FL-SEN: Florida Rep. Stephanie Murphy will not challenge Rubio for Senate

Rep. Stephanie Murphy won’t run for U.S. Senate, a decision that was sealed after fellow Florida Congresswoman Val Demings recently signaled she will likely challenge incumbent Marco Rubio.

“The reality is that Marco Rubio will not be an easy opponent especially if it’s on the heels of a bruising primary where Democrats spend millions attacking each other instead of using those millions to build the infrastructure we desperately need to win,” Murphy said Monday in a written statement.

Murphy plans to seek reelection to her Orlando-area seat and will help the state party with voter registration, organizing and strengthening the grassroots.

“We’ve had too many close losses in Florida, and so I wanted to use my experience from winning tough races to help the party prepare itself,” Murphy said.

Pastor wants LGBT+ people to wear 'warning labels' on their foreheads

Viciously anti-LGBT+ televangelist and pastor Andrew Wommack has insisted that LGBT+ people should wear a “warning label” on their foreheads.

Wommack decided to discuss LGBT+ rights and the Equality Act on his “Truth and Liberty Livecast”, joined by guest and homophobic, anti-abortion activist Janet Porter of Faith2Action, a Southern Poverty Law Center-designated hate group.

While discussing the Equality Act, which would amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in housing, employment, public education, and a number of other areas, Wommack declared: “What this would do is say that gender choice and homosexuality and all these things are like civil rights, just like… ethnic.”

Porter chimed in: “Every cross-dresser within a 100 mile radius would beat a path to your door to try to get hired and when you say ‘no, I’m sorry, we’re not hiring right now’, then they’re gonna sue you.”

White House unveils plans for wind farms in the Pacific Ocean off California's coast

The Biden administration said Tuesday that it will develop offshore wind projects in the Pacific Ocean in partnership with the state of California.

The move, which is the first of its kind, is a key stepping stone toward the White House’s goal of deploying 30 gigawatts of offshore wind by 2030.

One earmarked area encompasses around 399 square miles off California’s central coast. This area is projected to support 3 GW of offshore wind. A second potential location is off the northern coast of California. In total, the administration is targeting 4.6 GW of clean energy added to the grid through these projects, which is enough to power about 1.6 million homes.

The announcement follows years of discussion between the departments of the Interior and Defense as viable locations were scouted.

“Developing offshore wind to produce clean, renewable energy could be a game changer to achieving California’s clean energy goals and addressing climate change — all while bolstering the economy and creating new jobs,” Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a statement.

In addition to the environmental benefits, the Biden administration also highlighted the economic impacts, especially when it comes to jobs.

DHS formally bans family separations for illicit border crossings

Homeland Security officials on Friday formally banned separating children from parents who are caught illegally crossing U.S. border, as part of an effort by the Biden administration to revert the effects of former President Trump's "zero tolerance" policy.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Acting Commissioner Troy Miller issued a memo to the heads of Border Patrol and CBP's Office of Field Operations prohibiting the separation of children from their parents or guardians for convictions on illegal entry to the United States, and banning the referral of parents for prosecution exclusively on the grounds of illegal entry to the country.

Miller's memo added an exception on national security grounds, allowing CBP and Border Patrol agents to refer illegal entry for prosecution with approval of higher-ranking officials and local counsel.

The guidance in Miller's memo is intended to clarify a 2018 court order that required the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to stop separating families based on illegal entry charges and to reunite families who were separated under the Trump administration's zero tolerance policy.

San Jose Shooter Was Reportedly Under Investigation At Work Over Racist Comments

The maintenance worker who fatally shot nine co-workers at a San Jose light rail yard before killing himself Wednesday was under investigation at work because colleagues had complained about his racist remarks, law enforcement authorities told KNTV in San Jose.

Most of the victims at the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority facility were people of color.

There were no details of the exact nature of the remarks reportedly attributed to Samuel Cassidy, 57, who has been identified as the shooter in the massacre. Sources told the NBC TV station that Cassidy also boasted about the firearms and explosives he owned.

Cassidy came to work the day of the shooting with a duffel bag packed with three semi-automatic handguns and 32 high-capacity magazines, The Associated Press reported. He appeared to target his victims as he fired at least 39 rounds.

Israel: Bennett agrees to form 'change government' with Lapid

amina leader Naftali Bennett agreed to forming a coalition government with Yesh Atid head Yair Lapid, N12 reported.

The two sides agreed that Bennett will serve first as prime minister until September 2023, when Lapid will take over until November 2025, according to N12. The swearing-in ceremony is expected to take place in 10 days, following an announcement of the new government either on Saturday night or Sunday.

his came following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's attack on Bennett on Friday, accusing him of rejecting a right-wing government and instead seeking to become prime minister of a "government of the Left."

In a three minute video released on social media, Netanyahu revealed that Likud and Yamina negotiators had reached what he called a far-reaching agreement, but Bennett refused to sign it. The agreement would create a coalition of 59 MKs, two less than is needed. Bennett has declined to form a minority government and urged Netanyahu to find two defectors.

Black Panther: Danai Gurira's Okoye Returning for Disney+ Spinoff Series

According to The Hollywood Reporter, not only will the Black Panther star reprise her role as Okoye in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but she is also set to appear in an unnamed origin spinoff series for Disney+. While Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler is developing a series based on the African nation of Wakanda for the House of Mouse's streamer, it is unclear if that is the drama the trade is referencing. Coogler signed a five-year deal to develop various projects for Disney.

Filming for Wakanda Forever is expected to begin in Atlanta this summer. Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett and Martin Freeman will also return for the sequel, which will build on the legacy established by the late Chadwick Boseman. Boseman starred as T'Challa in the first Black Panther film — as well as in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame — and died in August 2020 at the age of 43 due to colon cancer.

"It's going to be different, of course, without our king [Chadwick Boseman] … but I know that all of us are dedicated to reimagining or carrying on his legacy in this new Black Panther," Nyong'o said in an interview. Marvel Studios has no plans to recast the character of T'Challa and also said it will not insert Boseman using CGI and special effects.
