Aileen Cannon, a 38 year-old lawyer with no judicial experience and limited resume, was handed a LIFETIME appointment as a federal judge just as Trump left office. Cannon's primary credentials for the job were apparently her young age and membership in the Federalist Society. 1/5

Her professional experience was so limited that she was forced to admit on her Sen Judiciary Comm questionnaire that she had never made any speeches, produced any reports, participated in any panel discussions, spoke at any conferences or written for any bar association. 2/5

In her twelve years as a lawyer, she published no writings of her own and just 3 writings done with colleagues at Gibson Dunn -- limited to promotional articles on cases handled by the firm for their own website. 3/5

In an attempt to show writing experience, Cannon listed 17 short articles from a 2-mo undergrad stint at El Nuevo Herald. ranging from "Prenatal Yoga" to "Flamenco: An Explosion of Energy and Passion." Cannon is unclear on whether she authored or simply edited the articles. 4/5

Finally, the questionnaire for a LIFETIME judicial appt asks Cannon to list all interviews she has given to the media. Cannon lists only her wedding article in a local magazine as her only media experience.(5/5)

Michael Sheen's spinetingling Wales v England World Cup speech on A League of Their Own gives viewer

Michael Sheen's spinetingling Wales v England World Cup speech on A League of Their Own gives viewers goosebumps

The iconic Welsh actor gave a rousing team talk to Rob Page's squad on the sports comedy panel show

Legendary Welsh actor Michael Sheen has left viewers in awe after belting out a stunning pre-match team talk for Wales' football team ahead of their World Cup meeting with arch-rivals England.

Sheen, who has starred in films such as Twilight and Frost/Nixon, appeared on the popular Sky sports-comedy panel show A League of Their Own on Thursday night and even showcased some of his own footballing talent, recreating his role as Brian Clough in The Damned United when asked to do a series of keepy-ups before volleying into an empty net.

The 53-year-old was a keen footballer in his youth, having been offered trials at Arsenal, which he had to turn down owing to his parents being unable to relocate to London from Port Talbot. He eventually focused on acting and the rest, as they say, is history.

But clearly still a keen follower of the game, Sheen spoke of his excitement after Wales reached the World Cup finals for the first time since 1958.

Board of State Canvassers meeting about to begin.

Board of State Canvassers meeting about to begin.

It follows court orders last night directing board to place abortion and voting rights measures on the ballot this fall after the two Republican state canvassers defied Bureau of Elections recommendation to certify measures.

Series of events:
-Challenges alleged formatting issues with petitions
-Elections bureau determined proposals collected enough signatures
-Board deadlocked along partisan lines
-Lawsuits were filed
-Michigan Supreme Court ordered board to certify
-Here we are

Republican Chair Tony Daunt kicks off meeting, says it'll be shorter than the last one when public comment lasted about 2.5 hours and canvassers heard back and forth of lawyers before deadlocking on certifying Promote the Vote and Reproductive Freedom for All proposals.

Trump pulls troopers photo from atop his social media after controversy erupts

Donald Trump removed a photo from the top of his social media page Thursday of him posing with 31 uniformed Pa. troopers after police said they did not give the former president permission to publish it.

Trump left the photo in his news feed on his social media account at “Truth Social,” a platform he launched after getting banned from Twitter that attracts his fans. But he removed it as the banner of his account sometime before 4 p.m., hours after PennLive posted a story about the controversy, and replaced it with a generic crowd photo from the rally in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania last week where the troopers were helping to provide security.

Trump’s former deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino Jr. had published the photo last week, hours after the campaign rally ended, but also removed the photo Thursday afternoon of Trump standing amid rows of troopers from his newsfeed on Truth Social. The photo was still visible on his Twitter account shortly before 5 p.m.

A police spokesman said troopers working security at the campaign rally in Wilkes-Barre agreed to a “private photo op” with the former president thinking they would get memorabilia, not plastered on social media.

About that pic of Trump with those troopers from the other day...

Here's what a police officer beaten and tased on Jan. 6 thinks about it:

"Those two or three dozen Pennsylvania state troopers, from the bottom of my heart, can go fuck all the way off."

In addition to Trump having incited the attack on the Capitol that resulted in 140 officers injured, one dead, four officer suicides, there is the fact that he's under at least three active criminal investigations.

Are PA troopers in the habit of taking photos with suspects?

“That’s unacceptable. It alienates a lot of people,” said U.S. Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn, who was beaten and subjected to racial threats during the final phase of Trump’s coup attempt. “Taking a formal picture at a rally where he’s literally attacking the FBI and the DOJ, your brothers and sisters in law enforcement, by the way … that’s a slap in the face.”

Michael Fanone, a former Washington police officer who suffered a heart attack and traumatic brain injury after being beaten and electroshocked on Jan. 6, had a more blunt assessment of the photo.

“Professionally? It’s unprofessional. It’s improper,” he said. “Personally? Those two or three dozen Pennsylvania state troopers, from the bottom of my heart, can go fuck all the way off.”

AOC's Fight for the Future

For her first two years in Washington, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez walked the few blocks from her apartment to her congressional office nearly every morning, a routine she felt forced to change after a treasonous mob stormed the Capitol. Now she drives most days—a comically short commute she considers a necessary safety precaution. But for some reason—she’s not quite sure why—the congresswoman decided to walk to work on what would become Washington’s most tumultuous morning since the insurrection.

As she reached the Capitol grounds on June 24, a group of men stopped her for a photo. “I said ‘Hello’ and ‘How are you all doing?’?” she’d later recall. “They’re like, ‘Well, you know… We’ve definitely been a lot better, given this morning.’?”

This was how the congresswoman learned that the Supreme Court had gutted the constitutional right to abortion established by Roe v. Wade. The ruling had been anticipated for weeks—after a draft opinion from the court’s conservative faction leaked—but somehow much of Washington still managed to appear blindsided. Democrats had expected to spend the afternoon celebrating the passage of a new gun control law. Now their day had morphed into a wake.

Out on the steps of the Capitol, a group of lawmakers gathered to sing “God Bless America,” a preplanned photo op that now read as hopelessly out of touch: Angry Americans were spilling into the streets and elected Democrats were singing campfire songs. Ocasio-Cortez knew where she needed to be. It wasn’t at a sing-along.
