DONALD TRUMP IS CHANGING HIS CAMPAIGN SLOGAN TO PROVE HE’S NOT RACIST

Source: Vanity fair

After a week of nonstop criticism from Democrats and Republicans alike for comments many condemned as racially charged, Donald Trump claims to be altering his campaign to be a little more inclusive. While the presumptive G.O.P. has long promised to “make America great again,” Trump now says he’s adding two words to slogan to illustrate just how non-racist he really is.

“You know, I have the theme ‘make America great again,’ and I've added a couple of things,” Trump announced to supporters at a campaign rally in Richmond, Virginia, on Friday night. “Right now I’m adding make America great again—I’m adding ‘for everyone,’ because it’s really going to be for everyone. It’s not going to be for a group of people, it’s going to be for everyone. It’s true.”

The allegedly amended slogan, which has yet to appear on any official signage or Trump merchandise, comes after the presidential candidate spent the first half of June repeatedly denouncing Gonzalo Curiel, the federal judge of Mexican heritage presiding over the Trump University class action lawsuit, as inherently biased against him. (Curiel was born in Indiana.) His comments were widely condemned by the Washington political establishment, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who suggested he may be an idiot, and House Speaker Paul Ryan, who called Trump’s statement the “textbook definition of a racist comment.”

Oklahoma teen, 17, dies after his eight-foot- deep sand tunnel collapses on top of him at the beach

Oklahoma teen, 17, dies after his eight-foot- deep sand tunnel collapses on top of him at the beach while on vacation in Florida
Travor Brown, 17, died Friday after being taken off life support
He was critically injured after a sand tunnel he created collapsed on him
The tunnel measured about 20-feet-wide and 8-9-feet-deep
Brown was visiting Florida with friends when the accident occurred

Beachgoers told the Bay County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) they'd seen a couple of teens digging in a sand bank and later noticed a teen's feet sticking out of the sand.
Witnesses and rescue crews started digging Brown out using shovels and wooden panels to keep the sand from collapsing more as they dug, according to the news station.
First responders performed CPR on him before they rushed him to a hospital, where days later his parents made the decision to remove him from life support.

How one of L.A.'s highest-paying jobs went to the boss' son

For seasoned mariners, it was the job opportunity of a lifetime.

A rare opening last year in the city of Los Angeles’ small corps of port pilots, who guide cargo ships and oil tankers into the harbor in San Pedro, drew more than 50 applicants, including ship’s captains and tugboat skippers with many years of experience.

That was no surprise, considering L.A.’s full-time port pilots averaged $434,000 in salary and bonuses last year, making them by far the city’s highest-paid employees.

The surprise came when the job went to 33-year-old Michael J. Rubino, whose father is Chief Port Pilot Michael R. Rubino.

_____

It turned out Rubino’s application overstated his tenure as a tugboat captain in San Pedro Bay, a key job requirement, according to Harbor Department emails obtained by The Times. As a result, about a month after Rubino began work in September 2015, he was terminated for “failure to meet the minimum qualifications,” city records show.

______

Port piloting consists of boating out to ships waiting to enter the harbor, climbing a rope ladder to the deck and then standing on the bridge to provide local knowledge, including advice on currents and navigational hazards, as the the vessel is steered through the congested waterway to the dock.

The stakes are high. Misdirection from a pilot while docking a massive container ship could cause millions of dollars in damage and endanger lives, while an error with an oil tanker could trigger an environmental disaster.

Annoying music plays in Colorado bathroom to keep homeless out

Annoying music plays in Colorado bathroom to keep homeless out

By KKCO | Posted: Fri 3:54 PM, Jun 10, 2016

(KKCO) For a lot of people out there, the thought of using a public restroom is tough enough. So imagine walking into a restroom and hearing music right out of an episode of "Barney & Friends?".

Two weeks ago, Grand Junction, Colorado began piping kids songs through the vents in public restrooms to keep troublesome folks out, and let those who really need it, do their duty.

"Over the years we've had vandalism or people staying inside the restrooms to get out of the weather," said Rob Schoeber, Director Grand Junction Parks & Recreation.

But not everyone is happy. Advocates for the homeless describe the program as part of a "civil war" targeting the homeless.

But songs like "Skip to my Lou" and "If You're Happy and You Know It" aren't meant to give you added irritation while having to go. Instead the goal is to make the bathrooms an obnoxious place for those using them for other purposes.

"Over the years we've had vandalism or people staying inside the restrooms to get out of the weather," said Rob Schoeber, Director Grand Junction Parks & Recreation.

Two weeks ago, the city began piping kids songs through the vents to keep troublesome folks out, and let those who really need it, do their duty.

The idea follows a law enforcement model called CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design)," Schoeber said. "The music was picked by our staff, they came up with it to make it less inducive for people to sleep in there."

Donald Trump's 'Pocahontas' attack on Elizabeth Warren leaves GOP struggling to defend him

The furor over Trump's assaults on the impartiality of a Latino judge had just begun to subside when he lobbed two tweets Friday morning responding to Warren, who had lambasted him as a "thin-skinned, racist bully" in a speech the previous evening.

"Pocahontas is at it again!" Trump wrote in one. "Goofy Elizabeth Warren, one of the least productive U.S. Senators, has a nasty mouth."

"No, seriously - Delete your account," Warren tweeted back. One of the senator's supporters secured Pocahontas.com and redirected it to Warren's campaign site.

At a rally Friday night in Richmond, Virginia, Trump repeatedly called Warren "Pocahontas," prompting some in the crowd to break out in Indian war cries.

The real estate developer has repeatedly invoked the 17th-century Native American figure to refer to Warren, an allusion to controversy about her heritage. The senator has said she grew up amid family stories about her Cherokee lineage, but that account has not been proved.

Trump began going after Warren's claimed ancestry earlier this year, responding to the senator's repeated slams of him as a "loser" and a bully. "Who's that, the Indian?" he said at a March news conference when asked about Warren. "You mean the Indian?"

A half-full coliseum erupted into Indian war whoops as Donald Trump called a U.S. senator “Pocahont

— A half-full coliseum erupted into Indian war whoops as Donald Trump called a U.S. senator “Pocahontas” Friday at a rally here, where the mogul-candidate was back to his teleprompter-free ways.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee expressed tongue-in-cheek remorse for calling Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) “Pocahontas,” a jab at her claim that she is of Native American descent.

“I”m doing such a disservice,” he said, “to Pocahontas.”

Boy caught on video sneaking into neighbor’s garage to hug her dog

When a Louisiana woman placed a surveillance camera in her garage, she never expected to see this trespasser. The trespasser was not a criminal, but a little boy who had been running into her garage to hug her dog.

Dog owner Hollie Mallet took to Facebook in the hopes of identifying the boy.

“Attn Neighbors! Anyone know who this sweet little boy is?” she posted. “Every now and then when he rides his bike he will quickly come and love on my dog or play fetch real quick, but always leaves quick like he doesn’t know if he should be here! I’d like to tell him he’s welcome to stay and play, she loves the attention!”

After watching the video, Ginger Breaux recognized the boy as her son Josh and alerted Mallet. She explained that her son loves animals, especially dogs. The Daily Mail reports that the Breuax family’s dog Bella recently died.

Now, Mallet now invites Josh to frequently visit her dog Dutchess.

No one shows for teen's birthday. The internet steps in

Call for a better birthday for autistic teen answered

Photo shows heartbroken teen all alone at birthday party
WCVB - Boston, MA

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Hallee Sorenson sat alone in a bowling alley, flanked by balloons and streamers, at her 18th birthday party after no one showed up. Her cousin wants to make things right for her this year.

Rebecca Guildford, of Oxford, Massachusetts, said that Sorenson, who is autistic, deserves a big celebration for her 19th birthday next month, so she posted the party picture of Sorenson on Facebook.

"This would mean a lot to her mother as well, for as you can imagine, watching your child cry into her birthday cake breaks your heart," Guildford wrote. "If there is anyone who deserves a great birthday, this is the girl."

Sorenson lives in Bangor, Maine. Guildford asked people to "flood her mailbox" with birthday cards and letters, and included an address in the Facebook post.

The response has been overwhelming.

Since Texas Cut Planned Parenthood’s HIV Program, Houston Hasn't Tested a Single Person

Since Texas Cut Planned Parenthood’s HIV Program, Houston Hasn't Tested a Single Person

In a political gambit to prove that they love fetuses more than anything else in the whole world, Texas lawmakers have put their constituents at higher risk of an HIV outbreak. The Texas Observer reports that since the state ended its 28-year HIV-prevention contract with Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, which covers the Houston area, at the end of last year, one of the three counties that was supposed to take over the program hasn’t conducted a single HIV test.

PPGC used to get $600,000 per year from the Department of State Health Services to provide HIV testing, prevention education, and condoms to Texas residents. In the wake of last year’s attack on Planned Parenthood by video-camera–wielding anti-abortion activists who have now been indicted in Texas on felony charges, the state opted to let PPGC’s contract expire and divert those funds to three county health departments in Harris, Galveston, and Fort Bend counties.

Harris, which encompasses the city of Houston, got the bulk of the HIV-prevention funds: $250,000. In the five months since it took on the contract, it hasn’t done a single thing. Galveston and Fort Bend began testing patients in March and May, respectively. PPGC estimates that, in those five months, it would have already provided 2,900 HIV tests and given out 165,000 condoms. The former head of PPGC’s HIV-prevention initiative, who’d served in that role for 13 years, was laid off with her seven-person staff when the state ended its contract with Planned Parenthood at the end of last year.

This gap in essential public-health services, which anti–Planned Parenthood state officials promised would not occur in the handoff, is doubly shameful because Harris County has an HIV-diagnosis rate that’s almost twice as high as the Texas average. Nearly 23,000 HIV-positive people live in Harris County, where 25 percent of Texas’ new HIV diagnoses crop up, the Observer reports, and Planned Parenthood played an integral role in identifying new cases to help prevent transmission:
