We know that Trump knew all about the hacked emails by the time he said this:

“Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 (Hillary Clinton) emails that are missing,” he said. “I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press. Let's see if that happens. That will be next.

I don’t understand how people think there’s still a question of *whether* there was collusion, as opposed to “how extensive was it?” The campaign got advance word that Russia had thousands of hacked (STOLEN) Dem emails, yet consistently feigned doubt publicly.

Howard Dean: "the 2016 NYT election coverage was a awful: a collective Judy Miller"

Its unacceptable that we don't learn from our history because we don't know it.

It’s embarrassing that our failure to demand accountability for the theft of the 2000 election and the crimes of the Iraq war laid the groundwork for everything we’re embarrassed about today. It’s unacceptable that we don’t learn from our history because we don’t know it.

For Trump & Trumpsters, Ignorance is Bliss

Dec '19: "Let him ramble, so he'll increase our Christmas rations."

Dec '15: "Let him ramble. He'll never win the Primary."

June '16: "Let him ramble. He'll never be elected."

Dec '16: "Let him ramble, so we'll see how he thinks."

June '17: "Let him ramble, so people will see how crazy he is."

Dec '17: "Let him ramble. We need access."

from august, but STILL relevant:

Brilliant New Yorker Cover: An omen for 2018. Happy New Year everybody!

If he just wants to spout off without challenge-He has Fox News for that, not the NYT.

This is how we got Judy Miller.
Judy Miller is how we got the Iraq War.
This batch of NYT journos on Trump will give us a *nuclear* war.

Trump is dictating the means of engagement with the media to a point where the interview loses meaning. Perhaps that's the goal. Just once, I want to see him interviewed like he's expected to know everything a @POTUS should know, and reporters don't dance around his insecurities.

WTF RUBIO: "I thought we probably went too far on (helping) corporations."

Q: You voted for the tax bill after winning a key concession on the Child Tax Credit. Your view of the overall bill the president just signed into law?

A: If I were king for a day, this tax bill would have looked different. I thought we probably went too far on (helping) corporations. By and large, you’re going to see a lot of these multinationals buy back shares to drive up the price. Some of them will be forced, because they’re sitting on historic levels of cash, to pay out dividends to shareholders. That isn’t going to create dramatic economic growth. (But) there’s a lot of things in the bill that I have supported for a long time (such as) doubling the Child Tax Credit. And it is better – significantly better – than the current code.

The Rest:

A damaged and dangerous president is feeling his power

by digby

......think about what he said there: "I have absolute right to do what I want to do with the Justice Department."

If the Republican party allows him to do it, he can do it. That's absolutely correct. The power lies with them. Everything depends upon their integrity, their willingness to defend the constitution and rein in a rogue president who becomes an authoritarian.

Do you feel confident about that?

He is an authoritarian thug. He believes he has total power. And as I pointed out above, he does --- as long as his unctuous sycophants in the GOP support him. Together, they actually do have total power. He can fire the entire top layer of the Justice Department until he finds a toady to do his bidding.

His off-the-cuff comments indicate that he is completely capable of doing such a thing because he's a deranged, delusional egomaniac who is completely unschooled in the constitution and has no respect for its underlying principles anyway.

This next year is going to be a big test. He has not found humility in the office. He is more grandiose than ever and he's feeling his oats. If the Democrats can hold him back for a year, we might be able to stop him with a congressional check on his power in 2019. But that hope is all we have. The Republicans have shown they are not going to stop him.

Fasten your seat belts. 2018 is going to be a very tumultuous year, a make or break year. I'll be here documenting what's going on and I'll try to keep my head, but it won't be easy. This isn't normal, people. It's the biggest test of our system since 1860.
