Four Mass Shootings Have Been Thwarted Since the El Paso Massacre, Authorities Say

In the two weeks since the gun massacre in El Paso, Texas, federal and local authorities have thwarted four additional threats they said could have resulted in mass attacks. All four of the alleged plotters—in Nevada, Connecticut, Florida, and Ohio—were heavily armed young white men. At least three of the four appear to have harbored hateful far-right views, especially toward Jewish, African American, and LGBTQ people.

This latest wave of threats suggests an escalating danger: According to a recent Mother Jones investigation, in the past 10 months alone there have been at least six deadly gun rampages across the United States linked to far-right views, including the attack in El Paso, the massacre at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, and a lethal shooting at the Chabad of Poway synagogue near San Diego. As I also reported recently, law enforcement agencies at all levels have seen a surge in violent plots and threats during Donald Trump’s presidency, the majority of them marked by white supremacist ideology and other strains of far-right extremism. As one veteran US law enforcement agent with expertise in domestic attacks described the trend to me, “This is as active as I’ve seen it in a long time.”

Has anyone heard the slowed down version of "Jolene" by Dolly Parton.

Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” Song Is Completely Transformed When Slowed to 33 RPM

It's not unusual for a classic tune to be reimagined. Most of the time, this is done when another musician performs it as a cover song, but its recreation can be even simpler than that. Many years ago, Dolly Parton’s 1973 hit “Jolene” was slowed down from the original 45 RPM record to just 33 RPM. While not all songs can handle this drastic change in tempo, “Jolene” is transformed in more ways than one.

In the original “Jolene,” the catchy chorus invites a fierce soprano sing-https://mymodernmet.com/dolly-parton-jolene-slowed-down/effect is now a song about a man begging Jolene to have mercy on him as his partner is likely to stray.

My son played this for me recently and I was amazed. What do you think?

Rep. Steve King says humanity might not exist if not for rape and incest

Rep. Steve King said Wednesday that humanity might not exist if not for rape and incest, prompting the latest round of outrage at the Iowa Republican, who has a long history of making inflammatory remarks.

In a discussion at the Westside Conservative Club in Urbandale, Iowa, King was defending his position against laws allowing abortion exceptions in cases of rape and incest.

“What if we went back through all the family trees and just pulled out anyone who was a product of rape or incest? Would there be any population of the world left if we did that?” King said, according to the Des Moines Register. “Considering all the wars and all the rapes and pillages that happened throughout all these different nations, I know that I can’t say that I was not a part of a product of that.”

A spokesman for King did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the House member’s remarks.

I'd swear that they have to lie in bed at nights thinking of asinine remarks to make about reproductive rights.

Surrogate Angels of Death

What to make of the First Lady holding the motherless child and youngest survivor of the El Paso massacre.

Imagine this: A shooter has entered a public place, where you are walking with your family. You have but a minute to realize you can save your 2-month-old by using your own body to shield him from the bullets raining down around you. Mere days later, your baby, the youngest survivor of the El Paso massacre, will appear on television with the very man who inspired the terrorist who killed both you and your husband. A photograph is taken, for posterity.

In the photo, your baby wears a bowtie and tiny jacket; someone has dressed him up for this occasion. He gazes off to the side (toward his aunt, who stands beside First Lady Melania Trump), his body stiff, his face solemn. He is not at ease in this strange lady’s arms. How could he be? Your child has just gotten out of the hospital, where he was treated for broken bones incurred when you desperately threw yourself over his little body and took the bullets that seconds later orphaned him and his two siblings.

Neither the president nor Melania so much as glances at Baby Paul. Oblivious (as ever) to the solemnity of their occasion, they smile broadly, matching veneers on full beam. Your husband came from a family of Trump supporters. Perhaps, in a different world, you might even have wanted to meet Donald Trump, or take a photo with him as he gave one of his signature thumbs-up gestures — everything is A-OK here.

In case you were wondering what happened to the children of the 680 people captured by ICE today. https://twitter.com/AlexLoveWJTV/status/1159270331258986497

Children of those arrested in Wednesday’s #ICE raids near Forest, MS. are being put up in a local gym tonight by neighbors/strangers. Many are left scared & crying after coming home from school & being locked out without their parents. Donated food & drinks are being provided.

These kids are coming home from school to find their parents are gone. I can't imagine how frightened they must feel.
