People want to donate diapers and toys to children at Border Patrol facilities in Texas.....

People want to donate diapers and toys to children at Border Patrol facilities in Texas. They're being turned away.

A Border Patrol official told a state lawmaker that the agency doesn't accept donations for facilities where children are reportedly being held in substandard conditions.

BY ALEX SAMUELS JUNE 24,

On Sunday, Austin Savage and five of his friends huddled into an SUV and went to an El Paso Target, loading up on diapers, wipes, soaps and toys.

About $340 later, the group headed to a Border Patrol facility holding migrant children in nearby Clint with the goal of donating their goods. Savage said he and his friends had read an article from The New York Times detailing chaos, sickness and filth in the overcrowded facility, and they wanted to help.
***************************
A slew of other sympathetic people, advocacy groups and lawmakers on both sides of the political aisle have expressed a desire to lend a hand to the kids housed in the facilities. But after purchasing items like toys, soap, toothbrushes, diapers and medicine — especially as news reports circulate of facilities having drinking water that tastes like bleach and sick children without enough clothing — they’ve been met with a common message: No donations are being accepted.

Would a pawn shop give me more money if I pawn my tablet instead of selling it to them?

I don't know much about how stuff like this works and I need as much as I can get. Anyone know much about how this works?

The U.S. government has removed most of the children from a remote Border Patrol station in Texas following reports that more than 300 kids were detained there and caring for each other with inadequate food, water, and sanitation.

****

Attorneys who visited the station in Clint, Texas last week said older children were trying to take care of infants and toddlers, The Associated Press first reported Thursday. Some had been detained for three weeks, and 15 children were sick with the flu.

It’s unclear where all the children have been moved. But Escobar said some were sent to another facility in El Paso.

The headquarters of the Michigan Republican Party, headed by a former Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent, was reportedly vandalized this weekend with the message "F--- Ice" painted on the side of the building.

Party officials found the graffiti Saturday and reported it to police, party communications director Tony Zammit told MLive.

The party said the vandalism was aimed at state GOP chair Laura Cox, a former ICE agent.

Pelosi Statement on Border Supplemental Bill to Provide Humanitarian Assistance for Children, Families at the Border

JUNE 23, 2019

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on the introduction of a strong border supplemental bill, which provides robust funding to relieve the humanitarian situation at the border and does not fund the Administration’s failed policy of mass detention:

“This week, the House will advance strong border legislation, which protects vulnerable children and keeps America safe as it honors our values. Congress continues to insist that families belong together and for immigrant communities to know their rights.

“We salute Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard and all the appropriators for their relentless, good-faith work to address the heartbreaking and urgent humanitarian situation at our southwest border.

House Oversight Committee to vote on authorizing subpoena for Kellyanne Conway

The House Oversight Committee will vote on whether to authorize a subpoena for White House counselor Kellyanne Conway over a government watchdog’s finding that she violated the Hatch Act.

On Wednesday, the House panel “will hold a hearing to examine the recommendation of the independent Office of Special Counsel (OSC) that President Trump remove Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway from federal service, as well as reports by OSC about Ms. Conway and other Trump Administration appointees,” the committee said in a memo.

“The Committee also will hold a business meeting to consider a subpoena in the event that Ms. Conway does not appear,” the committee memo adds.

Overcrowding, abuse seen at Mexico migrant detention center

Remember how Orangey said in a tweet that Mexico was doing a great job? Wonder if this is where his administration got the idea about not supplying soap and toothpaste?

TAPACHULA, Mexico — The 36-year-old Cuban mechanic's eyes glazed over as he recalled his time at the Siglo XXI holding facility: 50 people sleeping in 3-by-4-yard pens, feces overflowing the latrines, food and water always scarce.

Women slept in hallways or in the dining hall among rats, cockroaches and pigeon droppings, as children wailed, mothers reused diapers and guards treated everyone with contempt.
