoring the Constitution and committing war crimes against his own people.

Does he really think the rest of the world can't see it and recognize what is going on?

June 3, 2020

And this is how Barr has told trump he can get around Posse Comitatus.

Congress needs to step on the gas with proceedings to rein Billy in. in the meantime, here's hoping governors can refuse, and have the good sense to do so.

Miami already has kept most of them out.

“I was unaware they were here. We didn’t ask them to be here. We told them we didn’t need them here. There is no reason for them to be here.” said Mayor Gimenez.

“There originally was supposed to be 110 of them, the federal agents, but we turned them away. There were 23 of them, dealing with stuff inside federal prison. They are still staying at the hotel, but they were told they weren’t needed. This is federal stuff going back and forth,” said Miami-Dade Police Director Ramirez.

Director Ramirez added that the federal law enforcement agents have not been used for anything.

The few who remained apparently are not being allowed on the streets. Good.

When random Feds and mercs run around with no insignia and no recognizable uniform,

they've invited cosplayers to join in, whether by design or not. Start the countdown for white supremacy groups to ditch the all black and start dressing like these goons. Police and military have uniforms, name badges, and rank insignia for good reason. Setting this precedent is not badass, it's irresponsible and stupid.

June 3, 2020

Oh, yeah. "He deserved it!" has never been a good excuse for murder.

By the time the country has exploded into wall to wall protests, the entire world has seen what is going on and many countries have had sympathetic protests as well, it's far too late to try to get away with that.

Any sensible person ought to know he can't lean on the same old blame the victim nonsense this time around. What an embarrassment to the police union and Minneapolis. What a blatant illustration of the systemic rot that plagues so many police departments. Bob Kroll has got to go.

It's understandable that the meme with trump and Hitler holding bibles

is so popular. It's a great image. The problem is, it's a little too good. If accepted without examination, it crosses over from meme to disinformation territory. There are so many other real comparisons to be made, real photos of the two that are strikingly similar to use. YMMV.

What a rag-tag looking bunch trump is hiding behind.

Mismatched trousers, mismatched shirts, mismatched helmets and shields. Some of them look to be wearing tennis shoes rather than boots. These are not trained police personnel, much less soldiers. Guarding a prison and performing public crowd control are two entirely different things, requiring quite different skill sets and levels of training.

They look like bad news, but not for the reasons trump is going for. The only prison they're guarding now is the White House bunker trump has been hiding in.

Isn't it a little pathetic? Dangerous, absolutely. Still pathetic.

Couple discovers what appears to be unexploded grenade [sting ball] in Washington, D.C.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/live-blog/2020-06-02-nationwide-protests-over-george-floyd-death-live-n1221821/ncrd1222646#liveBlogHeader

A couple was surprised to find what appeared to be a rubber grenade while out for a morning walk in Washington, DC.

Claire Felten, 24, and Arthur Nelson, 25, made the discovery outside the Apple Carnegie Library about 7:30 am in the area of Mount Vernon Square on June 2.

Felten said that when she noticed the black sphere on the ground, she picked it up to take a closer look thinking it was debris left over from civil unrest in the area the night before.

“I realized that there were like little pellets or something inside it that I could feel when I shook it,” Felten said. “We realized, ‘oh wait, nope, this is unexploded so we’re going to put this down and we're going to walk away.”

The couple called D.C. police who responded and disposed of the munition. Authorities described the device as “a non-hazardous rubber shell of a sting ball, a crowd control device used by law enforcement,” in an email to NBC News.

So, in addition to rubber bullets, there are rubber grenades. Great.

https://www.operationalmedicine.org/Safety/Weapons/StingBallGrenade.htm

This hand-held, hand-thrown grenade has an initial 1-second delay fuse, after which the fuse assembly is discharged at low speed away from the main charge. After an additional 1-second delay, the main charge detonates. This produces a loud sound, a bright flash of light, and the distribution of approximately 180 rubber pellets of .32 caliber size. Pellets travel up to 50 feet from the point of detonation. [snip]

After detonation, the rubber pellets rapidly lose velocity. Individuals struck by the pellets at long range are unlikely to notice anything or suffer any injury. Within 50 feet of the detonation, however, individuals usually notice an intense stinging at the site of impact. Because of the relatively low velocity and the character of the projectile (rubber), penetration beneath the skin is not usually expected. For those close to the site of detonation, however, penetration of the pellets beneath the skin is common.

Superficial penetration is treated by removal of the pellet, debridement of any dead tissue (rarely needed), thorough cleansing of the wound tract with large amounts of sterile saline, Ringer's lactate, or even plain water. Make sure to remove any foreign material (clothing threads, dirt). Then apply a loose gauze, and allow the wound to close spontaneously. Skin edges should not be primarily sutured. Administer tetanus prophylaxis. Deep penetration is treated just like any other low to moderate velocity penetrating wound from a foreign body.

Any pellet injury to the eye can be very serious and vision-threatening. If the operational setting allows, immobilize the eye (patching or eye cup) and arrange for transportation to a definitive care setting.

Do you really think people protesting right now have forgotten about it?

Almost every face everywhere is covered with a mask, people are carrying and using sanitizer. The fact that they are protesting in the face of a pandemic should tell you that your fellow countrymen and women feel strongly enough about racial injustice that they would risk death to make their point.

They don't need you worrying about them because of coronavirus. They have weighed that danger for themselves.

The military is out there with bayonets and bullets. I don't hear you worrying on their behalf because of that danger.

eta - you know, I just popped off at you, and I don't mean to take your head off. I do see your point. There are some gatherings that are so close together it makes me uneasy. I do worry about people getting sick. I also admire them for the choice they've made to stand up and make a difference.

I truly believe our country is hanging in the balance and I am grateful the them for that.

I'd join a peaceful daytime, moving, not so closely gathered protest if I could--but I live in the middle of nowhere and there are no protests here. I can certainly understand why others would disagree.
