You know, sometimes I think about how incredible it would be if we the normal people had as much singular authority as republicans want Trump to have.
Think of how many rights to love whomever you want we could enshrine. Or bodily autonomy. How we could dismantle institutions designed to stifle progress like the electoral college and create a democracy where you don't get 40x the vote if you live in Nebraska vs California. How we could bring the Supreme Court in line with the rest of the western world with more Justices who are held to account if they overreach.
How many resolutions we could pass to protect the environment and make serious progress towards a new generation of green economic growth. How we could restore the progressive taxes of our past, and ensure that those benefitting the most from society also contribute the most. How many protections we could put in place for our scientific experts to be able to act with independence and autonomy, and ensure that public research benefits the public first and foremost.
All of these things have overwhelming public support, but cannot and will never be passed by institutions designed to benefit the interests of the wealthy and reactionary. So I say, let's embrace getting things done and bypassing institutions that are not and have never been democratic so that we can finally make them so.
The public support for this, in poll after poll, is tremendous. The people are crying out for change. Let's give it to them.

I must re-read and absorb this cogent assessment of America's current state of public affairs. Really hits home about how far we've been driven off course from the ideals of what America could be. decades of greed and corruption has killed the golden goose of what we could have been.

I've been a Keith fan since his first MSNBC show in the early 2000's. His insight into modern mass media is profound. Keith is a NATIONAL TREASURE. Plus, he guested a lot of comedians. my great grandfather james bates was one of the first police chiefs in harvey at the turn of the 20th century. used to visit grandmother and great aunt on annual family vacation in the sixties. long island to harvey, long drive for a ten year old. house my grandfather built is across the street from the library on turlington avenue. he got two pages in the 1962 harvey centennial history book.

i heard one guy make that case that "nazi" is short for "national socialism", therefore any progressive liberal democratic socialist is comparable to Hitler, Goebbels, Goring (my favorite nazi) Himmler, and Josef Mengele, to name but a few.
