First draft of Casino Royale Found, Reveals Bond's Real Name To Be James Secretan.

A 1952 early draft of Ian Fleming's first Bond book, Casino Royale, reveals the author had originally intended his hero to call himself James Secretan when undercover.

"Ian’s first idea was to give James Bond an assumed name as his cover," revealed his niece Kate Grimond, whose family owns the draft. "Ian typed it up that way when he [Bond] first met Felix Leiter, the CIA agent, in the casino at the Hotel Splendide."

In the typed manuscript the CIA operative introduces himself to 007 with the words: "My name's Felix Leiter. Glad to meet you."

He replies with the disappointingly long-winded: "Mine's Secretan. James Secretan."

"My Name Is Secretan. James Secretan." Doesn't have the same ring to it.

Police Recover Expensive Engagement Ring That Man Swallowed

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Police say they've got the $3,200 engagement ring a New Hampshire allegedly swallowed during an attempted jewelry store theft.

Authorities charged 52-year-old Ronald Perley with theft and falsifying physical evidence after they say X-rays showed the 14-karat white-gold ring with princess-cut diamonds inside him.

WMUR-TV (http://bit.ly/15cl7n3) reports Manchester police had recovered the ring as of Saturday.

Perley allegedly went into Bellman's Jewelers on Thursday asking about engagement rings. Workers said he grabbed a ring then swallowed it after being confronted.

Psychiatrists Cure Alcholoism By Planting Fake Memories Of Bad Benders In Patients

Researchers are exploring the possibility that convincing drinkers they had a bad experience with liquor — even if they didn’t — could lead them to drink less.

As surprising as it sounds, dozens of studies now show that it is relatively easy to create false childhood memories. By using suggestive techniques such as presenting apparently personal information or having family members claim that false memories are true, up to 40% of people can be convinced that they experienced events that did not occur.

Such studies [PDF] have planted memories of experiences as bizarre as witnessing a person possessed by demons — complete with foaming mouth and vomited hair— or as mundane as having been lost at a mall. The experiments were initially done in the context of court cases like those in which people were wrongly accused of committing Satanic ritual abuse at daycare centers. They showed that traumatic, but false, memories could be implanted. This line of research raised questions about so-called “repressed memory therapies,” which were popular during the 80s and 90s and purported to extract memories so traumatic that people were subconsciously suppressing them. The research showed that suggestive techniques used in those treatments resulted in recall that was inaccurate.

New York Teen Girls Threaten Each Other Over Wearing Same Dress To Prom

It’s every teenage girl’s nightmare — showing up to prom in the same gown as another — but now many are taking to social media to avert such a fashion disaster.

This prom season, girls are laying claim to their gowns of choice by posting photos of the outfits — sometimes right from the store dressing room — on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Tumblr.

Parents may be alarmed at the titles of some of the online prom-dress groups. Names like “Bitch Don’t Steal My Dress” and “Steal My Prom Dress and I’ll Knock You The F--k Out” are common.

A Brooklyn Tech prom page on Facebook greets users with, “Welcome to the page where you tell people you’ll physically hurt them over formal wear.”

But the 466 users who have posted pictures since December are just kidding about ballroom bloodshed.

“I don’t see seriously mean comments, just compliments and likes,” said Sara Zhong, a senior at the school.

What Will Sea Level Rise Look Like In Real Life?

Families, residents and businesses rent storage units when they're low on space – whether they're running out of room in their home or need to clear out the office to make more room for new employees. Space is limited, not just in self storage and for our belongings, but for the places in which we live. How will the rising sea levels affect the area of livable land on the coasts of America?

Have you ever wondered how the rise in sea levels will impact our surroundings? Here, we have projected the outlook of three major locations: Washington D.C. and the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Miami and South Beach, and New York City and the Statue of Liberty.

The white cones on the maps show the location and angle of the camera that is seen in the corresponding illustrations. Thank you to Remik Ziemlinski from Climate Central for providing the high resolution sea level rise maps and for helping me understand the science behind sea level rise.

Hugh Jackman Stalked At Gym By Woman With Electric Razor

New York (CNN) -- Hugh Jackman got a bit more of a workout this weekend than he bargained for.

A woman allegedly screamed "I love you" as she chased the actor with an electric razor while he was at a New York City gym Saturday, police and Jackman's publicist say.

"He was more alarmed than scared," publicist Alan Nierob told CNN Sunday. Jackman thought the woman was grabbing for a weapon, he said.

Manhattan resident Katherine Thurston, 47, was charged with stalking Jackman, according to New York Police spokesman Sgt. Tom Antonetti.

Thurston could not be reached immediately for comment, and it was not immediately clear whether she is being represented by an attorney.

Jackman has seen the woman before outside of his home and his daughter's school, Nierob said.

Justin Bieber Visits Anne Frank House, Makes Astonishingly Clueless Claim

TEENAGE pop singer Justin Bieber has sparked controversy after writing a message in the Anne Frank House guestbook saying that he hoped she would have been a fan of his music.

The 19-year-old is due to perform tonight in Arnhem, around an hour from Amsterdam, where the Anne Frank House is situated, and visited the museum on Saturday night.

Staff from the museum wrote on their Facebook page: “Yesterday night Justin Bieber visited the Anne Frank House, together with his friends and guards.

“Fans were waiting outside to see a glimpse of him. He stayed more than an hour in the museum.

“In our guestbook he wrote: ‘Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber.’”

A ‘belieber’ is the name given to the singer’s fans.

Two Headed Pig Escapes From Chinese Slaughterhouse

A two-headed pig in China has been saved from the slaughterhouse, though may still face a tough fight for life.

The newborn piglet, which was born in a village in Jiujiang, east China’s Jiangxi province, has a pair of snouts, two ears and a shared eye.

Sadly, the chances of survival aren’t looking terribly strong for this little oinker – after inspection by a local vet, it was decided the two-headed pig would do well to make it through to adulthood.

However, the owners have agreed not to slaughter the rare animal.

The condition that causes such mutations is known as axial bifurcation, or polycephaly.

It can occur in animals or humans, and is what happens when an embryo begins to split into twins, only for the process to be interrupted in its early stages. This is how conjoined twins are formed.

Detroit Red Wings Recall Reilly Sheahan

Not really weird news until you see what he was arrested for:

Detroit drafted Sheahan in the first round of the 2010 NHL draft and he played in one game for the Red Wings last year. He had 35 points in 67 games this season for the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Sheahan pleaded guilty to drunken driving in December following an infamous traffic stop. He was wearing the costume of the purple Teletubby named Tinky Winky on Oct. 29 when he was arrested in Grand Rapids, Mich. Police at the time said Sheahan had a blood-alcohol level of 0.30, well over the legal limit.
