civil war on DU

Look, many of us are angry about Obama's NSA Policy. It cannot be defended, it cannot be sweetened, and yes, we need to make it clear to whoever wants to run in 2014 and 2016 that we will not tolerate this crap.

However, I have seen a lot of name calling where one side accuses people of being people who just hate Obama, and turn to the Libertarians, and the other keeps calling the other cultists.

Neither approach will help anyone but the GOP, as , yet again, we fight civil wars. We should not worship Obama, nor hate him, from get go, but sadly, both attitudes are easy to do, as many of the various forces under the democratic tent wanted either someone left of Dennis K. or to the right of Bill Clinton. But we need to get clear, not even civil, but clear, that the more we fight, the more ammo the oligarchy has.

The VRA and FLA

It is not and accident that one of the areas now freed from the VRA is Hillsborough County Florida, aka Tampa, aka the place where the GOP had their party, aka a place that has gone for Obama in last two Presidential elections.

The GOP knows that Tampa is a swing part of a swing state. It has also been under the microscope for electoral misconduct and tomfoolery long before 2000, and especially so since 2000. Read the Tampa Bay times, and the article responses bring out people who actively call for violence against democratic voters, saying they should not vote as they are liberals/yankees/whatever.

We need to vote more than ever, but even more than that, we need to be willing to focus on the swing states, like my Tampa, like Ohio, because both of them have GOP governors and Senators that want to hand victory to the Koch Brothers on a platinum platter.

Doma down, and the Civil rights butchered, same court, same week?

Ok, I do not mean to rain on the LGBT parade, nor downplay the civil rights voters, but I am confused, how can the same court do two diverse rulings in one week?

I hate being paranoid, but can this be some sort of divide and conquer power play, something to say "Hey, white LGBT, screw the minorities, join Andrew Sullivan and Glenn Greenwald over here on the right wing."

Supreme Court Voting Rights Act ruling affects five Florida counties, including Hillsborough

http://www.tampabay.com/news/politics/national/supreme-court-strikes-down-key-part-of-voting-rights-act/2128423

Oh yeah, we know the GOP never forgave Florida for 2008 and 2012. Now they can be as jackbooted as they want.
Oh, and read the comment section: The Klan is out in full force lighting Cigars and pouring Champagne.

To all those who wanted a "protest vote" thanks for nothing.

And the next person that says Sotomayor and Kagan were not liberal enough for this court can ready where THEY stood. They can also realize they may be the one wall left against full blown Dixie fascism.

A new internet, and if so, what?

This question comes as a result of an eariler thread (which sadly I do not have) where the consequences of the NSA on Hi tech were discussed. The author's point is that (and this is my paraphrase) the rest of the world will realize how much control America has over the internet, and will take steps to remedy that.

Now, I am not trying to alarm, or even rehash good vs evil, etc. It seems odd that the EU, China, or others would nor try to get a greater presence on the internet, especially as America allows foreign companies to buy old brands like Budweiser or Smithfield ham.

What I would like to start the discussion with is: what changes will the internet undergo? I see many good side: I would like to see what the EU can do with a Google counterpart, especially as they can say "we are socialist, profit be damned!" Bring together Oxford, The Sorbonne, and other great EU universities, and make a search engine that makes Bing and Google, look like crap. On the other hand, the Russians, Chinese and Iran just had exactly the excuse they need to strangle the internet. I also see the Companies could easily just drop the US side, fly the jolly roger/whatever country the libertarian put on an oil rig, and then go helter skelter. I would like to think the UN could play a role, but to be honest, the UN seems very...weak at the moment, some part of that to the US, but also due to it'sownn corruption (as the citizens of Haiti and Rwanda can tell you.)

Ideas?

isms and divisons

Now, before I say this, let me offer a clear disclaimer.

I know that many people who criticize Obama are NOT Racist. Some were against him, some got disappointed, but I realize that it is not racist to be angry at how Obama the candidiate has changed into what he is now.

However, please do keep something in mind. The ones who are racist will attempt to use this as an excuse to slam minorities and keep racism alive. I am not just talking about Ron and Rand Paul, though I do include them. All I am saying is, while I know some of you say "Gee, I guess I am a racist now" and mean it with irony, nowhere near seriousness, keep in mind that some will indeed try to turn racism into some badge of honor, and might use your words to make "a trap for fools."

seriously Canada

I apologize for being rude, but letting Harper run your country like we have is like starting to smoke two packs a day after your older brother died of lung cancer.

Racism, Criticism, and Obama

OK, let us lay some truth down, but put them where they need to be, so they are not, to quote Kipling "twisted and made a trap for fools."

Now,first off, are there many people who are sincere critics of Obama because they are holding to ideas and principles, yes, indeed, there is no reason to say most of DU does not fit into this category. There are people whose documented beliefs are here for the reading, and they did not change as some sort of evolution or fashion statement. Thank God that is true, because we need to be consistent about who we are and what we believe, and yes, we have offered way too much wiggle room in the hope that the masses would stop hating us.

Let's discuss the others:

Are there people who hated Obama from the first minute? Yes, there are.

Are some of these people taking full advantage of this moment?yes there are.

Are some of these people frothing racists? Yes

Are some of these people the sort of racist that will say "but I am not racist" but really keep thinking that Obama was too "young and under-experienced", which are often the velvet glove to cover a racist iron fist? yes.

Are some of these people, at best, opportunists that are seeking an agenda, be it Libertarian, Far Right, Far left? Yes

And does that change the fact that Obama has fucked up about the NSA, and needs to turn left now, No

and does it change the fact that, after Clinton and Obama ruled from the center-right, many of us wonder what the term Democrat really means? No.

does that change the fact that we cannot, will not, and must not be silent, Hell no.

If nothing else, we realize that nastiness is rewarded, and that is being nasty wins, we will need to be nasty.

Gov. Rick Scott signs bill to speed up executions in Florida

http://www.tampabay.com/news/publicsafety/crime/gov-rick-scott-signs-bill-to-speed-up-executions-in-florida/2126764

From the article:
"If Scott were to sign death warrants for the 13 eligible inmates, and their executions were to continue as planned, he will be on schedule to put to death 21 people since he took office in January 2011. The only other recent governor who executed that many people was former Gov. Jeb Bush, who ordered the execution of 21 convicted killers over an eight-year period."

Keep in mind, Jeb had two terms, this guy wants to do it in one.

Let's say Snowden ->IS<- a Chinese spy.

Let's also say that GG is a libertarian scum, the sort that would keep the government too weak to do much of anything, save serve Wall Street, the typical Libertarian "I got mine, so go to Hell" type we know so well.

Let's say the the GOP is desperate, and that they are using their trained dogs, the Media, to throw up scandal after scandal, a "Gish Gallop" where the actual truth does not matter, as long as you can drown your opponent in Bullshit and eat up precious time on the clock. After all,sad to say, this technique does work, as MSNBC showed when everybody whined "Obama lost the first debate OMG!" like the well trained little pundit vermin they were.

Let's say that there WERE people who frankly, were against Obama from the first second, ranging from the right wing that wanted only WASP males in charge, to some hard leftists that frankly wanted the great revolution, and were frightened that Obama would distract from the great tearing down of civilization that was needed for the new world to begin. Let's even throw in the Maureen Dowds, Arriana Huffingtons and Jane Hamshers that act all leftist, but want Obama to fail so they can finally set about doing nothing but lay rose petals at the feet of the future election of their Lady and Savior, St. Hillary, especially if she walks all over people with Jackboots!

Let us grant ALL of this. Every UNSAVORY, UGLY bit.

None of this would change the fact that Obama allowed the fourth amendment to be compromised.
NONE OF THIS..
NONE..

And frankly, that means that we have to hold O's feet to the fire, even it it burns him and us.
