Many many years ago one of the early criticisms of Sesame Street by those in early childhood education and development was that although the content of the program was excellent, it conditioned children to have relatively short attention spans. Trump and his fascist-studying minions have perfected the art of altering the landscape every forty-five minutes it seems and have overwhelmed the system with multiple scandals and what would normally have been interpreted as missteps which would have invariably proved fatal to candidates even four years ago. It is a form of Gish Gallop in extremis and although Trump has probably lost this election, it will be a tactic which will be utilized in the future by these strategists who represent what would have been otherwise unelectable candidates in the past.
The people cannot manage this: it is cognitive overload, something we endure during disasters involving the loss of many lives, or even how we view a serial killer who has committed so many heinous acts that his celebrity status eclipses the individual horror of his deeds. The RWers have been fine-tuning this tactic for years and we are witnessing the rollout and sacrifice of their boy Trump, all the while refining the technique for further use in the future and for political races which do not have the shrewd operators on the other side to blunt the attacks,
I believe we have entered a new phase of Orwellian Manipulation. One of which Orwell himself may not have been able to conceive.

like Iran-contra, Like the JFK assassination, Like the RFK assassination, this Trumpian Nightmare could not be scripted by anyone in Hollywood or the various writing colonies in the USA.

This is more tension-filled than Watergate was...
those of us who were around in those days recall the drip drip drip and then the sudden WHAM!!! of the big disclosure whether it was the existence of the taping system or the Saturday night Massacre or the trip over to the WH by Goldwater, Scott, and one or two other Senators to tell Nixon he was done.
But this...THIS! is beyond all that...this miscreant lowlife who was blowing little people out of the water with his threats, bravado and bluster finally entered the big leagues and as with everyone who gets involved at that level, he has found out that he is quite vulnerable and going down like the Titanic or the Lusitania.
What I don't get is how the Republicans didn't go after him: I'm certain their oppo research knew all this stuff and they gave him an almost-free pass. Bush, Cruz, Kasich, Pataki, are all old pros and should have stopped this guy in his tracks. But the media was allowed to give him a free ride, and with his 100% name recognition and his penchant for lying through his teeth and his insults, he bullied his way to the top, just to find, as though he were the lead character in a Shakespeare play, that he has far to fall. And quickly at that.
I think that the powers that be decided enough is enough and went after him full-bore. I'm certain we haven't seen the end of this play whose ending may take place in the Castle Keep with an angry soliloquy playing at the end of this four-year drama.
