Montana Republican cites Noah of the Bible as argument against Social Security

As he gears up for a potential race against Bullock, Gianforte's support for socially conservative policies has drawn scrutiny to his record.

In a February talk at the Montana Bible College about how to find "godly purpose" in work, Gianforte explained why retirement isn't consistent with biblical teachings.

"There's nothing in the Bible that talks about retirement. And yet it's been an accepted concept in our culture today," he said. "Nowhere does it say, 'Well, he was a good and faithful servant, so he went to the beach.' It doesn't say that anywhere."

"The example I think of is Noah," he continued. "How old was Noah when he built the ark? 600. He wasn't like, cashing Social Security checks, he wasn't hanging out, he was working. So, I think we have an obligation to work. The role we have in work may change over time, but the concept of retirement is not biblical."

New "soft and cuddly" tarantula species discovered in Australia.

A previously undiscovered species of tarantula has been found in northern Australia. But don't worry, this one's soft and cuddly.

Found in late May by Sophie Harrison, a Ph.D. student at the University of Adelaide, our brown and hairy friend was discovered in the Northern Territory's Judburra Gregory National Park as part of Bush Blitz.

Bush Blitz, a project funded by the Australian government and BHP Billiton, sends scientists to under-explored regions of Australia to find new fish, bugs, spiders, reptiles, birds, and more. Since 2010, the program has found more than 900 new species, according to a BHP Billiton statement.

It's estimated only a quarter of Australia's unique plant and animal life is known to scientists.

Nevada GOP congressman: My kids ‘will not be a drain on society’ like disabled children

Rep. Cresent Hardy (R-NV) said recently at a Libertarian Party event that he hoped his children would never be a “drain on society” like people who were disabled.

In audio published this week by the Nevada State Democratic Party, Hardy can be heard speaking to attendees at the Libertarian Political Expo in Las Vegas.

“I have three children,” Hardy explains. “One of them is summa cum laude and two were magna cum laude. The other one, he didn’t need an education. He works for Raytheon, smarter than all the rest. He works hard, he builds things that are genius. Some people have that ability.”

“But they all work hard. They are raising their own families,” he continued. “They will not be a drain on society, the best they can. Hopefully they will never have some disability that causes them to have to utilize that.”

Missouri students slam curfew for women

Students at the University of Missouri-Columbia are organizing against proposed rules at the college banning female students from fraternity houses at times officials say the women are at the highest risk of sexual assault, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

In response to a spate of rapes and other attacks against women on campus, the Mizzou Fraternity Alumni Consortium drafted new rules with the goal of keeping its co-eds safe. The proposals leaked and members of sororities and fraternities alike are up in arms about policies they say are sexist and dangerous.

The first policy listed in the consortium’s “Safety of Women Students in Fraternity Houses” document stipulates that, “Women students are restricted from being guests in fraternity houses during certain high risk periods. The high risk periods are: 10:00 p.m. until 3:00 a.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights; every night during the first week of each semester (syllabus week); the night of Stop Day each semester.”

Further, the consortium requires fraternities to hire security personnel to enforce gender segregation at prescribed times — and be subject to auditing for compliance: “Student Conduct will hold all students accountable, including women students, for violating these policies and rules.”

Kirk’s OFFICE Apologizes For Senator’s Comment On Women. No mention of LGBT or African Americans

CHICAGO (AP) – U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk of Illinois apologized Thursday through a spokeswoman after being caught on a live microphone using a word that’s disparaging to women.

Kirk, who is seeking re-election in 2016, called fellow Republican senator and presidential candidate Lindsey Graham a “bro with no ho,” remarks captured on a live microphone as a U.S. Senate panel conducted a roll call vote in Washington. Graham, of South Carolina, is a lifelong bachelor who’s recently joked he could have a “rotating first lady” if elected to the White House.

“That’s what we’d say on the …” Kirk goes on to say. The rest of the sentence is muffled, but he seems to say “South Side,” a reference to a swath of heavily minority Chicago neighborhoods that stretches south of downtown.

Kirk lives in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park.

Co-Author Of Mike Huckabee Books Was Accused Of Child Molestation In Two Legal Cases

John Perry, a prolific author who co-wrote two books with former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee and co-wrote one with Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore, was accused of child molestation in two separate lawsuits, BuzzFeed News has found.

A 2012 police investigation of Perry’s alleged offenses found that “the allegations of sexual battery were sustained” but that the statute of limitations had expired.

Perry co-wrote Do the Right Thing: Inside the Movement That’s Bringing Common Sense Back to America about Huckabee’s 2008 presidential campaign. He also did research and writing for Huckabee’s 2007 book Character Is the Issue, a memoir of his early time as governor. Perry also co-wrote So Help Me God, Moore’s autobiographical account of fighting to keep a monument to the Ten Commandments at Alabama’s Supreme Court.

Those books are just a few of the titles produced with Perry’s help: He wrote For Faith & Family: Changing America by Strengthening the Family with Richard Land, the president of Southern Evangelical Seminary, a book with former Southern Baptist Convention president James T. Draper, as well as a book with Frank Page, the president and CEO of the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee. Perry even co-authored The Vow, the book made into a feature film starring Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum. Perry also lists writing two books for prominent pastor John F. MacArthur on his website.

Fox’s Keith Ablow: Kids at Texas pool party had ‘it in for police’ — and it’s Obama’s fault

Fox News psychiatrist and Medical A-Team member Dr. Keith Ablow asserted on Wednesday that President Barack Obama was at least partially to blame for a pool party in McKinney, Texas where black children were inappropriately manhandled by a police officer.

A day after Cpl. David Eric Casebolt resigned — effectively ending an investigation into a video showing him shoving a 14-year-old girl’s face into the ground — Fox News host Elisabeth Hasselbeck told Ablow that she had observed that “a new psychological shift is occurring in terms of how teens or people in the streets are reacting to police.”

“I think that some leaders in America have fractured the trust that Americans place properly — or placed properly — in authority, in police officers,” Ablow opined. “You know, when I was a kid growing up, if a police officer showed up, you were quiet, you answered questions.”

“Not so now, things have shifted, and that’s a shift encouraged by some leaders,” he continued. “I don’t think our president or our former attorney general [Eric Holder] did anything to help people out when they seemed to side with folks other than the police or, for that matter, the mayor of New York.”

Bernie sums up Diane Rehm's idiocy perfectly in this quote.

Sanders: I honestly don’t know but I have read that on the internet. You know, my dad came to this country from Poland at the age of 17 without a nickel in his pocket. He loved this country. I am, you know, I got offended a little bit by that comment, and I know it’s been on the internet. I am obviously an American citizen and I do not have any dual citizenship.

Duggars AGAIN being investigated by Arkansas DHS, police had to be called.

he Duggar family is under investigation again by the Arkansas Department of Human Services and police were called when the family refused to cooperate, In Touch magazine is reporting exclusively in its new issue that hits newsstands today.

A representative from the Washington County DHS called 911 on May 27 at around 11 a.m. asking for police assistance when DHS was not allowed to see the minor they were concerned about. In Touch, which broke the story of Josh Duggar’s sexual molestation scandal, has the full transcript of the emergency call in the new issue.

The new investigation comes as the family tries to save its TLC reality show, 19 Kids and Counting, which the network pulled off the air, while determining its fate. Jim Bob, Michelle and two of their daughters sat for interviews with Fox News, attempting to minimize the damage, but much of what they said was widely condemned as misinformation and not full disclosure.

The Duggars made no mention of the fact that they have been under investigation again, but In Touch discovered what they are hiding via another Freedom of Information Act request that produced the 911 call.

After identifying himself as a Washington Country DHS employee and stating the Duggar family address, the caller tells the 911 operator, “We have an investigation and I guess they’re not being cooperative. We have to see the child to make sure the child is all right. So we just need police assistance.”
