upaloopa's JournalIdealism vs Pragmatism - I think that much
of what we argue about (discuss) here centers on this.
If Hillary wins idealists will be forced to vote for a pragmatist. If Bernie wins pragmatists will be forced to vote for an idealist.
This isn't everything in a nut shell but it is a big part of what is going on in the backs of our minds I think. I know it is always on my mind.
I am a pragmatist and being forced to vote for an idealist scares the shit out of me.
Half of the country leans or is right wing. So I'd say they will not vote for either a Dem pragmatist or idealist. That means we must depend on independents to win if we Dem's vote for our nominee no matter what her/his political thinking is.
In my mind it boils down to whether independents will vote for an idealist or not. I think not.
Shell abandons Alaska Arctic drilling
Source: The Guardian
Shell has abandoned its controversial drilling operations in the Alaskan Arctic in the face of mounting opposition in what jubilant environmentalists described as an unmitigated defeat for big oil.
The Anglo-Dutch company had repeatedly stressed the enormous hydrocarbon potential of the far north region in public, but in private began to admit it had been surprised by the popular opposition it faced.
Shell said today it had made a marginal discovery of oil and gas with its summer exploration in the Chukchi Sea but not enough to continue to the search for the foreseeable future.
Shell has spent over $7bn (£4.6bn) on its failed hunt for oil which critics said could only endanger one of the worlds last pristine environments and produce expensive hydrocarbons that were no longer needed.

This is great news. Chalk one up for Green Peace
The enemy of my enemy is my friend
By using repub scandals to support your candidate makes the repubs your friends.
Why do dirty work when they will do it for you.
Hillary supporters don't have anything like these.
On Twitter, Bernie Sanders's supporters are becoming one of his biggest problems

Bernie Sanders is great, but some of his most vocal supporters are becoming a problem

Are Bernie Sanders Supporters His Biggest Problem?

I can't honestly see a reason why Hillary would need to
attack Sanders. Biden isn't even running and his support is equal to Sanders. I don't think he will run and his support comes at the expense of Hillary. Without polls giving Biden a chunk of her support she is over 50% and will continue to lead as she has done since the beginning of the campaign.
Sanders support has been around 25% for months. I think he has peaked.
Hillary gets nothing but negative press. That isn't because the MSM thinks Bernie should be President. It is because they want a horse race with whom ever is driving the clown car. There is no horse race between Bernie and Hillary which is the reason she doesn't need to nor will she attack him.
Every year at this time I begin working on a HUD homeless grant. I doubt anyone knows about the
grants unless you work with them or the homeless. I thought it might be interesting to read HUD's description and reason for the grant.
Here it is from an email I get, there is no link I can post:
Description
This Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) establishes the funding criteria for the FY 2015 Continuum of Care (CoC) Program. HUD is making available approximately $1.89 billion in Fiscal Year 2015 for the CoC Program. The CoC Program is designed to promote a community-wide commitment to the goal of ending homelessness; to provide funding for efforts by nonprofit providers, States, and local governments to quickly re-house homeless individuals and families while minimizing the trauma and dislocation caused to homeless individuals, families, and communities by homelessness; to promote access to and effective utilization of mainstream programs by homeless individuals and families; and to optimize self-sufficiency among individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
Hillary Clinton is Still the Candidate to Beat
The headlines screaming Clintons Support Erodes are true, but only in a relative sense. In the contest for the Democratic nomination, according to the polls, she has slid all the way from prohibitive favorite to something like strong favorite not bad, given the way she has hobbled herself with the e-mail scandal.
A new Post-ABC News poll gives a clear view of Clintons status. Among registered voters who are Democrats or lean toward that party, Clinton is at 42 percent while Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont is at 24 percent and Vice President Joe Biden at 21 percent. Since July, according to the poll, Clintons support has fallen 21 points. So yes, her campaign has reason to be concerned. But not alarmed.
