GOP Newsletter Calls for Armed Revolution if Obama Re-Elected

The Greene County, Virginia Republican Committee publishes a monthly newsletter for members called “The Constitutional Conservatives.” The newsletter is heavy on Tea Party rhetoric about how Obama and liberals are ruining America, and so forth. But even by these standards, an item in the March newsletter stands out.

In the “Whitehouse Watchdog” column, editor Ponch McPhee says that America cannot survive four more years under Obama, a “political socialist ideologue” who is “unlike anything world history has ever witnessed or recognized.” McPhee argues that Americans will have no option “but armed revolution should we fail with the power of the vote in November:”

Request from Assange Response from Australian Government
Date: 29 May 2012
From: Gareth Peirce [of Birnberg, Peirce & Associates, representing Julian Assange in London]
To: Ken Pascoe [@dfat.gov.au - Consular-General, Australian High Commision, London]

Dear Mr Pascoe

SUBJECT: Julian Assange

Thank you for your email of 25 May.

Mr Assange has indeed, a number of concerns which I relay to you. Through you perhaps, they might be relayed to the appropriate ministers in Australia. We feel sure that they would wish to be aware of those concerns that are of the highest importance.

A number relate to the need for urgent contact between the Australian government and the Swedish government, between the Australian government and the US government, and between the Australian government and the UK government.

We understand from Jennifer Robinson that at a recent meeting with the Attorney General in Melbourne, in April 2012, a number of these issues were discussed. (We send this email in parallel, therefore, to the Attorney General’s Department). Date: 19 July 2012
From: Ken Pascoe [@dfat.gov.au - Consular-General, Australian High Commision, London]
To: Gareth Peirce [of Birnberg, Peirce & Partners, representing Julian Assange in London]

Dear Ms Peirce,

Thank you for your letter of 29 May conveying concerns from your client, Mr Assange. As requested, your letter has been brought to the attention of the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Attorney-General. I have consulted with senior officials from DFAT and the Attorney-General’s Department in Canberra in preparing the following response.

Romney Adviser: It's 'Politically Unwise' To Campaign In Specifics

So far, putting Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) on presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney's ticket hasn't led to any detailed plans for his top issue, the budget. That won't change, according to a Romney aide who spoke to Politico.

"The nature of running a presidential campaign is that you're communicating direction to the American people," a Romney adviser, who is not named, told Politico. "Campaigns that are about specifics, particularly in today's environment, get tripped up."

The issue of the budget, particularly taxes and cuts to entitlement programs, is a pivotal one for the election and is one both campaigns are trying to exploit. For the Romney campaign, that has meant accusing President Barack Obama of decimating Medicare by taking funds from it for his health care law, even though that is a false claim. Ryan's own budget would transform the program to make it almost unrecognizable.
