Raine1967
Raine1967's JournalHappy New year, DU.
It's been a tough one for so many, I just wanted to tell each and every one of you, I appreciate you and this place we call Democratic Undergound.
I appreciate you and what your words here mean to me!
Question about the Excerpt button:
It used to be that I could highlight a block of text and use excerpt in order to have quoted parts of an article have a gray background.
Right now, it appears as tho 'block quote' and 'excerpt' have the same function and the graying out is no longer there. Was there a change I missed and if so, why was it changed?
ETA: From the W&H HTML look up table post:
Create a styled, indented blockquote
(useful for posting excerpts from articles)
Create an indented blockquote
(without color background)

I hope you had a wonderful holiday!
Dick Cheney's Night Before Christmas
Dick Cheney's Night Before ChristmasTwas the night before Christmas when all through the chamber
not a captive was moaning, it couldnt have been lamer.
The black hoods were hung oer each prisoners eyes
with hopes thered be no talk of violent demise
The contractors were nestled all snug in their beds
While visions of torture all danced in their heads
And Lynne with her nightcap and I with my whip
had just settled in after quite a long trip
When out on the lawn there arose such agitation
I jumped up and down and screamed out damnation!
Away to the window I waddled most quickly
Shoved the armed guard aside, I did so quite briskly
The moon on the breast of the blood soaked cement
showed that our time had not been misspent.
When, what to my beady eyes should I view
But a gaggle of Senators and worse, most were blue.
With a little old lady, so perky and tart
I knew in a moment that she thinks shes so smart.
More rapid than bullets her followers came
She yelled and she screamed and she called them by name:
Now Udall! Now Warner! Now Wyden and Heinrich
On Rockefeller! On King On Mikulski but not Risch!
To the top of the gun turret, the the top of the fence
Dash away Dash away and lets try to make sense.
And then, in a flurry, I tuned into Fox News
she was pointing and angry in her sensible shoes
As I stared at the screen and let out a sneer
The door burst wide open and there she appeared
She was dressed in pastel with a smart little jacket
and clasped in her arms was a quite a large packet
I reached for the phone to call in the troops
but the media was calling; they all wanted scoops
She spoke not a word, but went right to her work
I glared at her long and let out a smirk
I told her shed regret the day she was born
that Id have the guards beat her until she was worn
I went on to tell her that no one would believe
at that the things that we do and all we achieve
but she looked at me squarely and laughed to my face
as I reached in my pocket to look for my mace
This hefty report has been my main goal
most people acknowledge that you havent a soul
and by the spring of next year, before Ramadan
this report will breaks records as it tops Amazon
Then she turned on her heels and wheeled towards the door
this little old woman whose views I abhor
and I heard her exclaim and she vanished from view
Happy Christmas to all as I screamed back FUCK YOU

LOVED THSI! Mom calls into CSPAN to berate her arguing pundit sons
http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2014/12/16/hero-mom-calls-into-cspan-to-berate-her-arguing-pundit-sons/(video at link, I would love the entire C-Span segment if anyone can find it! )
Youre right, Im from down south, she said. And Im your MOTHER.
Shed called to take issue with something her kids said on air: That the brothers political bickering you see, one is liberal, and the other is conservative is typical of most families. I dont know many families that are fighting at Thanksgiving, she said. Im hoping youll have some of this out of your system when you come here for Christmas. I would really like a peaceful Christmas.
Steve Scully, the shows host, jumped in to clarify: This was not planned. She called in on the normal line.
The look on those faces were priceless. Reduced to young boys by Mom in under a second!

This just makes sense.

This is the vehicle that accommodates up to 17 people who pedal, serve, drive, and imbibe as it travels. Invented in the Netherlands as a way to promote a local tavern, its high-grade steel chassis provides a reliable, safe, and open deck ideal for socializing. With five pedal seats per side, 10 pedalers propel the vehicle up to 5 mph on flat surfaces with grades up to 6%. A bench in the rear and two additional seats provide seating for five passengers. The final spots are taken up by a driver who sits in front at the wheel and a bartender who serves revelers while standing on a low interior deck that runs the length of the vehicle. An empty wine barrel accommodates a keg of your preferred brew; it connects to a tap and overflow tray at the bar (linkage required), which has cup holders to secure beverages. The included sound system places four speakers in the bar's overhead storage racks beneath its wooden roof, allowing you to play music from an integrated AM/FM radio that supports MP3 connectivity (required). Supports pedalers up to 300 lbs. each. Special conditions and guarantee limitations apply. 20' L x 8' W x 10' H. (2,300 lbs.)
At only 40 grand, it's a steal!
Minor communication thing:
I was looking to see who was on the future hosts list. I clicked on the about this group link
Should this be updated? I am basing my question on this announcement post.
Group Hosts are assigned either by the DU Administrators, or by other Hosts of that group. Group Hosts have the following abilities: 1) They can lock threads which they believe violate the group's stated purpose; 2) they can pin threads to the top of the group; 3) they may completely block out members whom they believe are not adhering to the group's purpose; 4) they may add other members as group Hosts; and 5) they may remove any Host that became a Host after they did (and who is listed below their name on the list below).
Currently there are no Hosts assigned to this group. If you would like to become a Host of this group, contact an Administrator.
We all know that the ForumHost group has hosts. I know it's probably low on the list of things to do, but I think it would help for people wanting to know who are hosts and how they can become one. LAst time I checked we did not have a very long list of people willing to become a host.
I think most People on DU are smart enough to figure it out, but saying that there are no hosts in the hosts forum seems a bit confusing for those that are not hosts and may want to be one.
My 5000th post!
and it is on the 10th anniversary of my being an official member of DU! I must have lurked for 2-3 years before I got the guts to sign up and post.
Thank you to DU and its members for letting me be a part of this wonderful place!
