Excellent story - Philly native who is still in China

https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/coronavirus/philly-native-in-china-shares-lessons-learned-during-covid-19-pandemic/2341939/

For Roy Aguilar, it seemed like a great opportunity. The 24-year-old North Philadelphia native and Drexel University graduate was applying for journalism jobs last year when he heard back from a company in China offering him a job as a blog

There was a day where I forgot, because you can’t leave your house without a mask,” he said. “Not wearing a mask is like wearing a Cowboys jersey at an Eagles game. You’re going to get dirty looks from people. People are going to harass you, particularly the police. Not in a bad way, but they just want to ensure safety.”

Aguilar was approached by a police officer who told him he needed to cover his mouth.

“So I just put my scarf over my mouth, and I went back to get my mask,” he said. “But even then I could see people looking at me and staring at me."

If I felt like this was something that wasn’t beatable and this was the apocalypse then I would’ve certainly left. But once I saw the discipline and tenacity of the Chinese people, I saw that this was beatable.

Wonder who in the WH told trump to stop flights from China?

They deserve some praise for sure ( from a humankind perspective). If you take a political hat off for a second (why not), the WHO was actually the entity who said it was not something other countries should worry about on Jan 23. Trump stopped flights in from China effective 2-2.

Been delving into this. IMHO, We've got to nail him on February forward except for dismantling the pandemic team who might have foreseen what was coming. Especially since they have out of context clips of Biden, Pelosi, and Sanders dissing the idea of a Chinese travel ban. They are also big time claiming China hid and lied about infections. So they know we will come at him.

Here's the time line...
On December 31 last year, China alerted WHO to several cases of unusual pneumonia in Wuhan, a port city of 11 million people in the central Hubei province. The virus was unknown.

Several of those infected worked at the city's Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market, which was shut down on January 1.

As health experts worked to identify the virus amid growing alarm, the number of infections exceeded 40.

On January 5, Chinese officials ruled out the possibility that this was a recurrence of the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) virus - an illness that originated in China and killed more than 770 people worldwide in 2002-2003.

On January 7, officials announced they had identified a new virus, according to the WHO. The novel virus was named 2019-nCoV and was identified as belonging to the coronavirus family, which includes SARS and the common cold.

Coronaviruses are common and spread through being in proximity to an infected person and inhaling droplets generated when they cough or sneeze, or touching a surface where these droplets land and then touching one's face or nose.

Yale: danger of domestic travel has exceeded the danger of international travel since early/mid Marc

https://www.courant.com/coronavirus/hc-news-coronavirus-connecticut-outbreak-washington-20200404-ehenfigfhvcwhi4b4jrsocy7va-story.html

A new study by researchers at the Yale School of Public Health shows that the vast majority of Connecticut’s first coronavirus cases have roots in Washington state, and that the danger of domestic travel has exceeded the danger of international travel since early- or mid-March.

The study also points to a need for local responses to the virus, as opposed to international travel bans or restrictions. While officials were focused on monitoring international travel, the study suggests it was actually domestic travel that brought the virus to the state.

Wake Forest tests and recommends homemade mask material

Homemade masks can play a significant role in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic but the type of fabric used is key to their effectiveness, according to tests performed at Wake Forest Baptist Health.

In order to determine the protective qualities of homemade cloth masks, a team of doctors and scientists used rigorous testing, known as particulate filtration, to evaluate 13 different designs from approximately 400 masks made by community volunteers.

Wake Forest Baptist Health says the goal was to find out which type of mask best-removed particles 0.3 – 1.0 microns in diameter, the size of many viruses and bacteria, in comparison to standard surgical masks and N95 respirators.

The test team discovered that the masks’ effectiveness varied widely. The best homemade masks achieved 79% filtration as compared to surgical masks (62% to 65%) and N95 masks (97%). But other homemade masks tested performed significantly worse, sometimes demonstrating as little as 1% filtration, Segal said.

The best-performing design was made of two layers of high-quality, heavyweight “quilter’s cotton” with a thread count of 180 or more, and those with an especially tight weave and thicker thread such as batiks. A double-layer mask with a simple cotton outer layer and an inner layer of flannel also performed well, he said.

The inferior performers were made of single-layer masks or double-layer designs of lower quality, lightweight cotton.

New one: Flush with lid down

https://www.forbes.com/sites/alexandrasternlicht/2020/04/02/why-you-should-flush-with-the-lid-down-virologist-warns-of-fecal-oral-transmission-of-covid-19/

Topline: While scientists have warned that COVID-19 can be spread by fecal-oral transmission (hence the importance of post-bathroom hand washing) the disease can also be spread through what is known as "aerosolized feces" which means that it's more important than ever to close the lid of the toilet while flushing, according to experts.

Narcissism + Game Show. He is playing Ventilator Apprentice!

Yesterday he said THEY would control the ventilators! And they would decide. And people asking for too many. Like he knows.

I watched our small city's mayor's meeting that included local hospital reps. Hospitals said they WILL need them. So our mayor went to TX Gov Abbott who said, don't worry about it, we'll handle it.

Trump LOVES controlling the ultimate game show ever! Who lives or dies.

Moment of silence thread.. 10Ok ++++ are gonna die. More

than Vietnam. And all of them will be alone on a ventilator that may or not be present, depending on the whims of our dictator.
