The Fall Guy

Saw this last night on IMAX. Loved it. Other reviews from the press focused on liking it because of the romance theme between Emily Blunt character and Gosling character which I liked also but I also liked the movement of the behind the scenes element of making movies with stunts.

One of the reasons I was intrigued with it was a recent experience I had with a guy who came to fix some sound problems with our sound system in our house we had just moved into. He did a great job, then, my husband started talking with him and the guy revealed that his second job was as a stunt man. Whoa! He told us about the movies he'd been in, the stunts he'd done. He'd stunted in a movie about the baseball player Jackie Robinson and others. So we watched the Robinson movie and there he was but we never saw his face just his body. He was in the credits.

Made me wonder, so Gosling was playing a stunt man in the movie but who was the stunt guy that was doing his stunts? Lots of stunt men were noted in the credits.

Anyway, I think the movie was great. Perhaps could have been edited and a little shorter but still great.

Richard Brody in the New Yorker gave it a rave review.

Wicked Little Letters

My husband and I watched this last night in the theatre. Both of us loved it. I gave it 4 out of 4 stars, he gave it 4 out of 5. Based on a true story back in the 1920s in England. Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley both fantastic. I loved the script. As a playwright myself I'm always analyzing scripts. I won't go into the ending, but both of us were in tears. Me sobbing, him not sobbing but tearing up. The whole audience just sat there for a long time absorbing it.

It was hard at times understanding the talking as they were all talking fast and in deep British/Irish accents, but regardless of that we always got the gist of what was being said. Please let me know what you think after you see it.

Has anyone seen The Devil All the Time on Netflix?

It's a disgusting but excellent thriller. Watched it last night on Netflix. I recommend it highly if you can tolerate brutality.

Here's the synopsis from IMDB: "Sinister characters converge around a young man devoted to protecting those he loves in a postwar backwoods town teeming with corruption and brutality."

Lots of good actors: Tom Holland, Bill Skarsgard, Robert Pattinson and many more.

Here's a longer storyline: Set in rural southern Ohio and West Virginia, The Devil All the Time follows a cast of compelling and bizarre characters from the end of World War II to the 1960s. There's Willard Russell, tormented veteran of the carnage in the South Pacific, who can't save his beautiful wife, Charlotte, from an agonizing death by cancer no matter how much sacrificial blood he pours on his "prayer log." There's Carl and Sandy Henderson, a husband-and-wife team of serial killers, who troll America's highways searching for suitable models to photograph and exterminate. There's the spider-handling preacher Roy and his crippled virtuoso-guitar-playing sidekick, Theodore, running from the law. And caught in the middle of all this is Arvin Eugene Russell, Willard and Charlotte's orphaned son, who grows up to be a good but also violent man in his own right.

Moving to LA/Burbank area soon.

Any advice on neighborhoods to move to? Our daughter lives in Burbank. We're thinking about trying to be within 15 minutes drive time from her. My husband's nervous about North Hollywood, but I'm very interested in it. Is it safe there? We also looked at placed north of Burbank and liked them but then we'd have to drive farther for entertainment. We like theatre, movies, and jazz.

Any thoughts on all this?

I'd really know what you think of it. It's quite a complex movie. (It's on Amazon Prime)

Republicans new mantra: Psychopaths and Sociopaths United

As a licensed mental health professional (I'm going to shield my identity any further)
it is my humble, expert opinion that the above mantra is correct. They wear it
proudly and without conscience. Let empathy be damned.

Brazilian singer, Ivan Lins, grateful for Biden/Harris win!

The victory of honor, dignity, common sense, education, intelligence, goodwill, democracy - no rancid, no apology to violence and torture, aggression, arrogance, lies, fake news, homophobia, misogyny, racism, religious fundamentalism, ignorance, little case for the pandemic, disrespect for the environment: dreads that sadly plague our country, encouraged by our sheriff. Comparing here and here, difference from water to wine. Deserved victory of @joebiden and @kamalaharris, of elegance over mediocrity, stupidity. The world, with very few exceptions, thanks and regains hope. Hallelujah! 🙏🏻💫 .

Coming to visit soon

Hi, My husband and I are coming to Fairview, Wyoming in about 10 days.
I've been checking the weather. It seems pretty cold (compared to where
we live in south Florida!)

How's the snow situation?

Anything interesting to do nearby--closest city is Afton. Any cool bars,
restaurants, etc. Sightseeing?

Are there Democrats in Wyoming?
