Fresh_Start's JournalThe South is holding America hostage
http://www.salon.com/2013/10/13/the_south_is_holding_america_hostage/There is another thread about South homage to civil war and the "lost cause of the confederacy"...
which had a lot of interesting tangents including one on how the South viewed the loss of the civil war as punishment from God which increased the power of religion in the south...
following these links I found this article...which basically suggests that the southern elite (?) are one of the forces leading to the economic warfare in the US... It matches the pattern I recall where the rustbelts loss of jobs started with an exodus to the sunbelt..
thought it was an interesting perspective
Become a poll worker
http://www.eac.gov/voter_resources/become_a_poll_worker.aspxits not who votes..its who counts the votes...
What are your top priority for the next President?
My top is appointing Supreme Court and Federal Court Justices who will not make decisions like Scalia, Alito, and Thomas. In fact I want more Ginsbergs and Sotomeyers
FDR on Voting
Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves and the only way they could do this is by not voting. Franklin D. Roosevelt
The Obamas are the finest family to inhabit the White House in my entire life
I will greatly miss them
FDR era view of the political spectrum
A former advisor of Franklin D. Roosevelts, Rexford Tugwell, skillfully uses the example of a
communitys need for a new train station to illustrate the difference between liberals and radicals:
Liberals would like to rebuild the station while the trains are running; radicals prefer to blow up the
station and forego service until the new structure is built. One might add that conservatives would
prefer to keep the old station, being satisfied with it, while reactionaries would abandon the station
entirely since they do not approve of trains in the first place.
Bernie's staffers Brand New Congress initiative
is going to recruit tea party conservatives...to make their goals feasible.
If I were going to try to have a liberal platform, the last place I would look is in the tea party
The real reason the GOP has to always push tax cuts
GOP is the "B" team from top to bottom.
Government and Country GOP-style is just not worth as much to anyone.
Would you be willing to pay full price for dinner at a rat-infested eatery?
Anyone who receives public funds should be drug tested....
if poor people are required to be drug tested to receive the pittance called welfare, than public officials who receive more than a pittance and are able to direct public funds should be drug tested as an even higher priority: each pay period would be appropriate commensurate with the amount of money they are receiving from the public and the moneys that they are able to influence.
Another state is looking to make drug testing a condition of welfare...which is what led to this rant
