“China, the European Union and others have been manipulating their currencies and interest rates lower, while the U.S. is raising rates while the dollars gets stronger and stronger with each passing day - taking away our big competitive edge,” Trump says on Twitter.

Dow futures fall nearly 100 points after Trump says he's 'ready to go' to $500 billion in tariffs on

U.S. stock index futures declined after President Donald Trump said he is ready to put tariffs on every Chinese good coming to the U.S. if necessary.
"I'm ready to go to 500," the president told CNBC's Joe Kernen in a "Squawk Box" interview.
Futures fell to their lows after the airing of the interview Friday morning New York time.
"That's going to reignite the trade-war fears," said Peter Cardillo, chief market economist at Spartan Capital Securities. "That can only complicate things in the market."

The NRA Has Deep Ties to Accused Russian Spy Maria Butina
Federal prosecutors unsealed charges this week against 29-year-old Russian national Maria Butina, a self-styled gun activist with long-running ties to the NRA who worked for Alexander Torshin, a high-level Russian government and banking official from President Vladimir Putin’s party. Butina, who was a graduate student at American University until this spring, began traveling to the United States in 2014 and operated as a “covert Russian agent,” according to an FBI affidavit. She acted as an unregistered foreign agent and participated in a multiyear conspiracy to infiltrate conservative political groups including the NRA, federal prosecutors say, in order to “advance the interests of the Russian Federation.”
Butina and Torshin—who for years also traveled to America for NRA events and was among Russian officials sanctioned by the Treasury Department in April—worked together in attempts to cultivate Republican politicians and eventually Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. Under Torshin’s direction, “the covert influence campaign involved substantial planning, international coordination, and preparation,” according to court documents, which detail some of the evidence gathered by the FBI on Butina’s connections to a Russian intelligence agency and Russian oligarchs. Torshin is referred to only as a “Russian official” in the court documents, but his identity has since been confirmed in multiple news reports, and he appears with Butina in both the United States and Russia throughout several years’ worth of social media posts previously documented by Mother Jones.
The pair of Russians spent years building ties with the NRA, as we reported in our recent investigation. And according to a New York Times report this week, the NRA “repeatedly brought Butina from her native Russia to the United States for events until she obtained a student visa in August 2016.”

Schiff moves to subpoena interpreter from Trump, Putin meeting

The top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee on Thursday moved to subpoena the interpreter present at President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent private meeting.
“It is our motion that the interpreter be subpoenaed to come and testify in closed session before our committee,” Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Cali.) said during a public hearing on China’s threats to American government.
The California Democrat argued that the interpreter could have witnessed a key exchange which would shed light on U.S. national security matters.
“I regret that we have to request this in today’s meeting. We requested a business meeting next week, but that request has been declined. This may be our last opportunity before we go into an extended recess to vote to subpoena the interpreter and find out if there are any other national security problems that arose from this meeting,” Schiff continued.

Mark Zuckerberg Doesn't Want to Ban Holocaust Deniers or Sandy Hook Truthers
In a 90-minute interview with Recode‘s Kara Swisher, Zuckerberg discussed issues of censorship on the platform, including the company’s alleged conservative bias and its interference in Myanmar. When asked why he couldn’t take down content that calls Sandy Hook a fraud, Zuckerberg conceded that he believes the claim is false, but that only direct harassment against victims of the tragedy would be removed. In his justification, he likened the group to Holocaust deniers.
“I’m Jewish, and there’s a set of people who deny that the Holocaust happened,” Zuckerberg told Recode. “I find that deeply offensive. But at the end of the day, I don’t believe that our platform should take that down because I think there are things that different people get wrong. I don’t think that they’re intentionally getting it wrong.”
Elaborating on the statement, he said that it was difficult to “impugn intent and to understand the intent” and that “if you’re not trying to organize harm against someone, or attacking someone, then you can put up that content on your page.”

Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump Cost Taxpayers $250,000 in Just 1 Month For Family Business Trips

President Donald Trump’s sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump cost taxpayers about $250,000 in flights, hotels and other Secret Service protection expenses in one month for two trips abroad that included visits to Trump family businesses, documents obtained by a watchdog show.
When Trump’s sons flew to Dubai to cut the ribbon on a Trump brand golf course in February 2017, the Secret Service spent more than $200,000 to protect them, including about $125,000 on airfare, $75,000 for their hotel stays and more than $15,000 in cell phone, car service and other costs, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) revealed Wednesday based on Department of Homeland Security documents.
Also that month, Eric Trump flew to the Dominican Republic for a potential effort to relaunch a previously unfruitful Trump brand resort, and spent more than $30,000 on flights, hotels and car rentals, among other expenses, according to documents.
