He moved me to new tears, our President did. Careful. Mournful. Brilliant. He walked the line.

Unfortunately it's a perilous walk because of those who think him a threat to their guns. They are representative of precious freedom to some, fake though it is to me.
He needs to walk that line, rather than carry a big stick and slam it down, because there are so many out there with arsenals and attitude who could "go off" tomorrow.
Prevention means walking on eggshells and on tiptoes in this country armed to the teeth.

I believe the words about taking action are long in coming, and very welcome to the ears of the country's majority.
I believe action will follow.
I believe the groundswell of anti NRA sentiment has begun, and their power has lessened in the last few days.
I believe those who find the NRA so threatening are beginning to see the hollow legs of their strength.

I have a friend who just stopped by. A woman in with 4 children, 14/13/11/10
She said that she overheard her 13 yr old son saying that the kids in his school are taking knives from the kitchen along in their backpacks.
That she hated her 10 year old knew this and felt he was not safe in his school.
That she hated having to discuss these fears and try to diffuse them. That the children don't tell the parents about the defensive weapons they pack.
I bet this is a nation wide problem, especially after the beating of non stop coverage on all TV channels. It does not allow parents to be in control of what the children know and can handle, or how it is presented.

All these are the fine lines our President walked tonight.
I'm proud, and I'm watching. He has power, intelligent people at his side, and he has money. He has made a pledge of sorts, and I want to see some changes made immediately.

Feet to the fire.
It's burning.

Race for White House Wide Open After Hillary Leaves Office in 2024 - prediction by Andy Borowitz

Race for White House Wide Open After Hillary Leaves Office in 2024
Posted by Andy Borowitz

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—The race for the White House will most likely be “wide open” after Hillary Clinton serves her two terms as President, experts agree.
“What happens in 2024 is anyone’s guess—and if anyone tells you differently, they’re lying,” says political science professor Davis Logsdon of the University of Minnesota. “The only thing we can say with any certainty is that Hillary Clinton will be elected President by a landslide in 2016 and reëlected by an even bigger margin in 2020.”
Mr. Logsdon says that possible Republican Presidential candidates in 2024 could include Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, with this caveat: “If any of those men have the misfortune of running against Hillary in 2016 or 2020, she will defeat them so soundly that their political careers will be finished and they will vanish from public life forever.”
As for the future of the Democratic Party after Hillary’s two terms are over, Mr. Logsdon offers this prediction: “I can tell you right now that Hillary’s Presidency will be so successful that she will usher in a Democratic dynasty of sorts. I’m not a betting man, but if I had to guess, I’d say that after eight years of Hillary there will be eight years of Michelle, then eight years each for Chelsea, Sasha, and Malia.”
But “not so fast,” says Democratic strategist Tracy Klugian, who believes such predictions sell Hillary short: “Assuming her current poll numbers hold up in 2024, I think it’s safe to say that Hillary Clinton will be the most popular President in U.S. history. In that event, the Twenty-second Amendment, which limits the President to two terms, will be repealed and Hillary will run again.”
Mr. Logsdon, however, scoffs at that scenario: “If the Twenty-second Amendment is repealed, Bill will run again.”

North Korea Launches Fragrance - Posted by Andy Borowitz

North Korea Launches Fragrance
Posted by Andy Borowitz

PYONGYANG (The Borowitz Report)—North Korean leader Kim Jong-un surprised Korea-watchers today by abruptly cancelling his nation’s controversial rocket test and launching a fragrance instead.
The dictator’s signature fragrance, called “Number Un,” could be on store shelves in time for Christmas, according to the Korean Central News Agency.
The decision to launch a fragrance rather than a rocket “shows a kind of realism that has been rare in the Kim family,” said North Korea expert Dr. Hiroshi Kyosuke, of the University of Tokyo.
“I think Kim Jong-un most likely said to himself, ‘Given how badly my last rocket did, maybe I’ll just launch a fragrance,’ ” he said.
The official North Korean announcement offered this description of the new fragrance: “Number Un deliriously combines the sweet smells of North Korea’s native unicorns with the irresistible aroma of our Dear Leader himself. This holiday season, every kiss begins with Kim Jong-un.

Insightful about the minds of some who sound ignorant "even when they aren't" LTE in my paper today

This LTE in my paper caught my eye, and then there was the cartoon illustrating some of it.

Learning lessons
A colleague surprised me by saying he would vote for Mitt Romney because a conservative would do more to reduce the debt. I thought my colleague knew better. Soon after, a letter in the Journal cited history clearly suggesting liberals are more effective improving the economy (“Conservatives,” Nov. 2). I considered sending it to him, but didn't. It wouldn't have helped because lowering the debt wasn't his real reason.

Folks who are well-read and bright, like my colleague, know to avoid being up-front about their difficult-to-defend notions. Instead, they give made-up but hopefully more defensible reasons for their voting preferences. But doing that makes them sound ignorant when they aren't.

Republicans lost badly because a few weren't well informed or smart enough to keep to themselves glimpses into their false beliefs. So we heard the foolish, disrespectful comments about the “47 percent” and “legitimate rape.”
The Republican Party leadership has learned a lesson from its losses: be even more deceptive regarding its unpopular policies. The lesson the rest of us must learn is to not take seriously what's said by such conservatives but pay close attention to their actions.
Since the election, Sen. John McCain, an elderly white male, publicly advised Republicans to be more respectful of people who're different. Evidently not taking his own advice, McCain has been treating disrespectfully a young African-American woman (U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice) for a reason that makes little sense, other than as a petty act of revenge.
