NC-SEN: Former North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory announces bid for US Senate seat in 2022

Former North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory’s career in politics is not over.

McCrory, a Republican who served one term as the state’s chief executive and 14 years as Charlotte’s mayor, has launched a campaign website announcing his run for North Carolina’s open U.S. Senate seat in 2022.

McCrory made the official announcement on his popular WBT radio show Wednesday morning. He is leaving the show.

“I’m in. I’m in. I’m going to run for the U.S. Senate because I’m simply the best for the job,” McCrory said. “Of all the candidates that are considering to run for the U.S. Senate — Republicans and Democrats — I am the best for the job, and if I wasn’t, I wouldn’t run.”

McCrory joins former U.S. Rep. Mark Walker as top-tier candidates in the Republican field to replace Richard Burr, who is not running for a fourth term in 2022. U.S. Rep. Ted Budd is considering a run, as is North Carolina native Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law of former President Donald Trump, and Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson.

Bay Area mayor Dominic Foppoli (R) refuses to resign after sex assault allegations

The mayor of Windsor, a small town in Sonoma County, is under a sheriff's investigation after five women stepped forward with allegations of sexual assault.

Five women told the San Francisco Chronicle that Dominic Foppoli, 38, assaulted them. The alleged incidents took place from 2002 to 2019 and include claims of forced oral copulation and rape, prompting the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office to open an investigation, the Chronicle reported. (SFGATE and the San Francisco Chronicle are both owned by Hearst but operate independently of one another.)

Foppoli has denied the women's claims, writing in a statement he is "completely innocent of the conduct alleged."

Calls for Foppoli's resignation have been near-unanimous in Bay Area political circles. All Sonoma County supervisors have expressed support for his removal, and eight county mayors signed a joint statement "demand[ing] Dominic Foppoli resign immediately from the Windsor Town Council and all other elected and appointed positions and roles held with special districts and regional boards."

VOTING LOCAL: Nick Ferrante for Mayor of Peachtree City (GA)

Nick is running to be the next mayor of Peachtree City, GA for many reasons but the most important one is, love. He loves this city, the foundations and ideas of its creation, the diverse community of people who live in it and the way of life it allows for its residents. Peachtree City is not only his home, but also his hometown so he understands why his neighbors are so desperate to protect this beautiful and magical place. He gets it. He gets why families came here in the first place and he recognizes that continuing down a path of unmanaged growth will further subtract from the high quality of life residents enjoy.

Nick will champion Peachtree City both to the people and businesses here today and the people and businesses we need to attract to create a more balanced tax burden that doesn’t rely on constant millage rate increases. He will work to revitalize our village centers by emphasizing the importance and allowance for businesses to thrive together rather than singularly. More than anything, Nick believes that we do this together or not at all.
