Stacey Abram's unforced error - Georgia is not the worst state

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/gop-seizes-on-stacey-abrams-calling-georgia-worst-state-disqualify-her/ar-AAXCUOe?ocid=uxbndlbing

"I am tired of hearing about how we're the best state in the country to do business when we are the worst state in the country to live," she said. "Let me contextualize. When you're number 48 for mental health, when we're number one for maternal mortality, when you have an incarceration rate that is on the rise and wages are on the decline, then you are not the number one place to live," she said.

That state would be Mississippi or Louisiana actually. Georgia has its problems, but it has a brighter future than those two states as an example.

Couldn't she have qualified her statement a bit more? It has become red meat for the GOP and a rallying cry.

Does somebody have more information on this quote (perhaps a full transcript)? I don't see her making an error like this normally.

Oakland Teen Saves Pearl Jam Concert After Drummer Gets COVID-19: 'Kai Neukermans from Local Band

https://www.msn.com/en-us/music/news/oakland-teen-saves-pearl-jam-concert-after-drummer-gets-covid-19-kai-neukermans-from-local-band-the-alive/ar-AAXiH1H?ocid=entnewsntp&cvid=e67bb63ffcf1449a9a9d3ff8ee261afa

After learning that Pearl Jam's drummer Matt Cameron tested positive for COVID-19, a local 18-year-old drummer decided to take matters into his own hands by volunteering to join the band at the Oakland Arena on Friday night.

"Everybody, this is Kai; Kai, this is everybody!" Eddie Vedder introduced the high school student to the crowd from the clip the band posted on YouTube.

Kai Neukermans of Mill Valley already plays for his band The Alive, consisting of his 14-year-old brother, who plays bass, and their friend Bastian Evans, 17, who helms the group's guitar and vocals.

I wonder if bands should maintain lists of local musicians that they could call if one of their members can't make the concert. Another possibility is to use the musician from the warm up band they are touring with. So long as it is for unavoidable situations and not a regular occurrence. Also it would be extremely difficult to replace Vedder or any other front man.

Still a dream come true. It is like when the NHL uses a local player to play goalie in an emergency.

The Delaware State bus stop by Liberty County was unconstitutional

Another poster pointed out the lane restriction is for trucks. The law specifically excludes buses. 40-6-52 - Trucks using multilane highways - "As used in this Code section, the term "truck" means any vehicle equipped with more than six wheels, except buses and motorcoaches." The pretextual stop was unconstitutional to begin with so running the probable cause on four legs around the bus was also unconsitutional. I think those students have quite a strong case - maybe they will own the county after this is done. Somebody needs to be asking the sheriff this question. That other bus they searched that day also has a case.

DSU, state leaders 'incensed' after team bus stopped, searched in Georgia

https://www.yahoo.com/news/dsu-state-leaders-incensed-team-090130195.html

I am not sure how this is constitutional? They removed bags to allow a drug sniffing dog to examine them? They opened a sealed present with no evidence of drugs and without a warrant?

All this for a pretextual driving in the left lane. It is a BS violation of the 4th amendment.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

George Perez, beloved superhero comic book artist, dies at 67

Some tremendous art on Wolfman's Teen Titans run. Also Crisis. 67 is way too young to die. RIP to his family and friends.

Thank you for the exciting and beautiful art. You made Wolfman's story come alive. Made my college years a blast.

"A comic book legend is gone. Five months after publicly announcing his terminal cancer diagnosis, artist and writer George Pérez — who redefined the Teen Titans, created the first great superhero crossover event, and influenced countless other artists — has died, his friends and family confirmed on social media Saturday. He was 67 years old."

The House should pass it immediately.

Senate should work towards a filibuster carve out for it.

You can't teach about slavery by bringing a cotton plant to class?

Our world has gone truly insane. This is the kind of crap that gets demagogues like Trump elected.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/san-francisco-teacher-under-fire-160732856.html

A Creative Arts parent, Rebecca Archer, who is Black and Jewish, was concerned about the lesson for her mixed-race children. She expressed fears that the lesson, which put the raw cotton in the children’s hands, could “evoke so many deeply hurtful things about this country.”

“There are people who think this lesson plan promotes empathy; I’ve heard that and understand that,” said Archer. “There are a lot of people who don’t understand why it’s hurtful or offensive.”

Another parent told The Chronicle they felt the teacher was being treated in a way that she called “unbearably cruel.” The parent, who chose to remain anonymous, said that her child considers the teacher one of his favorites.

“I think it’s insane they would treat a teacher like this and basically discard a teacher that has been so inspiring and dedicated,” said the parent, who requested anonymity to protect her child. “It feels like it was a lesson in sensitivity and empathy. That’s why my mind is so blown, and I can’t stop being angry about it.”

Question about the NFL non-exclusive franchise tag

In terms of using the non-exclusive tag for either Jackson or Murray, what prevents a team from structuring their 1st round picks to minimize value for the Ravens or Cards? For example would a team structure their draft picks to give up the 31st and 32nd pick two years from now or some equivalent downgrading of their first round draft picks. Like trading their 2023 (or 20245 in Murray's case) 1st round draft pick and change to a good team for their 2024 (2025) and 2025 (2026) 1st round draft picks? Then give those picks up if the Ravens or Cards don't match the offer? In essense you are giving up a 1st round draft pick for a quality starting QB, even with the high salary, that is a great deal when you look at watch Wilson and Watson fetched.
