Millions To Lose Medicaid Coverage Under Congress' Plan
Millions of people who enrolled in Medicaid during the COVID-19 pandemic could start to lose their insurance plans by April 1.

WASHINGTON (AP) Millions of people who enrolled in Medicaid during the COVID-19 pandemic could start to lose their coverage on April 1 if Congress passes the $1.7 trillion spending package leaders unveiled Tuesday.
The legislation will sunset a requirement of the COVID-19 public health emergency that prohibited states from booting people off Medicaid. The Biden administration has been under mounting pressure to declare the public health emergency over, with 25 Republican governors asking the president to end it in a letter on Monday, which cited growing concerns about bloated Medicaid enrollment.
Millions are expected to be bumped from the program, which grants health care coverage to nearly 80 million low-income people throughout the country. The federal government will also wind down extra funds given to states for the added enrollees over the next year under the proposal.

As the Bidens mark Hanukkah, the White House gets its own menorah for the first time
As the Bidens mark Hanukkah, the White House gets its own menorah for the first time
December 19, 202211:50 AM ET
Rachel Treisman
This year, to celebrate the ancient Jewish festival of lights, the White House added a menorah to its holiday lineup for the first time.
The nine-pronged candelabra was created by the Executive Residence Carpentry Shop out of wood removed from the building in 1950 during a Truman-era renovation, the White House says.
It now sits in Cross Hall, between portraits of former presidents Jimmy Carter and Lyndon Johnson, as part of this year's "We The People"-themed holiday display. The White House welcomes roughly 50,000 visitors each holiday season, in addition to offering virtual tours of the decorations.
President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden are set to add the menorah to the permanent White House collection at a Hanukkah reception Monday evening, which will mark the first time a Jewish artifact is added to the White House archives, according to the White House.

Joe Kennedy III, the 42-year-old scion of one of Americas most famous political families, has agreed to serve as the special envoy to Northern Ireland for economic affairs, the US state department announced on Monday.

His role builds on the longstanding US commitment to supporting peace, prosperity, and stability in Northern Ireland.
Kennedys appointment comes at a moment of elevated tensions between Washington and London over the implementation of the Northern Ireland protocol that dictates post-Brexit trade regulations in the UK province, and it comes ahead of the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday agreement next year which aimed to end nearly 30 years of political violence in Northern Ireland known as The Troubles.
Kennedy called his appointment an incredible honor and said he looked forward to helping the Joe Biden White House reaffirm US commitment to Northern Ireland and to promote economic prosperity and opportunity for all its people.

Mike Pence Doesn't Want The DOJ To Ruin Trump's Christmas
I think I might be a bit miffed if someone sicced a bloodthirsty crowd on me.Mike Pence Doesn't Want The DOJ To Ruin Trump's Christmas
At this time of year, were all thinking about the most important things in our lives: our faith, our family, the former vice president said, hoping the DOJ think very carefully before proceeding.

Former Vice President Mike Pence doesnt think Donald Trump should be indicted for his Jan. 6 activities, and he seems to be basing his reasoning, in part, on bad Christmas movie scripts and not on actual legal theory.
The House committee investigating the insurrection is making its final public presentation Monday about Trumps unprecedented effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
But Pence told Fox News on Monday that he hopes the Justice Department doesnt indict his former boss for his role inciting the Capitol Hill riot because of what he claims is a partisan taint.
Congress has no formal role in Justice Department decisions, so they can make recommendations today, Pence said. But when it comes to the Justice Departments decision about bringing charges in the future, I would hope that they would not bring charges against the former president.

Cannabis Reform Dead In Congress After Objections From Republicans
Cannabis Reform Dead In Congress After Objections From Republicans
Lawmakers couldnt even agree to approve a modest bill allowing cannabis businesses access to banking.

Congress wont include any cannabis provisions in its year-end spending package, dooming the chances of an overhaul of marijuana laws for the foreseeable future.
Not only will Congress fail to legalize marijuana this year, lawmakers couldnt even agree to include a modest anti-crime cannabis reform as part of a $1.7 trillion government funding bill set to pass this week.
Reformers had hoped lawmakers would include a bipartisan measure allowing cannabis companies to open bank accounts. Currently, even if a business operates in a state with legal weed, most banks wont take the firms deposits because marijuana remains illegal under federal law.
As a result, most cannabis firms are forced to operate on a cash-only basis, making them easy targets for criminals.
Several top Republican senators, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and John Cornyn (R-Texas), opposed the banking provision.

GOP Disaster As Just 5% Of Americans Want Biden Investigation
https://www.politicususa.com/2022/12/19/poll-biden-investigations.htmlPosted on Mon, Dec 19th, 2022 by Jason Easley
GOP Disaster As Just 5% Of Americans Want Biden Investigation
A recent poll from Suffolk University revealed that just 5% of Americans want House Republicans to investigate the Biden administration.
According to the Suffolk University Poll on 2023 national issues, investigating the Biden administration ranks seventh on the list of national priorities with only 5% support.
If House Republicans try to make an issue out of investigating Biden, they will be quickly seen through by the vast majority of Americans as the same poll also found that 51% of respondents said that any investigations into Biden are a political effort to embarrass the Biden administration, and 38% expressed the belief that the investigations are an appropriate way to hold Biden accountable.
Thirty-eight percent is a key number in US public opinion polling because it represents the top end of Republican support. Typically the Republican view comes in at 35%-38% in polls.
The fact that just 38%feel that Biden investigations are appropriate suggests that the support is almost all in the Republican Party.
House Republicans are unlikely to be able to pass any serious or meaningful legislation with their four-seat majority. They are counting on keeping the base happy with investigations into Biden, but the nation as a whole sees investigating as a low priority, so every minute that Jim Jordan and his Republican colleagues spend investigating Biden will contribute to their failure and downfall.

They Must Be Held Accountable: Former House Members Urge Ethics Investigations for Current Representatives Involved In Jan. 6 Riot
A group of 36 former lawmakers sent an open letter ahead of next week's committee vote on possible criminal charges against Donald Trump.
By Kelly Rissman
December 17, 2022
Nearly 40 former members of the House of Representatives wrote a letter to their current colleagues requesting ethics investigations for members who played a role in the events leading up to and on January 6th.
Signed by 36 former U.S. Representatives, Democrats and Republicans alike, the letter was posted on Medium on Saturday. Signatories spanned generations, including some who served in Congress starting in 1973, like Rep. Alan Steelman (R-Texas), as well as those who retired as recently as 2017, like Rep. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Scott Rigell (R-Va.).
The letter was released days before the January 6 committee is expected to vote on at least three criminal referrals against former President Donald Trump on Monday. As indicated by committee member Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) last week, the House panel could also vote on referrals to the House Ethics Committee regarding five Republican lawmakersHouse Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) Scott Perry, Andy Biggs and Mo Brookswho ignored the panels subpoenas.

Image was among the possessions the Posner family fled Kiel with and now returns to the city as part of an exhibition
When she used her compact camera to capture the view from her window in the German city of Kiel one December afternoon in 1931, Rosi Posner was doing more than just taking a snapshot. In the foreground is a brass menorah, the candlestick used to mark the Jewish festival of Hanukah; in the near background, the chilling image of a swastika flag flying prominently from the Nazi headquarters that had opened up opposite her flat earlier that year.
More than 90 years after Rosi clicked the shutter in an act of bravery and defiance at a time when Germanys Jews were being subjected to increasing hostility the menorah she included in the now iconic image is returning to Germany. It will be lit in Berlin at sundown on Monday, the second day of Hanukah, in the presence of German president Frank-Walter Steinmeier and the grandchildren of Rosi and her husband, Arthur, the last rabbi before the Holocaust of the north German city of Kiel.
The menorah was among the few possessions the Posners took with them when they fled Germany with their three children in June 1933. The postcard-sized photograph was also in a photo album they had packed, along with the camera.

Imagine a former U.S. president who, after being summarily tossed out of office by the electorate, incited a pre-planned, all-out assault on the U.S. Capitol in an effort to overturn the election that removed him -- an assault which resulted in multiple deaths and millions in property damage -- and then doubled down on his rejection from office by enthusiastically propagating a lie that the election was fraudulently decided against him. And then, imagine him sending this message to his base of known violent supporters, after the legal walls began to crash in on him.
Its far long past time that this country stop treating this person as it has been treating him for the past two years as some sort of distressing anomaly or curiosity to be tolerated and managed, and instead treat him like any other person who makes calculated, violent threats against our justice system and the people who uphold it. Trump occupies a peculiar place in our history, one that should by any reasonable measure hold him to a higher standard of behavior. That is an implicit bargain that an elected official submits to willingly or not when he is placed in an office of public trust. The fact that Trump refuses to accept that precept doesnt negate it; rather, it makes its enforcement all the more critical.
We have to stop coddling this guy or making excuses for him. We have to stop tolerating the excuses others make for him. Hes a menace, a clear and present danger, deliberately trying to be cute and clever by couching his terminology in a twisted and grotesque simulation of what he thinks will pass as patriotism. And wrapping himself in the cloak of what he thinks will pass muster as free speech.
But this isnt patriotic. Read it again in the context of someone who incited an insurrection against a lawful election, and keeping in mind the person who is saying this, his position, and his implicit (and explicit) duty and responsibility:
And please dont pretend that dealt with means anything less than what is obvious. This isnt a message of complaint or protest against government overreach or malfeasance, in the context of who is delivering it. It is a threat, from a former president and a now-declared candidate for the same office.
This is sedition, and its an evocation and exhortation to violence and terrorism to achieve that.
Garland and Smith, please. Do. Your. Jobs.
Ronny Jackson Receives Brutal Fact-Check Over Lie About Katie Porter

Rep. Drunky McDrunkFace is doing it again. By it, we mean that he's a liar.
By Conover Kennard December 15, 2022
A lie started circulating quickly on social media about Rep. Katie Porter, claiming that the Democratic lawyer said pedophilia isn't a crime. Rep. Ronny Jackson tweeted that Porter is the "embodiment of evil." Porter was talking about people on social media (Trump supporters) labeling LGBTQ individuals as pedos and groomers because of their sexual orientation.
CNN's Daniel Dale took Rep. Drunky McDrunkFace to task for lying about what Porter said.
Daniel Dale (@ddale8) December 15, 2022
Libs of TikTok, a noxious woman who is highly transphobic and homophobic, did the same thing. Even some of her supporters called her out. And she inadvertently proved Porter's point.

John is right. That's precisely what she was doing. The TikTok lady knows that Trump supporters will believe a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g without doing even a little research. I have an account on Truth Social. I admit that I use it to annoy people because I'm obnoxious like that, but the second I opened that account, I was flooded with people calling me a groomer or a pedo. It happens every single day there.
So, it's not just the LGBTQ+ community. Trumpers have spread that lie to include anyone that doesn't agree with them -- because Democrats support gay rights. It's harmful and dangerous rhetoric. And it's kind of bizarre to see that the first thing Truth Social users do in the morning is to think about pedophilia. They should all have their browsing history checked, including the TikTok lady.
