McCabe Already Gave Memos to Special Counsel

Former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe has met with special counsel Robert Mueller’s team and has turned over memos detailing interactions with President Trump, Axios reports.

“McCabe’s interview with Mueller’s prosecutors apparently included what he knows about former FBI director James Comey’s firing. The memos include corroboration by McCabe of Comey’s account of his own firing by Trump.”

“Any obstruction of justice argument would center on Trump’s firing of Comey. McCabe has signaled that he will be corroborating Comey’s account, and with contemporaneous, detailed notes.”

FEC Is Probing Whether Russia Funneled Money To NRA

The Federal Elections Commission has opened a preliminary inquiry into whether Russian individuals or entities funneled money to the National Rifle Association to boost Donald Trump’s campaign, Politico reported Friday.

The probe stems in part from a complaint filed by the American Democracy Legal Fund, a progressive advocacy group. The group’s treasurer, Brad Woodhouse, confirmed to Politico that he’d received notification from the FEC that an investigation was underway.

An NRA spokesman declined Politico’s request for comment, while the FEC said it could not confirm or deny the existence of ongoing investigations.

Per the report, if investigators find troubling information while digging through the NRA’s campaign finance records, the FEC could launch a full probe, impose fines, or even refer criminal matters to the Justice Department and Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

McClatchy has previously reported that the FBI is investigating whether Russian banker and “life member” of the NRA, Aleksandr Torshin, illegally channeled money to the NRA to help Trump’s 2016 campaign.

KEY DEFENSE: Shelley Mayer for NY-SD37 (Special Election)

I was born and raised in Westchester County by parents who instilled in me the importance of public service and its potential to create meaningful change in people’s lives and in our communities. I began my career in private practice, and transitioned to public service, first as an Assistant Attorney General, then as Chief Counsel to the New York State Senate Democrats, and currently, as the New York State Assembly member for the 90th Assembly District, here in Westchester. It is where my husband and I were happy to raise our three children.

Westchester County has always been a place of opportunity, fairness, inclusion, and home to a diverse citizenry. As a lifelong resident of Westchester with decades of experience in public service and the private sector, I pride myself on having dedicated my career to making these values work for Westchester families, protecting seniors, children and taxpayers. In my role as Chief Counsel to the NYS Senate Democrats, I fought against domestic violence and expanded protections for survivors. In the New York State Assembly, I was able to deliver record school funding. I secured critical reforms of large pharmaceutical companies to provide better tools to fight opioid abuse. And, I delivered critical reforms in the NYS Assembly.

But these values that have protected us and moved us forward as a community are under attack. Washington’s rhetoric of divisiveness is an assault on us all, and I remain as ready as ever to fight back and to lead.

Furthermore, we need a strong and united Democratic majority in the New York State Senate to improve New Yorkers’ lives and deliver on the policies we care about:

-Strongly supporting the property tax cap to protect taxpayers
-Standing up to the NRA to push stronger gun safety laws
-Delivering full funding to our schools
-Reforming outdated sexual harassment laws and defending women’s rights
-Passing tougher ethics and anti-corruption laws to clean up Albany
-Addressing climate change and persistent flooding

We know that Republicans looking to push forward the policies of this White House will do everything they can to try to take this seat. We cannot let that happen – there is simply too much at stake. We need a State Senator with the experience and integrity to effectively fight back. I’ve served in public office; I know what’s important to Westchester residents, and I know how to get things done. With your support, I look forward to representing all the communities and families of the 37th Senatorial District.

Georgia GOP pushes elimination of Sunday voting to suppress black turnout

Georgia Republicans are advancing a bill through the state legislature that would suppress African-American turnout by eliminating Sunday voting and cutting the hours that polls are open in Atlanta.

The bill, SB 363, would force polls in the majority African American city of Atlanta to close an hour earlier — 7 p.m. instead of 8 p.m. — and would eliminate early voting on the Sunday before Election Day. That Sunday is often a high-turnout day for African American voters because of Souls to the Polls events that encourage people to cast ballots early after attending church.

he proposal passed the state House Governmental Affairs Committee Wednesday with the majority Republicans voting in favor and all five Democrats, who have said the legislation is designed to suppress voter turnout, in opposition.

The text of the bill limits voting to just one weekend day before an election, but under current state law, any election with state or federal candidates must allow voting on a Saturday, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Georgia Republicans have opposed Sunday voting since at least 2014, when DeKalb County (home to Atlanta) extended early voting to include the Sunday before Election Day. One polling location that year was at a popular local shopping mall.

Maine state candidate who called Parkland student 'skinhead lesbian' drops out of race

A Republican running for the Maine state legislature is dropping out of the race following criticism for calling one of the survivors of last month’s mass shooting at a Florida high school a “skinhead lesbian.”

Leslie Gibson announced on Friday that he was ending his campaign for the Maine House of Representatives, the Portland Press Herald reported.

The former candidate said he made the decision after talking it over with friends and family, calling it “the best thing for everybody.”

“I am not walking away with my head hung low. I am walking away with my head held high,” Gibson said, according to the Press Herald.

The Maine resident had come under fire for his comments about survivors of the Parkland, Fla., school shooting.

“There is nothing about this skinhead lesbian that impresses me and there is nothing that she has to say unless you’re a frothing at the mouth moonbat,” Gibson tweeted in response to a report about Parkland student Emma González.

Leaked email: NC GOP worried about losing control of Statehouse after Pa. special election

An email leaked from the North Carolina GOP shows Republicans in the state are worried about their prospects for 2018 after the surprise results of the Pennsylvania special election this week.

In an email obtained by the Raleigh News & Observer, North Carolina GOP House Caucus political director Matt Bales warned congressional Republicans in vulnerable seats of a possible wave of Democratic support that could potentially cost the GOP its majority in the state House and Senate come the 2018 midterm elections.

Pennsylvania Democrat Conor Lamb looks poised to win what was thought to be a safe Republican district, where President Trump won by nearly 20 points in 2016.

"The outcome is yet another example of the Democratic base being fired up and the Republicans not turning out their voters," Bales said in the email. "The momentum on the Democratic side is real."

The email singled out 23 incumbent Republicans districts where Trump also won by similar margins, but that could face what many Democrats hope to be a referendum against the president.

Megyn Kelly: Fox News Had to Explain to Trump Lawyer Why It Would Be Bad if I Were Killed

Donald Trump’s feud with Megyn Kelly was way darker than any of us knew. Kelly received so many death threats and so much harassment from Trump supporters after confronting him at the first Republican debate with a challenging question about his many, many misogynistic statements that she needed a special security detail for a year.

The Trump campaign stoked the flames of the Kelly hate, the Fox News host told CNN’s Anderson Cooper in an interview on Wednesday, to the point that one of the top executives at Fox News had to explain to one of Trump’s top employees why if she “gets killed” it might be bad for their campaign.

“Michael Cohen, who is Trump's top lawyer and executive vice president with the Trump Organization had retweeted ‘let’s gut her,’ about me,” Kelly said. “At a time when the threat level was very high, which he knew. And Bill Shine, an executive vice president of Fox, called him up to say, 'You got to stop this. We understand you are angry but she's got three kids and is walking around New York.' ”

“And he didn't much care,” Kelly continued. “And what Bill Shine said to Michael Cohen was, ‘Let me put it to you in terms you can understand: If Megyn Kelly gets killed it is not going help your candidate.’ ”

Let me put this in terms you can understand. Cohen took to Twitter to call Kelly a liar and retweet people calling her a “snake” and a “psycho.”

Democratic Super PAC Will Stay Neutral In 2020 Primaries

“Anticipating an unusually crowded Democratic presidential primary in 2020, the party’s biggest super PAC is vowing to stay out of the race and focus on taking on President Trump, beginning preparations now for an election more than two and half years away,” NBC News reports.

“Priorities USA, which has spent hundreds of millions of dollars backing Democrats since forming in 2011 to promote Barack Obama’s reelection, wants to be ready to assist whomever emerges from the fray as the party’s nominee.”
