Leaning San Francisco tower seen sinking from space

SAN FRANCISCO — Engineers in San Francisco have tunneled underground to try and understand the sinking of the 58-story Millennium Tower. Now comes an analysis from space.

The European Space Agency has released detailed data from satellite imagery that shows the skyscraper in San Francisco's financial district is continuing to sink at a steady rate — and perhaps faster than previously known.

The luxury high-rise that opened its doors in 2009 has been dubbed the Leaning Tower of San Francisco. It has sunk about 16 inches into landfill and is tilting several inches to the northwest.

A dispute over the building's construction in the seismically active city has spurred numerous lawsuits involving the developer, the city and owners of its multimillion dollar apartments.

Engineers have estimated the building is sinking at a rate of about 1-inch per year. The Sentinel-1 twin satellites show almost double that rate based on data collected from April 2015 to September 2016.

The satellite data shows the Millennium Tower sunk 40 to 45 millimeters — or 1.6 to 1.8 inches — over a recent one-year period and almost double that amount — 70 to 75 mm (2.6 to 2.9 inches) — over its 17-month observation period, said Petar Marinkovic, founder and chief scientist of PPO Labs which analyzed the satellite's radar imagery for the ESA along with Norway-based research institute Norut.

Serious voter fraud in Virginia, New Hampshire and California - so why isn't the media reporting on this? Serious bias - big problem!

We Remember: Harvey Milk Assassinated 38 Years Ago

Today, HRC honors LGBTQ civil rights hero Harvey Milk.

Milk made history when he was elected to serve as San Francisco City Supervisor in 1977, making him one of the first openly gay men elected to public office. Less than a year into his term, he was assassinated, along with Mayor George Moscone, exactly 38 years ago on November 27, 1978.

Harvey Milk dedicated his life to advocate for a better and more equitable society, not just for LGBTQ people, but for all who had been marginalized – whether it was because of their race or ethnicity, sexual orientation or gender identity, age or socioeconomic status. Milk envisioned an America where everyone received the same dignity, respect, rights, and protections.

“Hope will never be silent,” he famously stated.

The San Francisco HRC Action Center and Store in the historic Castro District is located in Milk's former camera shop. In addition to keeping LGBTQ individuals and allies informed on national issues, the action center engages advocates to push leaders at all levels in support of equality.

Today, we honor his leadership, legacy, vision and sacrifice.

Mosques warned Trump will do to Muslims what Hitler did to the Jews

Over the past week, three California mosques have received letters warning that Trump will do to Muslims "what Hitler did to the Jews," according to multiple reports.

The handwritten letters read:

To the children of Satan, You Muslims are a vile and filthy people. Your mothers are whores and your fathers are dogs. You are evil. You worship the devil. But your day of reckoning has arrived.

There’s a new sheriff in town — President Donald Trump. He’s going to cleanse America and make it shine again. And he’s going to start with you Muslims. He’s going to do to you Muslims what Hitler did to the Jews. You Muslims would be wise to pack your bags and get out of Dodge.

This is a great time for patriotic Americans. Love live President Trump and God bless the USA.

The letters were sent to two mosques in Long Beach, Claremont and San Jose, the Orange County Register reported.

The past few weeks are making me rethink my feelings about guns and the Second Amendment.

My wife is a person of color, my son is a mixed-race American and right here in safe, blue San Francisco, a Latino woman was physically assaulted by a Trump-lover at Crissy Field. In San Jose, some attached a woman and ripped her hijab off in a deserted parking lot. These incidents happened in the deepest-blue parts of a blue state and I don't need to go into what's happened elsewhere. If we are not going to have a president or Justice Department that will not have our backs, it may be time to get our own backs and do something I swore I would never do. And that is to arm myself.
