Counters! Counters are the wealth proxy of every message board

Not a fan of counters.

People are people and people place more importance on what a member with 20,000 posts (units of wealth) says relative to one with 100 posts.

People who count post totals (wealth) and Rec totals are classists.

That sucks, Number23 (lol at the irony), but it's true.

I learned this on a forum where I have, like, 30K posts. The owner of the forum asked me to tone it down because new people, let's just say "revere" me based solely on my post total. I was all, WTF????? But that's people, and that's what people do. I told the owner to reset my counter to 5000 so that I just fit in.

I assume counters are important for message boards, but since that time, I've always thought they should be hidden. I really don't like that about human nature; the reverence people show those who've accumulated wealth.

As for Steve, I hadn't heard of him until very recently when he was talking about the lack of media coverage being devoted to some shady Romney shenanigans. That was my first interaction with him, and he and I had a brief but friendly interaction, one in which he educated me on the matter. Afterward, I noticed he had a blog, so I clicked on it. Pretty cool stuff.

Then, idk, 2 weeks later he turns up in this thread and gives me an undressing.

What would you do?

My guess is the classists here would take their beating and go away with their tails between their legs.

But that's not how I roll. Many people didn't like my thread from the start and attacked me. I smacked right back. Steve attacked me, I smacked him, too. A lot of people simply wouldn't do that, but that's their problem, and don't be mistaken, it is a problem.

Thanks for this thread...!

I'm alone but not lonely and pretty certain that when I die, it will take several days for people to even know I'm missing. Maybe a week or more.

Well, I have more to say but cannot continue now.

Great topic, thanks again

All the faith he had had had had had no effect on the outcome of his life.

Here's tomorrow's lesson. I see too much of this and I blame you, the teacher.

I know "there, their, and they're" drive every Grammar Nazi nuts, but for the most part, I don't find them indicative of anything. Everyone is guilty of misusing them on occasion. The following, however, I find indicate ignorance.

then/than, then is being used exclusively
supposed to, not suppose to
used to, not use to
should have, not should of (would of, could of)
no one, not noone
cannot, not can not
Chris's, not Chris'

Fix those and my life will improve immeasurably.

TIA

There has to be a point at which technology and efficiency destroy a country

I think what Gates is saying is: we destroyed your country but it will take 20 years before you figure it out

The story kind of goes like this...

First there were brick and mortar bookstores in every neighborhood, all privately owned and staffed, all with different. Then more efficient models -- corporate bookstores like Borders -- wiped out all of the Mom & Pop shops creating vacant store fronts in every neighborhood and having a net negative effect on employment. Then Amazon comes along and wipes out the Borders and now all of the jobs in the neighborhoods are gone and the Borders stores join the other vacant stores. An industry that once employed hundreds of thousands now operates remotely and employs about 50,000.

Not excited about the future...

on the other hand...

...let's look at TPP, an agreement Obama clearly opposes. How do we know this? Let's look at steps 1 thru 12.

Step 1: join the TPPA (2011)
Step 2: seek fast-track TPP
Step 3: popular opposition swells
Step 4: Congressional opposition grows
Step 5: Congress blocks fast-track
Step 6: Congress does nothing and business as usual for years
Step 7: Nearing the end of his term, Obama begins to second guess the wisdom of TPP
Step 8: Obama admin stops defending TPP
Step 9: Obama comes out and says, "No deal."

Did it in 9 steps Obama!!!

We're at the start of Step 6 now. Working exactly as planned!!!!!!!!!! But cannot claim victory for a few more years. Darn, have to look for another example of 12 step success.

I know!!!

Step 1: I admitted I was powerless over alcohol...

No, that's not it!!!!!!!!

"Brand Hand"(?) When I see this, I stop listening

I just saw a commercial with 5 people standing like this, the speaker and her audience of 4. It looked something like this.

Does this make anyone else cringe? Maybe I find this offensive because I'm Italian
