Trump reportedly joked that Vice President Pence hates gays enough to "hang them all".

“Trump thinks Pence is great,” Bannon told me. But, according to a longtime associate, Trump also likes to “let Pence know who’s boss.” A staff member from Trump’s campaign recalls him mocking Pence’s religiosity. He said that, when people met with Trump after stopping by Pence’s office, Trump would ask them, “Did Mike make you pray?” Two sources also recalled Trump needling Pence about his views on abortion and homosexuality. During a meeting with a legal scholar, Trump belittled Pence’s determination to overturn Roe v. Wade. The legal scholar had said that, if the Supreme Court did so, many states would likely legalize abortion on their own. “You see?” Trump asked Pence. “You’ve wasted all this time and energy on it, and it’s not going to end abortion anyway.” When the conversation turned to gay rights, Trump motioned toward Pence and joked, “Don’t ask that guy—he wants to hang them all!”

New Orleans To Have Its First Woman Mayor

The next mayor of New Orleans, Louisiana, will be a woman, a first in the city’s nearly 300-year history.

Although the city has not yet elected its new mayor, both of the candidates to emerge from the first round of voting on Saturday are women.

The top two contenders, City Councilwoman LaToya Cantrell and former Municipal Court Judge Desiree Charbonnet, will now face each other in a runoff election on Nov. 18. (New Orleans uses a top-two “jungle primary” system in which nonpartisan elections proceed to a runoff if no candidate gets over 50 percent on the first ballot.)

Cantrell received 39 percent of the vote to Charbonnet’s 30 percent. In the field of 18 candidates, former Civil District Court Judge Michael Bagneris came in a distant third place with 19 percent.

Approaching storm may help clear smoke from Bay Area skies

Air quality throughout Bay Area may be affected “for many days to come,” officials said Sunday. But there could be hope on the horizon in the form of rain that could come later this week to the area where it’s needed most — the North Bay.

“It looks like it will be all over the Bay Area,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Rick Canepa, “There may be up to three-quarters of an inch in higher terrain, and in the North Bay we might see up to an inch of rain.”

Until then, Canepa said to expect continued clear and dry conditions a few degrees above normal, but there’s no sign that there will be any gusts of wind that would fan the firestorms.

But the Bay Area Air Quality Management District issued a Spare the Air Alert for region on Sunday, with a smoke advisory continued for Napa, Sonoma and Marin counties.

“Due to active wildfires and changing wind patterns, air quality throughout the Bay Area could be impacted for many days to come,” said a statement from the district. “Outside of the active fire areas, air quality will be variable and unpredictable.”

Ozone and smog levels may increase on Monday as high pressure builds over the region, according to the district. That means lighter winds and warm temperatures, but more particle pollution.

Sebastian Kurz: Austrian conservative set to become world's youngest leader

Austria's conservative People's Party, led by 31-year-old Sebastian Kurz, is set to win the country's general election, projections suggest.

The victory would make Mr Kurz the world's youngest national leader.

The People's Party was set to win more than 31%. It is so far unclear whether the Social Democrats or the far-right Freedom Party will finish second.

Short of a majority, Mr Kurz's party could seek an alliance with the anti-immigration Freedom Party.

Trump election fraud commission staffer arrested on child pornography charges

A man who worked on President Trump's Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity was arrested last week after police said they found child pornography on his cellphone, according to The Washington Post.

Ronald Williams II, who is from Maryland, worked as a researcher on the commission.

Williams's arrest came after police conducted a search of his home after they were tipped off by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

He is charged with 11 counts of possession and distribution of child pornography.

An administration official told the Post that Williams was fired this week, and had been on loan to the commission from the Office of Special Counsel, which is an independent government investigative and prosecutorial agency.

Tillerson: U.S. diplomacy with North Korea to continue until 'first bomb drops'

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Sunday that President Donald Trump had instructed him to continue diplomatic efforts to calm rising tensions with North Korea, saying “those diplomatic efforts will continue until the first bomb drops.”

Speaking on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Tillerson downplayed messages that President Trump had previously posted on Twitter suggesting Tillerson was wasting his time trying to negotiate with “Little Rocket Man,” a derogatory nickname Trump has coined for North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un.

Trump “has made it clear to me to continue my diplomatic efforts,” Tillerson said.

Tillerson’s comments Sunday come amid soaring tensions between the United States and North Korea following a series of weapons tests by Pyongyang and a war of words between the two countries’ leaders.
