NYPD shoots black man, immediately texts union rep while victim lies dying.

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
Friday, December 5, 2014, 2:30 AM
In the six and a half minutes after Peter Liang discharged a single bullet that struck Gurley, 28, he and his partner couldn't be reached, sources told the Daily News. And instead of calling for help for the dying man, Liang was texting his union representative.
What's more, the sources said, the pair of officers weren't supposed to be patrolling the stairways of the Pink Houses that night.

The explosive details of the immediate aftermath following the shooting of Gurley are at the center of an investigation by Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson — who is poised to present evidence to a grand jury as early as the end of this month.

HA! ....Justice Department to open civil rights investigation in Eric Garner case

The US Justice Department announced that it is opening a federal civil rights investigation into the death of Eric Garner, who was killed by a chokehold at the hands of police.

US Attorney General Eric Holder made the announcement Wednesday evening, in the wake of a grand jury decision not to indict the police officer responsible for placing Garner in a chokehold. The investigation will consider whether or not police violated Garner's civil rights.

Prosecutors will conduct an independent, thorough, and fair investigation, Holder said, including a "complete review" of material gathered during the local investigation.

Mayor de Blasio: " we tell our mixed race son about the "special care" he must take re: police"

At the exact same time today when NYC Mayor De Blasio called for calm protests, over the Eric Garner decision,
he said THIS at the same news conference:

At a news conference early Wednesday evening, the mayor said he and his wife, who is black, have spoken to their son for years
about the "special care" he must take when he meets police, who are there to protect the public.

He ADMITS the cops cannot be trusted to treat his son fairly, that they can be dangerous.

He KNOWS how widespread and serious the problem is, and has known, "for years".

Is he calling for a change in the NYPD??????
I have not heard of any.

My flabber is definitely gasted.

2014 Global Corruption Level map is out, and I am surprised where the USA stands on it.

Link, below has color coded map and also an interactive table of rankings, can be searched via several parameters.
You can click on countries on the map and see where they rank.

I AM surprised at the results...what about you?

Based on expert opinion from around the world, the Corruption Perceptions Index measures the perceived levels of public sector corruption worldwide,
and it paints an alarming picture.
Not one single country gets a perfect score and more than two-thirds score below 50, on a scale from 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean)
.

Denver Police Beat Man, Trip His Pregnant Girlfriend, Then Try to Delete the Evidence

Once again the Internet stymies the cops....

.......But police did not limit their use of force to Flores. They also tripped his girlfriend, who was almost eight months pregnant.

Luckily for Flores and his girlfriend, Frasier recorded the entire incident on his tablet. But the police took his tablet and deleted the video. At least they thought they deleted it. When Frasier got home he discovered the video file reappeared once the tablet synced with the cloud server.

Banks and hedge funds losing big time by the dropping oil prices.

Karma is a bitch re: the continuing decrease in oil prices.

Banks including Barclays and Wells Fargo are facing potentially heavy losses on an $850 million loan made to two oil and gas companies, in a sign of how the dramatic slide in the price of oil is beginning to reverberate through the wider economy.
That’s just one loan. At 60 cents on the dollar, a $340 million loss. Who knows how many similar, and bigger, loans are out there? Put together, these stories slowly seeping out of the juncture of energy and finance gives the good and willing listener an inkling of an idea of the losses being incurred throughout the global economy, and by the large financiers. There’s a bloodbath brewing in the shadows.

Meanwhile, KKR and the Carlyle Group are facing huge losses on just one of their oil producing ventures Samson Resources Corp
that they bought for for $7.2 billion in 2011, and now are seeking buyers.
The stakes are especially high for KKR, which saw a $45 billion bet on natural gas prices go sour when Texas power utility Energy Future Holdings filed for bankruptcy this year.

Bill Cosby resigns from fundraising post at alma mater

The University of Massachusetts, Amherst, is the latest American college to distance itself from embattled entertainer and alumnus Bill Cosby amid allegations the once family friendly star sexually assaulted more than a dozen women.

For decades, Cosby has been involved in higher education, sitting on advisory boards, lending his name to scholarships and donating millions to numerous institutions, especially historically black colleges.

UMass Amherst, where Cosby received a master’s and a doctorate in education, said in a statement on Wednesday that the comedian agreed to resign as the honorary co-chair of the school’s ongoing $300m fundraising campaign, the Boston Globe reported.

“He no longer has any affiliation with the campaign nor does he serve in any other capacity for the university,” said UMass spokesman Edward Blaguszewski in a statement. The day before, the university said Cosby would remain in the post, the Globe said.

Was not too long ago that organizations would not be as eager to let go of people involved in a sex abuse scandal.
Good to see such quicker responses.

Scientists Say E-Cigs Contain 10 Times As Many Cancer Chemicals As Cigarettes

Researchers commissioned by Japan's Health Ministry found carcinogens such as formaldehyde and acetaldehyde in vapour produced by several types of e-cigarette liquid, a health ministry official told AFP.
Formaldehyde -- a substance found in building materials and embalming fluids -- was present at much higher levels than carcinogens found in the smoke from regular cigarettes, the official said.

"In one brand of e-cigarette the team found more than 10 times the level of carcinogens contained in one regular cigarette," said researcher Naoki Kunugita, adding that the amount of formaldehyde detected varied through the course of analysis.

"Especially when the... wire (which vaporises the liquid) gets overheated, higher amounts of those harmful substances seemed to be produced."
