I just don't get it. These entitled, spoiled idiots

Local FB groups loaded with people asking where St Patrick’s Day parties and drinking is going on.

Get. The. Fuck. Over. It.

Your life isn’t gonna end if you don’t get drunk on green beer. But you just might end the life (or at least livelihood) of someone else

My wife is an extrovert and she gets that staying home is the right thing to do.

Maybe this will be the thing to wake up these idiots in another month or two (but probably not)

"What they said on that phone call very clearly was cease and desist..Stop Testing"

‘It’s Just Everywhere Already’: How Delays in Testing Set Back the U.S. Coronavirus Response

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/10/us/coronavirus-testing-delays.html

The state laboratory, finally able to begin testing, confirmed the result the next morning. The teenager, who had recovered from his illness, was located and informed just after he entered his school building. He was sent home and the school was later closed as a precaution.

Later that day, the investigators and Seattle health officials gathered with representatives of the C.D.C. and the F.D.A. to discuss what happened. The message from the federal government was blunt. “What they said on that phone call very clearly was cease and desist to Helen Chu,” Dr. Lindquist remembered. “Stop testing.”

A silent spread
Still, the troubling finding reshaped how officials understood the outbreak. Seattle Flu Study scientists quickly sequenced the genome of the virus, finding a genetic variation also present in the country’s first coronavirus case.

The implications were unnerving. There was a good chance that the virus had been circulating silently in the community for around six weeks, infecting potentially hundreds of people.

I remember that article but don’t remember this part of it being discussed in the media

Are there any stories/articles from Italy on how they're faring shopping for food/supplies?

I know they’re not as geographically disperse and neighborhood markets are more prevalent vs the big box stores here that serve larger numbers of people.

But are they seeing issues with getting what’s needed under lockdown?

One Theme Park in Orlando refuses to close still. Guess who the owner supports??

Fun Spot remains open through coronavirus worries

KISSIMMEE, Fla. —
Though many amusement parks have closed down due to coronavirus concerns, Fun Spot in Kissimmee and on I-Drive are still welcoming guests.

The park's owner said Fun Spot is smaller than Disney and Universal, so the team of employees can handle disinfecting everything at the park.

Owner John Arie said the decision to stay open was for the more than 1,000 people who work at his parks.

"It was about giving them enough payroll and income that they can still put food on their table, keep the power on in their house, do everything they need to do just to survive," Arie said.

Coronavirus Australia: Queensland researchers find 'cure', want drug trial

https://amp.news.com.au/lifestyle/health/health-problems/coronavirus-australia-queensland-researchers-find-cure-want-drug-trial/news-story/93e7656da0cff4fc4d2c5e51706accb5
A team of Australian researchers say they’ve found a cure for the novel coronavirus and hope to have patients enrolled in a nationwide trial by the end of the month.
University of Queensland Centre for Clinical Research director Professor David Paterson told news.com.au today they have seen two drugs used to treat other conditions wipe out the virus in test tubes.

He said one of the medications, given to some of the first people to test positive for COVID-19 in Australia, had already resulted in “disappearance of the virus” and complete recovery from the infection.

Prof Paterson, who is also an infectious disease physician at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, said it wasn’t a stretch to label the drugs “a treatment or a cure”.

“It’s a potentially effective treatment,” he said.

Trump tells governors to seek out respirators and other vital equipment on their own.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/16/world/coronavirus-news.html
President Trump told a group of governors Monday morning that they should not wait for the federal government to fill the growing demand for respirators needed to help people diagnosed with coronavirus.

“Respirators, ventilators, all of the equipment — try getting it yourselves,” Mr. Trump told the governors during the conference call, a recording of which was shared with The New York Times.

“We will be backing you, but try getting it yourselves. Point of sales, much better, much more direct if you can get it yourself.”

The suggestion surprised some of the governors, who have been scrambling to contain the outbreak and are increasingly looking to the federal government for help with equipment, personnel and financial aid.
