Rant for the day: Brian Stelter, can we stop giving right wing idiots an automatic mouthpiece?

I am a subscriber and avid reader of Brian Stelter/Oliver Darcy's Reliable Sources column. I read Brian's book and think his critique of the media is very much needed today, though I do think his publicity for CNN items has gotten a little more frequent than it should and less so about other progressive sources.

But that said, he also gives regular coverage to what the dimwits at Fux, Newsmax and OAN are up to. To a certain point, it's a good thing. But last night's column led off with a way too long item about the latest right-wing faux outrage -- complaining about Disney's Bob Chapek and his trying to at first be nonpolitical about Florida's destructive anti-LGBTQ law and then, realizing the mistake in that, outright saying Disney will work to get it repealed. Of course, that didn't sit well with the faux experts like Tuckyo Carlson and Jesse (and former O'Reilly gofer) Watters. Not surprisingly the latter, of course, used the usual "woke" term (righties can't seem to think of any other words) to describe Disney.

Can we please stop making what these idiots say important? Disney will survive long into the future after Carlson and Watters change their stripes like WWE wrestlers, as righties usually do. Actually, the fact righties don't like Disney anymore is a good thing. All the more Disney history for us. (And yes, I'm a big Disney fan. Have missed going to Disney theme parks the last couple of years and it doesn't look like we'll be going this year either, though I hope that's wrong.)

Loudmouths like Watters and Carlson and the rest just live for attention from the other side. If they don't get it, they get all pissy. So can we please make them pissy?

Or should I say pissier?

Will Smith appears to hit Chris Rock after joke about his wife

Source: NBC News/Daniel Arkin

"King Richard" star Will Smith appeared to hit Chris Rock after the stand-up comedian made a joke about the actor's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

Rock, presenting the Oscar for best documentary feature, said that he was excited to watch Pinkett Smith in "G.I. Jane 2."

In 2018, Pinkett Smith revealed she was diagnosed with alopecia.

Smith then walked to the stage at the Dolby Theatre and seemed to hit Rock.

From the archives: Mike Wallace 'Biography' TV program on Sen. Joseph McCarthy from 1962

I found this today. It was made a scant 10 years after the turmoil McCarthy caused in the early '50s. So much of what we saw with McCarthy is what we see with Trump and his Stooges. He even does the name calling that Trump does. It also shows what a great journalist Mike Wallace was back then.

Chris Wallace Says Life at Fox News Became 'Unsustainable'

His father was a superb journalist. Too bad Chris has the Fux blot on his resume now. At least he's broken off from it. Better late, than never.

By Michael Grynbaum/The New York Times

“I just no longer felt comfortable with the programming at Fox.”

Chris Wallace uttered those words matter-of-factly, in between bites of a Sweetgreen salad at his new desk inside the Washington bureau of CNN, the network he joined in January after nearly two decades at Fox News.

For those on the left who admired him, and those on the right who doubted him, it’s a statement that was a long time coming.

A down-the-middle outlier at Fox News who often confounded conservatives by contradicting the network’s right-wing stars, Mr. Wallace was also one of the channel’s fiercest defenders, disappointing liberals who hoped he might denounce colleagues like Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson.

Should CNN bring back Chris Cuomo?

I was commenting on a CNN post on FB this morning and I was surprised how many people said they wouldn't watch CNN again until they brought back Chris Cuomo. I don't know if this was just social media babbling or serious. He was fired, in my view, for a very good reason -- going beyond his job as a journalist in helping out his brother Andrew Cuomo. It's my belief they had justification in terminating him. (Something, ironically, that if you saw the news stories about his firing on Rupert's tabloid trash dump channel that they never do. LOL.)

Just to refresh memories, here's CNN's statement on his firing:

“Chris Cuomo was suspended earlier this week pending further evaluation of new information that came to light about his involvement with his brother’s defense. We retained a respected law firm to conduct the review, and have terminated him, effective immediately.”

“While in the process of that review, additional information has come to light,” CNN’s statement added. “Despite the termination, we will investigate as appropriate.”
But I'm just curious how everyone here feels about it. “Chris Cuomo was suspended earlier this week pending further evaluation of new information that came to light about his involvement with his brother’s defense. We retained a respected law firm to conduct the review, and have terminated him, effective immediately.”

Cuomo has since filed a lawsuit against CNN for "unlawful termination."

So what do you think?

Shooting at Chicago area shopping mall kills 1, wounds teen

Source: Associated Press

ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) — A masked gunman opened fire in a suburban Chicago shopping mall, leaving one man dead and wounding at least one other person — a teenage girl who was found in washroom after shoppers ran for cover, police said.

The gunman, in his mid-20s, opened fire just after 7 p.m. Friday near the food court at the Fashion Outlets of Chicago mall in Rosemont, a village just northwest of the city, Rosemont Police Sgt. Joe Balogh told the Chicago Tribune on Saturday. Police did not release a motive for the shooting but said it was a targeted attack.

The gunman then fled in a car with “other unknown subjects, he said.

More than two hours after the shooting, police stopped that vehicle on an expressway in Chicago, Balogh said. The car’s owner was taken into custody and was being questioned as a person of interest, he said. A gun was seized as evidence, but no charges have been announced.
