The Iraq War

I find it ironic that almost all American's cannot articulate why we invaded Iraq in the first place.

smoking guns = mushroom clouds
WMD'S
Nerve Gas
Liberating Iraqi's from their evil Dictator
fight 'em over there so we don't have to fight 'em over here.
hunt down the bastards behind 9-11 and avenge

Suppose we gave a war and nobody knew why we did it - well, that's pretty much the case with Iraq.

Vanity Wars - every Prezdent gets to have one!

PS - I am included in the above mentioned group "almost all Americans". My guess is the war had something to do with the interests of Big Oil?

Mathews quote from the 2002 war selling era

"WE ARE ALL NEOCONS NOW"

I don't think the landscsape of news coverage on cable has changed that much since 2002.

I also think that more and more people that don't want to be ill informed or LOW INFORMATION VOTERS are turning to the internet for their news, because they know that all of American Main Stream Media that comes through the TV machine is fascist corporate propaganda. It's bullshit manufactured by the sociopaths that have captured all our institutions.

The most galling recent item in modern MSM is the selling of per-emptive war against Iran so as to keep them from getting the bomb.

Americans will enjoy TEN TIMES the casualty rate of Iraq and Afghanistan and the reinstatement of the draft if that future fiasco gets sold. We'll get to repeat the failure lessons of Viet Nam for the second fucking time in my lifetime! 58,000 on the Wall. We can beat that this time!

I like Penn

Pretty freaking eccentric in a lot of areas, but I like his thinking and I agree with his point. We should not be so medieval on victimless crimes. Jail is hell. Amazing how many lives we casually ruin for outright stupidity and meanness.

I am mighty pissed at his DOJ policy on medical marijuana and decriminalizing. So much needless misery. Our whole drug war is starting to be seriously questioned by those countries it directly affects. The ex-Pres of Mexico is very vocal now about how stupid the American Drug War is, and why do you have to wreck my country to satisfy the appetite for drugs in your country?

Mexico has lost 50,000 in this drug war. That's as many Americans as we lost in Viet Nam. So, gee, the American drug war is Mexico's Viet Nam?

Does that make us bad?

America

The fucking country that made me pledge allegiance to them every fucking morning in public school practiced torture in the 21st Century!

http://emptywheel.firedoglake.com/2009/04/18/khalid-sheikh-mohammed-was-waterboarded-183-times-in-one-month/I

"I’ve put this detail in a series of posts, but it really deserves a full post. According to the May 30, 2005 Bradbury memo, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was waterboarded 183 times in March 2003 and Abu Zubaydah was waterboarded 83 times in August 2002. "

183 times in a fucking month. did he confess only one letter per torture session until a full sentence could be constructed out of 183 tries?

Trust me, there will be more American torture in the future, now that the traitors that made this policy are not accountable for their acts of treason and war crimes!

It's fuzzy in my mind, but I was flipping channels during a Rachel commercial break and saw some CIA guy on Hannity talking about his new book about how good it was he got to torture this guy and get all the wonderful life saving intelligence.

Torture is always wrong and against every principle this country professes to believe in. Not to mention it only produces low quality bogus info. From the minds of the mean and stupid ignorant pricks that was the GW Bush Administration.

Simply infuriating!

"These military guys are my blood brothers"

Is that the thought that got Ted through his month long shit and piss in your pants tactic to dodge the draft when he was called to serve his country back in the sixties?

Nice that some of these right wing chicken hawks are so fucking compassionate about their country decades after they forfeited the right to risk their lives to serve it, huh?

The guitar solo from the Amboy Dukes Journey to the Center of the Mind is still one of the best of that era, in my opinion.

For the record - the draft ended in 1972, the year I was eligible. My parents would have helped me move to Canada had I been called. I would have lost my mind as much as the American state tortured Jose Padilla if I had served. I am simply too timid, fearful and gentle to emotionally cope with military life.

One more thing

GW made it abundantly clear he did not give a rat's ass about hunting down and bringing Bin Laden to justice. Think of how much better the first decade of the 21st Century would have been if GW had felt the same way about Saddam Hussein!

4,500 families of dead American soldiers would still have their loved ones.

On the bright side, I think GW did manage to acquire Saddam's personal side arm? So I guess it was worth it after all!

Rummy and 9-11

This is from memory. Fact checks are welcome.

Days prior to 9-11 there was an issue percolating at the Pentagon about the inability to account for a missing ONE TRILLION DOLLARS. (Still considered a large sum of money even today)

Well, after Don heroically helped save many of the Pentagon victims on 9-11, he spoke to Congress in the evening about the urgency of getting his Pentagon Budget Bill passed, because of this hours old war on terror. "C'mon guys, stop dilly-dalleying with our national security and give us canyons full of money to protect America!" And the missing trillion was forgotten to history forever.

Or something close to that.

The gall of these people! Especially when Cheney implied that Richard Clarke was personally responsible for the intelligence failure of 9-11. "He sure missed that one, didn't he?" I think Cheney said. Clarke was running around with his hair on fire begging his boss (or superior in his chain of command?) Condi Rice to start paying attention to the al-Qaeda threat since the day GW was sworn in!

Hypocrites with no shame. Sociopaths don't have much capacity for shame, do they?

Rummy's place in history as the worst Secretary of Defense, since the position was created, is secure. Very secure. A fitting place next to the worst President and VP and Secretary of State and National Security Advisor (twofer for Condi there!) in American History. He is simply a monster. I hope he endorses Romney! Lavishly!

About 90-percent

Gee - my profile info didn't migrate from the old DU I guess? The main thing - 90% refers to the maximum allowable percentage of nitromethane fuel permitted in modern NHRA Top Fuel and Funny cars. Which is what makes current "nostalgia nitro" so cool - you can still "tip the can" and run straight nitro, if you want to. I'm an aging northeast liberal with an overdeveloped justice gland.
