early on election night, I did too

Miami-Dade county, which is LOADED with Democrats, was disappointing in turnout, as was Osceola county. I forget which other counties were disappointing. It all comes down, ultimately, to turnout. You can spend $100 billion on a campaign and have the best candidate since FDR, but if the freaking voters don't vote.... you lose.

My governor is Rick Rat Bastard Criminal Scott. Don't tell me I deserve to suffer....

I DIDN'T VOTE FOR THE ASSHOLE, and neither did other Democrats and some independents and maybe some Republicans(?).

If you disagree with me, I have no words. Fuck that concept of ALL of us suffering. The Scott voters can all go move to some freaking island called Floridasomalia.

I feel your pain, Red-governor states' Democrats.

Landmark Loving (v. Virginia) Supreme Court Case to be made into a film

http://www.ew.com/article/2015/05/08/loving-supreme-court-case-jeff-nichols

Mud director Jeff Nichols is turning to the highest court in the land for his next film, an indie drama about the ironically-named Loving v. Virginia civil-rights case, which in 1967 invalidated all bans on interracial marriage.

Australian actor Joel Edgerton (The Great Gatsby) will star as Richard Loving and British actress Ruth Negga (Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D) will play his wife, Mildred. The couple was arrested in their Virginia home in 1958 and sentenced to one year in the state penitentiary for the crime of marrying each other. He was white and she was black. The sentence was suspended so long as the Lovings moved out of Virginia, which they did in 1959, but continued to fight the Commonwealth of Virginia in the courts.

“I was struck by the simplicity of the Lovings’ story, and I hope to make this a painfully beautiful film,” said Nichols in a statement. He also wrote the screenplay, inspired by the 2011 HBO documentary, The Loving Story. Nancy Buirski, who directed the doc, is listed as a producer, along with several others, including Oscar-winning actor Colin Firth.

Nichols has a family drama with supernatural undertones called Midnight Special (starring Edgerton, Michael Shannon, and Adam Driver, among others) scheduled for release in the fall. No word yet on when Loving will be released, but you’ll be hearing about the case in the months to come. Loving v. Virginia has been constantly cited as a precedent in current arguments about the legal battle for same-sex marriage rights.

Subtropical Storm Ana Drifting in Atlantic Off US Coast

http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2015/05/08/us/ap-tropical-weather-ana.html?_r=0

MIAMI — The first named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season is meandering in the Atlantic off the U.S. southeastern coast Friday after forming nearly a month before the season officially begins.

Subtropical Storm Ana's maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph (75 kph) with slight strengthening forecast during the next day or so.

The storm is centered about 170 miles (275 kilometers) south-southeast of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The U.S. National Hurricane Center says it's been nearly stationary over the last few hours but is expected to move north-northwest later in the day.

A tropical storm watch is in effect for Edisto Beach, South Carolina, to Cape Lookout, North Carolina. The system is expected to deliver 2 to 4 inches of rain over eastern areas of the Carolinas over the weekend, and is already causing heavy surf and swells.

(video at link)

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Doctors are issuing a warning about swimming with open wounds after a man in Florida had to have his leg amputated because of a flesh-eating bacterial infection.

Zach Mody only had a minor cut on his toe when he went swimming off a Fort Myers beach in the Gulf of Mexico about a month ago. Now, he's in a hospital bed and is missing one leg.

"I would have never thought in a million years this would have happened to me," Mody told ABC affiliate WZVN-TV.

His symptoms started shortly after his visit to the beach.

hello

I really hope I can contribute here, and that this group is respected, on DU and on the wider internet.

Here goes: I have chronic depression, since age 6. On two meds for it. Father was Bipolar I. Mom had depression. I get it genetically.

There was an incident a while back of someone "raiding" this group to smear another DU'er, which I found really despicable. Hopefully that will never happen again. No, I'm not going to give out any links or hints. It's over now, in the ancient past. As you can tell, that incident stopped me from coming here for months and months.

Lurkers and freepers, you are lower than dog shit if you take the content in this group to ridicule people or smear people. That's a fact, not just my opinion.

At any rate, hello and thanks for welcoming me to this wonderful and MUCH needed group.

Steve
