Another new low for Republicans if they wave through Wendy Vitter, wife of ex-Sen David Vitter of DC Madam fame, extending spousal courtesy to install her as lifetime federal judge after she won't say whether she supports Brown v Board of Education

The 2018 Congressional Retirement Tracker

This list doesn't include the latest news of Dennis Ross from Florida, but it might be worth bookmarking for future reference. They are apparently going to keep it updated.

David Hogg might need more security than Scott Pruitt.

A conservative commentator who sent a violent and vulgar tweet saying he would use "a hot poker" to sexually assault a 17-year-old survivor of a Florida high school shooting has resigned from a St. Louis TV station after several advertisers withdrew from his show.

KDNL-TV has canceled "The Allman Report" and accepted Jamie Allman's resignation, according to a brief statement from Ronn Torossian, a spokesman for the Sinclair Broadcast Group, which operates the TV station. Before the show's launch in January 2015, KDNL-TV touted it as a nontraditional newscast with a conservative spin.

Allman hasn't responded to messages from the Associated Press seeking comment. He was absent Monday from his show on KFTK-FM. The radio station's owner, Emmis Communications, did not immediately respond to an email Tuesday asking about Allman's status.

Several businesses pulled advertising from Allman's shows after he sent the March 26 tweet targeting David Hogg. Allman's Twitter account was "locked" shortly after he sent the tweet, restricting access to his account, but a screenshot of it has been widely circulated on social media.

I have seen some really hateful remarks directed at David Hogg and the other students who are leading the protests, but this is the worst yet. Enough is enough.

Remember when the rich paid their fair share?

Hey kids. I'm in my 60s. You've never lived in an America where the rich paid their fair share. I have. Let me tell you what that was like:
* We built new schools
* We built new highways
* We cut the poverty rate
* We lead the world in technology
* WE WENT TO THE FUCKING MOON

You know what else, kids? The rich were still richer than the rest of us.

Trump instructs military to begin planning for withdrawal from Syria

Source: Washington Post

President Trump has instructed military leaders to prepare to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria, but has not set a date for them to do so, according to a senior administration official.

In a meeting with top national security officials Tuesday, Trump stressed that U.S. troops can be involved in current training tasks for local forces to ensure security in areas liberated from the Islamic State, the official said.

But the president said that the U.S. mission would not extend beyond the destruction of the Islamic State, and that he expects other countries, particularly wealthy Arab states in the region, to pick up the task of paying for reconstruction of stabilized areas, including sending their own troops, if necessary.

Trump on Tuesday had repeated his desire to quickly “get out” of Syria, even as his top commander for the Middle East outlined the need for an ongoing military presence there.

Researchers say fake news had 'substantial impact' on 2016 election

A team of researchers at Ohio State University conclude in a new study that “fake news” stories had a significant impact on voters in the 2016 presidential election that may have impacted the final result.

The study, first reported by The Washington Post on Tuesday, sought to measure the degree to which false news stories dissuaded voters who cast ballots for President Obama in 2012 from voting for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in 2016.

While the researchers emphasized that they could not definitively say that fake news “caused” Obama voters to defect from Clinton in 2016, they nevertheless concluded that these stories had a “substantial impact” on voters that may have been sufficient enough to swing the election to Donald Trump.
“Our analysis leads us to the conclusion that fake news most likely did have a substantial impact on the voting decisions of a strategically important set of voters—those who voted for Barack Obama in 2012,” the researchers wrote.

“Indeed, given the very narrow margins of victory by Donald Trump in key battleground states, this impact may have been sufficient to deprive Hillary Clinton of a victory in the Electoral College.”
