Both sources independently said they intended to gently implore Trump to take a different approach. One of the sources said they had already told Trump in recent days that making statue fetishization a cornerstone of the re-election pitch amounted to a distraction that wouldnt help move the necessary votes into the presidents column by the election in November.
Said one: The question now is: Is the statue shit going to work?

Over the holiday weekend, Trump largely ignored the pandemic and instead sought to exploit national divisions to boost his struggling candidacy.

As the New York Times put it, Trump used the 4th of July weekend "to mount a full-on culture war against a straw-man version of the left that he portrayed as inciting mayhem and moving the country toward totalitarianism."
That assessment wasn't hyperbolic in the slightest. "Our nation is witnessing a merciless campaign to wipe out our history, defame our heroes, erase our values and indoctrinate our children," the president declared. "Angry mobs are trying to tear down statues of our founders, deface our most sacred memorials and unleash a wave of violent crime in our cities."
As part of the same tirade, Trump added, "One of their political weapons is 'Cancel Culture' -- driving people from their jobs, shaming dissenters, and demanding total submission from anyone who disagrees. This is the very definition of totalitarianism."
Happy Independence Day, one and all. What used to be a non-partisan day of celebration has become the latest arrow in Trump's quiver.
The broader political context was far from subtle: against a backdrop of a public-health crisis he has no idea how to address, the president largely ignored the deadly pandemic ravaging his own country and instead sought to exploit national divisions to boost his struggling candidacy.

Fox & Friends Promotes Kanye West's Presidential Bid: 'The Unifying Force Weve All Been Waiting For'

The hosts of Fox & Friends argued on Sunday that Kanye West could unite the country by running for president in 2020.
During a segment on the Fox News morning show, host Jedidiah Bila noted that West had recently hinted on Twitter that he may be a candidate in 2020.
"Now, one person who has been talked about a lot about potentially being able to bring some unity is Kanye West," she continued. "That's right. Kanye West might be running for president."
"Could Kanye be the unifying force that we have all be waiting for?" Bila wondered.
"That is the question that I woke up, of course, thinking this morning," co-host Todd Piro replied. "Who knows what this means for the upcoming election."

The latest prominent Republican anti-Trump organization made its debut in early July. Its a Super Pac called 43 Alumni for Biden, and aims to rally alumni of George W Bushs administration to support the Democrat.
The new Super Pac was co-founded by Kristopher Purcell, a former Bush administration official; John Farner, who worked in the commerce department during the Bush administration; and Karen Kirksey, another longtime Republican operative. Kirksey is the Super Pacs director.
Were truly a grassroots organization. Our goal is to do whatever we can to elect Joe Biden as president, said Farner.
The Super Pac is still in its early stages and isnt setting expectations on raising something like $20m. Rather, 43 Alumni for Biden is just focused on organizing.

Kansas newspaper's post equates mask mandate with Holocaust

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) A weekly Kansas newspaper whose publisher is a county Republican Party chairman posted a cartoon on its Facebook page likening the Democratic governor's order requiring people to wear masks in public to the roundup and murder of millions of Jews during the Holocaust.
The cartoon on the Anderson County Review's Facebook page depicts Gov. Laura Kelly wearing a mask with a Jewish Star of David on it, next to a drawing of people being loaded onto train cars. Its caption is, Lockdown Laura says: Put on your mask ... and step onto the cattle car.
The newspaper posted the cartoon on Friday, the day that Kelly's mask order aimed at stemming the spread of the coronavirus took effect. It's drawn several hundred comments, many of them strongly critical.
Publisher Dane Hicks, who is also Anderson County's GOP chairman, told The Associated Press on Saturday that he would answer emailed questions about the cartoon once he could reach a computer. His newspaper is based in the county seat of Garnett, about 65 miles (105 kilometers) southwest of Kansas City and has a circulation of about 2,100, according to the Kansas Press Association.

Maya Wiley, de Blasio's former top counsel, considering 2021 mayoral run
News to me!
Maya Wiley, de Blasios former top counsel, considering 2021 mayoral run
By Carl Campanile and Mark Moore
July 1, 2020 | 5:07pm | Updated
Maya Wiley, the former top counsel to Mayor Bill de Blasio and the one-time head of the citys police oversight panel, is considering a run for mayor in 2021.
Its very real, it is serious. Shes received a lot of calls and encouragement to run, a Democratic source close to Wiley told The Post on Wednesday.
Wiley left the mayors office in June 2016 to lead the Civilian Complaint Review Board, which investigates complaints against the NYPD, and to become the senior vice president for social justice at the New School.
She stepped down from the CCRB about a year later, saying she wanted to focus her attention on her job at the New School, where she is also a professor of urban policy and management.

Al Sharpton: GOPs Shotgun Wedding To Fat Elvis Trump To End Soon
Al Sharpton had some hilarious analogies to explain why Republican senators will almost certainly be running away from Fat Elvis Donald Trump before long.

Al Sharpton visited Deadline: White House Friday to discuss this hugely damning article in The New York Times.
Sharpton described Trump as a pathetic has-been, using images we can all appreciate. He started by saying that whatever Trump has planned behind a curtain to save his campaign will only expose his failings even more. It got better from there. Be sure to check out A.B. Stoddard's reactions!
And I think that the problem that he has is that with the pandemic, which he could have handled better, the whole question of racism and his answer to that, to defend the statues of Confederates who not only were racist and slaveholders and slaveholder defenders, but were committing treason against the United States.
For all of the crises he's faced, it has unglued what has been -- let's be clear - this was never a marriage of love between him and the Republican senators. It was a shotgun wedding. And when you have a shotgun wedding, any time you can find your way out of the house to get back home to mother, you will. And that's what they are going to do.
They were never in love with him. They had the shotgun primaries ... They did not want to have primaries with him endorsing their opponent and him running around the country like Elvis.
Well, it used to be earlier this year, Nicolle, Elvis had left the building and the crowd is roaring. This time there's nobody showing up to see Elvis. The arena is empty, the show is over, Elvis is fat, and there's no Colonel Parker.
But after nearly four years of jaw-dropping sycophancy, I am skeptical that a Republican about-face will go over well.
Swalwell: Trump 'makes us look like geniuses every day for impeaching him'
Swalwell: Trump 'makes us look like geniuses every day for impeaching him'
By Brooke Seipel - 07/03/20 05:32 PM EDT
Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) said in a new interview he thinks President Trump makes him and other House Democrats "look like geniuses" for impeaching him, especially in light of reports that Russians offered bounties to Taliban-linked fighters to target U.S. troops in Afghanistan.
I think he makes us look like geniuses every day for impeaching him, Swalwell told the Yahoo News Skullduggery podcast in a new episode this week.
Swalwell was a key player during the House impeachment inquiry as a member of the Intelligence Committee and helped organize the articles of impeachment against President Trump. Ultimately, the Senate acquitted Trump on two impeachment charges surrounding his dealings with Ukraine, ending the historic, months-long battle over the presidents fitness to remain in office.
