La Lioness Priyanka
La Lioness Priyanka's JournalI have a lot of empathy and sympathy for working class voters who voted for HRC
in large numbers, of all colors and genders and religions.
I, especially feel terrible for these people who are in red states, and will be hideously affected by a trump presidency.
I have oodles of sympathy that their social security net will be removed, their healthcare may disappear, their job may disappear, and that their air and water will get poisoned.
My loyalties, my feelings, my love and my empathy lies with these people. Good people who stood up against bigotry and economic injustice and social injustice, who will suffer needlessly.
I do not waste my feelings on bigots. I do not waste it on people who did this to themselves.
I want more articles written about these folks.
Do you think if HRC had just focused more on economic justice and not on social justice
Russia would not have intervened in this election?
Comey would not have sent out that letter on Friday before elections cutting her lead from 7 points to 2-3 points?
Just asking for a friend.
Samantha Bee: identity politics is the dismissive term for what we used to call civil rights
http://www.vox.com/2016/12/13/13936226/samantha-bee-identity-politics-democratsIdentity politics is the dismissive term for what we used to call civil rights and equality, Bee said on her December 12 show. Also, she made sure to add, white and male is an identity, as is being Christian the two fronts Steve Doocys Fox News roundtable and other like-minded media outlets feel are most under attack.
Basically, as Voxs Matt Yglesias put it: There is no other way to do politics than to do identity politics.
Whats more, Bee said, standing up for civil rights can, and did, win Democrats elections. You know what happens when Democrats stand up for transgender rights? They win, she said, pointing to North Carolinas gubernatorial race, which was recently called for Democrat Roy Cooper over Republican incumbent Pat McCrory, a staunch supporter of the states discriminatory anti-LGBTQ laws.
Also, why i will never trust any Democrat or Du'er who is dismissive about 'identity politics' aka 'social justice issues' etc.
The Dangerous Myth That Hillary Clinton Ignored the Working Class
https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2016/12/hillary-clinton-working-class/509477/
The more frightening possibility for liberals is that Clinton didnt lose because the white working class failed to hear her message, but precisely because they did hear it.
Trumps white voters do support the mommy state, but only so long as its mothering them. Most of them dont seem eager to change Medicare or Social Security, but theyre fine with repealing Obamacare and its more diverse pool of 20 million insured people. Theyre happy for the government to pick winners and losers, so long as beleaguered coal and manufacturing companies are in the winners circle. Massive deficit-financed spending on infrastructure? Under Obama, that was dangerous government overreach, but under Trump, its a jobs plan by a guy they know wont let Muslims and Mexicans cut in line to get work renovating highways and airports.....
..
After the election, some people called for an end to identity politics that promotes niche cultural issues over economic policy. But any reasonable working-class platform requires the advancement of policies that may disproportionately help non-whites. For example, hundreds of thousands of black men stay out of the labor force after being released from prison sentences for non-violent crimes. For them and their families, criminal justice reform is essential economic reform, even if poor whites see it as a distraction from that real issues that bedevil the working class, like trade policy.
There are many norms that got broken this election cycle, that ultimately lead to an EC loss
and I don't think we should normalize these things. Part of us running around like headless chickens trying to fix the democratic party, is normalizing many things that went wrong this election, and not having a plan for them in future elections
1. How do we hold the FBI accountable for interfering in the Democratic process?
-- Comey should not have editorialized when he chose not to indict. That was breaking a norm
-- He shouldn't have sent a vaguely worded letter to congress a few days before the election. That was breaking a norm
2. How to we ensure foreign governments do not interfere in our elections?
--Russian hacked the DNC and Podesta's emails. That's breaking a norm. It ended up with a complete asymmetry in transparency between both candidates.
3. How do we ensure both parties candidates release tax returns before an election? DJT did not. That was breaking a norm since Nixon.
4. How do we ensure the media covers both D and R candidates as though both could be president? The media covered HRC as though she was PEOTUS already and therefore needed severe vetting, whereas they covered DJT as a celebrity who occasionally did eccentric things. This is especially true of TV media, less true of print media.
That's breaking a norm.
5. The proliferation of fake news and fake news websites by both conservative propagandists and random foreigners. Even some Democrats started citing from these propaganda cites to claim that the primaries had been stolen. Not to mention how many said absurd things like paid protesters, Hillary killed enemies etc.
That's breaking a norm.
Clinton won majorities among voters in the rust belt who said the economy was their PRIMARY issue
So much for us not having an economic message.
Check it for yourself.

Now, tell me again she didn't have an economic message.
On World AIDS day, a reminder that HRC had a plan to usher in an AIDS free genereration
whereas Mike Pence enabled an HIV outbreak in his state spurred by public health cuts and his stance against needle exchange. People who try to tell you that Democrats and Republicans are just the same, it does not matter who is in power, are lying.
No, they are not just exaggerating or mildly distorting the truth. They are lying.

With the exception of a brief detour into Indiana Gov. Mike Pences (R) anti-abortion beliefs during the vice presidential debate on Oct. 4, the night centered around foreign policy, not public health.
Its a shame, since lackluster public health efforts are what led to the defining moment of Pences one-term Indiana governorship: a massive HIV outbreak spurred by public health funding cuts and Pences moralistic stance against needle exchanges.
A timeline of the HIV outbreak, the worst in state history, reads like a roadmap of what to do if you want to create a public health crisis.
Prior to the Civil Rights Act, Democrats used to have some of the most virulent racists
in their party. After the CRA passed, these racists slowly moved on.
When some white men start saying things like 'we need to ditch identity politics' the rest of us begin to wonder what Democratic party are you trying to build?
one whose motto is 'stronger together' or one that attracts the white working class while pushing every other working class person out of the door?
People need to think more carefully about the type of coalition they truly want and who they are willing to shove out for it.
1964 was not that long ago.
This was an election about identity politics: white identity politics
to see so many supposed liberal white men then turn around and state that identity politics do not win elections, is really laughable.
They do win election. In fact just did win an election.
I suspect a lot of these 'no more identity politics' people, are just against the rest of our identities taking center stage or having equal voice.
The incredibly invisibility of WOC over 30 & also why I wish Trump wasn’t imploding
There are several reasons that this election has been incredibly frustrating as a woman of color over 30. I was listening to the 538 podcast where one of the hosts (Harry Enten, maybe?) asked why we dont hear as much about HRC supporters. Here is the simple answer, women of color over 30 dont matter and maybe all older women dont matter, and we have been her most enthusiastic supporters. So this entire election has been about Trump voters and Bernie voters, even though Hillary has way more voters. This was already frustrating and is about to be more frustrating as Trump implodes.
You would think a hard core supporter like me, would love this Trump implosion but I am actually really upset about it. Apparently, so is the Brooklyn team if NPR is right. One, his most recent comments about women are disgusting, and generally brings down the whole national conversation. It compels the people who are voting for him to support these comments, and try to normalize this behavior. It reinforces the incredibly misogyny in society. And mostly, I hate it because it will allow the media and the pundits to discount us again. I can almost see the narrative that Hillary didnt win, her voters dont really like her, they are not enthusiastic about her, they only voted for her because Trump is a disaster. This will be the narrative post-November.
I think Hillary could have defeated any one of those GOP assholes running for president. It sucks that she got such a shitty opponent. It sucks because it gives a whole narrative to the media that continues to discount female leaders.
Hillary Clinton, is the most qualified person to run for this office and her historic victory will not be about her. It will not be about her supporters. It will be about a man, a disgusting gross man and his deplorable supporters. And this is just incredibly frustrating.
