Romney Planned Fireworks to Celebrate Victory

Mitt Romney had planned to celebrate his election victory with an eight-minute fireworks display over Boston Harbor, the Boston Globe reports.

"A permit filed with the City of Boston said the detonation could occur any time between 7 p.m. Tuesday, just after the first polls closed, and 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, which ended up being just before Romney conceded the race."

More than 600,000 ballots in Arizona still uncounted

More than 600,000 early and provisional ballots statewide have yet to be processed and counted, Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett said Wednesday.

Of that total, nearly 460,000 votes still haven’t been counted in Maricopa County, and that’s complicating the ability to call several close races throughout Arizona.

Bennett said the uncounted ballot total was 602,334 as of Wednesday, including Maricopa County’s 344,000 uncounted early ballots and 115,000 provisional ballots yet to be verified.

State law gives the counties 10 calendar days — until Nov. 16 — to verify and process the remaining early and provisional ballots.

Markos: Romney concedes Florida

It's over. Some guy named Mitt Romney has thrown in the towel.

That's 29 electoral votes for a 332-206 victory.

Thanks, Florida, for giving us an excuse to extend the celebration yet another day!

I'm gloating and I'm enjoying EVERY moment.

I am enjoying every second of this. This must be how it feels when smokers have a cigarette after good sex. Obama didn't just win, he won BIG. I mean he won almost as big Clinton did in 1996. Best of all, I love the agony on the other side. I love watching the rant from Billo, Rush, Coulter and Nugent. All the teabaggers on Facebook and Youtube are the dessert after a great meal. This is by far, the sweetest election I'e ever been a part of.

"The billionaire donors are livid."

Many of the lightning bolts were aimed at none other than Karl Rove, the former Bush administration political genius who oversaw the deployment of nearly $400 million in campaign spending through outside groups American Crossroads and Crossroads GPS toward the presidential race and toward numerous Senate and House races.

"The billionaire donors I hear are livid," one Republican operative told The Huffington Post. "There is some holy hell to pay. Karl Rove has a lot of explaining to do … I don't know how you tell your donors that we spent $390 million and got nothing."

Rove even suffered the indignity of being insulted on Twitter by the blustery Donald Trump, who had attended Romney's election night party here on Tuesday night, but left early after it was clear that Obama had won a second term.

"Congrats to @KarlRove on blowing $400 million this cycle. Every race @CrossroadsGPS ran ads in, the Republicans lost. What a waste of money," Trump tweeted, inaccurately.

Crossroads GPS spent money in the Nevada Senate race, where Republican incumbent Sen. Dean Heller defeated Democratic challenger Shelley Berkley. The group also spent money on numerous House races.

Rove was forced to defend his group's expenditures live on Fox News on Tuesday night, and will hold a briefing with top donors on Thursday, according to Politico.

Ingham County, MI Democrats sweep local teabaggers out of office.

Wednesday, Nov. 7 — Democrats won some surprising and historic victories in Lansing and Ingham County on Tuesday.

In Delhi Township a divisive election season ended with Democrats almost sweeping the GOP of out of office – many of them considered tea partiers . In the supervisor race, Democrat C.J. Davis beat his Republican challenger, Jeff Hall, by more than 500 votes. Hall was riding a wave of success since he organized against — and helped defeat — a proposed sludge dryer and trounced Stuart Goodrich, the former Republican supervisor, in the primary.

Many Republicans crossed party lines to support Davis.

“I wasn’t the only Republican to cross the street in that election,” Lansing radio host Tim Barron said today. “There was some pretty nasty stuff floated by some of the candidates, especially toward Stuart Goodrich. I think that left a bad taste in the mouths of decent people.”

Along with Hall, Republicans Steve Dougan (who was running for treasurer), Derek Bajema (an incumbent trustee) and clerk candidate Denise Dragonetti all lost to Democrats. John Hayhoe, a Republican incumbent trustee, was the only GOP member to win a seat on the board. Jon Harmon, Megan Ketchum and DiAnne Warfield, all Dems, won the other three trustee spots.

Davis said he was “stunned” by his margin of victory. He said it was the shots coming from the Republican trenches that ticked off voters the most, which ultimately gave him the election.

“I think overall people thought there was too much fighting and too much aggression,” he said. “I think people saw me an outside influence and I know people were voting for me just so they were voting against (Hall). Delhi is not in horrible straits, we don’t have massive deficits, we’ve been smart and now we just need to continue on that path.”

Voters in Meridian Township made history this election by selecting an entirely Democratic township board. Elizabeth LeGoff won the supervisor seat by a few percentage points, Brett Dreyfus beat his opponent for the clerk’s spot by 14 percent and Julie Brixie swamped her opponent by gaining over 60 percent of the vote for the treasurer position. Voters elected Democrats, Milton Scales, incumbent John Veenstra, Angela Wilson and Don Styka to the four trustee positions.

Dreyfus is the first Democrat to take the township clerk position in 40 years, he said.

Romney's donors and bundlers are NOT in a happy place.

BOSTON — Advisers to Mitt Romney insisted Wednesday that they were surprised by the scale of their loss to President Barack Obama, while big-time GOP donors griped about the campaign’s unflinching confidence in the final stretch.

As results began to stream in Tuesday night, prominent Romney supporters in Boston tried to stay positive, reassuring themselves that there was still a path to the White House. But dejection quickly turned to anger a day after an Electoral College rout that shocked many who had heard self-assured projections about voter enthusiasm and turnout in private conference calls and meetings in the campaign’s final stretch.

“They ran a 20th century campaign in the 21st century,” said one Romney bundler, frustrated that the campaign made assumptions about the youth vote and voter intensity that didn’t pan out. “The anger is that they were entrusted to do certain things. It’s not like they were paid a $5,000 retainer to get a few dozen articles in an inside-the-Beltway paper. This is the major leagues.”

Another Republican outside the Romney campaign but privy to its thinking described the defeat as a complete pummeling, with Senate losses adding salt to the wound.

Beck said: "I don't know how my industry is going to survive… I won't make a deal with the devil... Your religion is going to come under attack... Get the hell out of the east... Get your kids out of the schools that are indoctrinating them... May I highly suggest you get grandfathered into the Second Amendment today and don't forget the ammunition."

Florida Voters Defeat Anti-Abortion Measure

lorida's Amendment 6, which would have banned state funding for abortions, was defeated in Tuesday's election. The Associated Press and Orlando Sentinel reported the amendment did not come close to the 60 percent needed to pass, getting only 45 percent support.

Had it passed, the law would have also allowed the state to implement tighter parental-consent laws. According to the AP, the state already provided no funding for abortions.
