Let me say this - Choosing between O'Malley and Sanders

Is an embarrassment of riches. I haven't seen two better people run for President in my lifetime.

Neither of them mince words, and say what needs to be said. Bernie called Charleston on the racist motivation that it was. O'Malley steps up to the plate, too, but hasn't gotten enough airplay, imho.

These are two fantastic people that could lead our country into a future that isn't owned by crony capitalism.

I still lean Bernie, though, because he has had 40 years to be the wealthy insider on the Senate and still held firm principles. He is exactly as financially prosperous as he was before he was elected.

He didn't take bribes, use insider information, and hip check corporations in exchange for votes.

That alone should make him noteworthy and refreshingly honest.

O'Malley is genuine as well, and I like him. I don't have as much information on him, but I am mightily encouraged by his stances. He served the state of Maryland well by all accounts as its Executive, and that experience speaks toward his leadership.

Nearly 400,000 Homeland Security Employees May Have Had Private Data Compromised

This is completely independent from the OPM Hack.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/06/15/homeland-security-data-breach_n_7589932.html

WASHINGTON (AP) — As many as 390,000 current and former Homeland Security Department employees, contractors and job applicants may have had their private data compromised in a newly disclosed computer hack discovered last year.

DHS spokesman S.Y. Lee said internal notices about the data breach discovered in September at KeyPoint Government Solutions Inc. were sent to employees starting April 27. The KeyPoint hack is separate from the hacks of the Office of Personnel Management attacks disclosed earlier this month.

Lee said the hack is a separate breach than one involving the same government contractor that was disclosed by the government in December.

The latest disclosure comes amid an ongoing investigation of a massive hack of government files held by OPM. The records of as many as 14 million current and former civilian government employees may have been compromised.

‘Collective Panic’ Spreads Among Federal Employees Over OPM Hack

http://www.buzzfeed.com/sheerafrenkel/federal-employees-describe-collective-panic-after-massive-ha#.doydbwgwQr

One of these anonymous individuals was a homosexual diplomat who works in the Arab world, and now has doubts it will be safe to continue on that career path, since the hackers will know he recently married his same-sex spouse, and such things are viewed dimly in the countries where he has been working.

That is just one of many examples of how sensitive information from the compromised security-clearance applications — which run to 117 pages in length apiece, not including additional supporting documentation and computer files — could be used to raise all kinds of hell for Americans abroad. Another example, reported by Business Insider, concerns a retired military man who disclosed a 20-year affair in his security clearance application. These files are chock-a-block with juicy blackmail information.

That is assuming petty crime is the goal of this immense and sophisticated hacking operation. There is currently little evidence of such motivations, which is interesting, because the pilfered data would have been worth millions on the black market if sold quickly. Identity theft is a time-sensitive operation. It is important to act before the victims realize their Social Security numbers, credit card numbers, passwords, etc. have been compromised, and take remedial action.

Remember, the data breach actually happened near the end of last year — it was discovered, apparently by accident, in April, and not disclosed to the millions of victims until now. In previous identity-theft hacking operations, such as the big scores pulled off by Russian gangs over the past few years, the stolen data was sold on black-market websites while it was still fresh. That is one of the ways security investigators learned the extent of the crimes – they monitor shadowy criminal data markets carefully. The gang that pulled off the biggest data heist in history does not seem interested in making a few bucks by selling off their wares, or by using the data themselves for financial crime.

Hack of OPM reportedly exposed second set of much more sensitive data

The hackers who breached the US Office of Personnel Management accessed a second set of even more highly sensitive data, it was widely reported Friday, in revelations that make the breach one of the biggest thefts of data on federal workers.

Investigators probing the compromise have "a high degree of confidence that OPM systems containing information related to the background investigations of current, former, and prospective federal government employees, and those for whom a federal background investigation was conducted, may have been exfiltrated," Samuel Schumach, a spokesman for the personnel agency, said in a statement to Bloomberg News Friday. The second set of data files likely included highly sensitive information from forms filled out by people applying for jobs that require security clearances.

The 127-page questionnaires ask about criminal and arrest records, mental illnesses, drug and alcohol problems, and financial data for the applicant and often family members, friends and acquaintances. Previously, Bloomberg and other news organizations said such records had been breached, but White House officials declined to confirm the theft.

But, of course, it's all Snowden's fault.

This hack went on for nearly a YEAR and they didn't catch it. Snowden is a drop in the bucket compared to this.

Officials: Second hack exposed military and intel data

http://news.yahoo.com/union-says-federal-workers-fell-victim-hackers-071851098--politics.html

WASHINGTON (AP) — Hackers linked to China have gained access to the sensitive background information submitted by intelligence and military personnel for security clearances, U.S. officials said Friday, describing a cyberbreach of federal records dramatically worse than first acknowledged.

The forms authorities believed may have been stolen en masse, known as Standard Form 86, require applicants to fill out deeply personal information about mental illnesses, drug and alcohol use, past arrests and bankruptcies. They also require the listing of contacts and relatives, potentially exposing any foreign relatives of U.S. intelligence employees to coercion. Both the applicant's Social Security number and that of his or her cohabitant is required.

"In a statement, the White House said that on June 8, investigators concluded there was "a high degree of confidence that ... systems containing information related to the background investigations of current, former and prospective federal government employees, and those for whom a federal background investigation was conducted, may have been exfiltrated."

"This tells the Chinese the identities of almost everybody who has got a United States security clearance," said Joel Brenner, a former top U.S. counterintelligence official. "That makes it very hard for any of those people to function as an intelligence officer. The database also tells the Chinese an enormous amount of information about almost everyone with a security clearance. That's a gold mine. It helps you approach and recruit spies.

More at the link. Personally, I find it hilariously convenient that they are now fear mongering that China and Russia cracked the encryption on Snowden's files, but this wasn't mentioned until 7:30pm last night.

I freaking DREAMED of smoking a cigarette last night

When will that go away? I've been off them for 3 months and using the gum and e-cigs.

It was so *REAL* that rush you get when you really need a smoke and inhale it.

Note: I'm not going back and I haven't actually smoked, I just dreamed of smoking.

Reality is that I don't stink, have much better health and just ecigs are alot easier to manage than the filthy cigarette habit. But for one stupid second it invaded my dreams LOL.

Happened to anyone else?

"The beatings will continue until

the morale improves."

That's how it seems on DU lately to me, and we can do better than this.

Hey, we have 4 great Democrats to vote for - no reason to get ugly at fellow Democrats that prefer someone other than your own candidate.

If you want to feel angry and disheartened, look at what the Republican party is running. We should be thankful that we aren't running a stable of freaking nutjobs.
