Russian State Media Is Desperately Trying to Keep the Hunter Biden Story Alive

Source: daily beast

‘OUR CANDIDATE STILL HAS A CHANCE’

With Trump behind in the polls, Russian state media is throwing caution to the wind and making increasingly blatant attempts to interfere in the U.S. election.

Published Oct. 22, 2020 4:58AM ET

The “October Surprise” unleashed by President Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani has turned out to be a dud of epic proportions—so sketchy that the author of the New York Post’s article reportedly refused to add his name to the byline. Despite glaring credibility issues, Giuliani argued the story should be widely disseminated. “Even if it isn’t accurate, the American people are entitled to know it,” he said.

The Trump administration’s trusty bedfellows at the Kremlin apparently adhere to the same philosophy. Russian state media outlets are going overboard to promote and legitimize the Hunter Biden allegations. Their desire to see Donald J. Trump re-elected is unwavering.

It seems their increasingly overt support for Trump is motivated by fear. 60 Minutes, which is broadcast on Russia’s most prominent state media channel Rossiya-1, reported that Trump is trailing behind Joe Biden in the polls and “will most likely lose the election.” They played the clip of the American president threatening to leave the country in the event he isn’t re-elected. “To Moscow, he’ll come to Moscow,” sniped co-host Olga Skabeeva. Tuning in from the United States, correspondent Denis Davydov weighed in: “Will the agent return to Moscow? Most likely not.”

AP finds most arrested in protests aren’t leftist radicals

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump portrays the hundreds of people arrested nationwide in protests against racial injustice as violent urban left-wing radicals. But an Associated Press review of thousands of pages of court documents tells a different story.

Very few of those charged appear to be affiliated with highly organized extremist groups, and many are young suburban adults from the very neighborhoods Trump vows to protect from the violence in his reelection push to win support from the suburbs.

Attorney General William Barr has urged his prosecutors to bring federal charges on protesters who cause violence and has suggested that rarely used sedition charges could apply. And the Department of Justice has pushed for detention even as prisons across the U.S. were releasing high-risk inmates because of COVID-19 and prosecutors had been told to consider the risks of incarceration during a pandemic when seeking detention.

Defense attorneys and civil rights activists are questioning why the Department of Justice has taken on cases to begin with. They say most belong in state court
, where defendants typically get much lighter sentences. And they argue federal authorities appear to be cracking down on protesters in an effort to stymie demonstrations.
More Stories:

– Barr able to put his stamp on executive power as Trump's AG
– Justice Dept.: Sedition charge may apply to protest violence
– Trump, social media, right-wing news stir up antifa scares

“It is highly unusual, and without precedent in recent American history,” said Ron Kuby, a longtime attorney who isn’t involved in the cases but has represented scores of clients over the years in protest-related incidents. “Almost all of the conduct that’s being charged is conduct that, when it occurs, is prosecuted at the state and local level.”

In one case in Utah, where a police car was burned, federal prosecutors had to defend why they were bringing arson charges in federal court. They said it was appropriate because the patrol car was used in interstate commerce. ......................................................

Betty Buckley To Trump: Stop Using My Music 'Your Presidency Is The Very Antithesis Of Art'

Betty Buckley To Trump: Stop Using My Music ‘Your Presidency Is The Very Antithesis Of Art’

October 21, 2020ByRandy Slovacek

Do not mess with Broadway legend Betty Buckley.

She. Will. Call. You. Out.

Buckley, a proud Texas Democrat, became aware that the Trump campaign has been playing the recording of her Tony Award-winning performance of “Memory” from CATS at the Donald’s rallies.

Months ago, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber sent a cease-and-desist letter to the Trump campaign asking that his music not be played at the events, but was clearly ignored.

And so, the mighty Ms. Buckley has now fired off an open letter to the Trump/Pence campaign demanding they cease and desist using her music.

“We must insist that you stop this misappropriation of music and performance that has nothing to do with the representation of your regime. Your presidency, completely devoid of empathy or humanity, is the very antithesis of art.”

She goes on to note his “disastrous mishandling of the pandemic” which is responsible for closing down Broadway and theaters across the country as well as his “super spreader events” which are “undoubtedly exacerbating the problem.”

Buckley also underscores the many artists who, like her, have asked that their music not be associated with Trump’s “deplorable mendacity and ill behavior.” Among those musicians are Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, Phil Collins and many more.

The star closes her epic takedown writing, “The good news is that we, the voters, have the ultimate say. We will reject you at the polls, and by January the utter hell of your presidency, your criminal enablers and regime will be nothing more than a (wait for it) memory.”
.......................

In a statement, Buckley shared:
........................................

“These children, their teachers and families did these recordings from their homes. Over 200 people have participated in creating this project. If this music and the images in this video touch one person, ten or one hundred, it will have been worth it.”

Watch and listen to Buckley’s hymns for humanity below. #Bravo

The Iowa Supreme Court delivered another win for Republicans seeking to restrict voting.

The court upheld a Republican-backed law that could prevent election officials from sending thousands of mail-in ballots to voters who had information omitted from their absentee ballot applications. The law, passed after a record number of voters turned out during the primaries, casting mail-in ballots as the pandemic surged.

Auditors will not be allowed to fix minor errors in the applications for absentee ballots using Iowa’s voter registration system, as they have done in past elections. Instead, the auditors will have to call or email voters one at a time to obtain any missing information – which will be tedious and time-consuming.

Voters applying for absentee ballots in Iowa have to provide their driver’s license number or a voter pin number.

Clean up, Aisle 1600: White House says Trump didn’t really mean that thing about declassifying Russia documents

For the better part of five years now, President Trump’s allies have been put in the unenviable position of arguing that the things he says shouldn’t be taken literally — that the word of the candidate and then president shouldn’t be taken at face value because, well, sometimes he just says things. It’s a thoroughly convenient stance that allows them to believe and defend the things they want to while discounting virtually anything that’s inconvenient.

But on Tuesday, we got one of the most remarkable episodes in this saga to date: The top aide to Trump assured a court of law that what the president had said on Twitter wasn’t, in fact, what he meant and had virtually no real impact on what the U.S. government does.

In a sworn court filing Tuesday
, White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows downplayed Trump’s recent tweet declaring that he had authorized the declassification of all related to the Russia investigation.

Trump on Oct. 6 made waves by writing: “I have fully authorized the total Declassification of any & all documents pertaining to the single greatest political CRIME in American History, the Russia Hoax. Likewise, the Hillary Clinton Email Scandal. No redactions!”

The tweet instantly set off intrigue. Whatever Trump might have thought he was declassifying when it came to the supposed law enforcement “coup” against him, or Clinton’s emails, his tweet would also mean he had declassified items that might not reflect so well upon him. What about the redacted portions of special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s report? What about the evidence that was collected against him over the course of the Russia investigation that preceded it? Trump had seemingly opened himself up to a minefield of information that could suddenly be available to the public — on the eve of the election, no less.

Alas, as the president’s aides have held many times before, Meadows said Trump was effectively just spouting off.........

Hillary Clinton Shares Chilling Warning From 4 Years Ago: ‘Speech For Everything’
The former Democratic candidate recalled her ominous prediction from 2016 to slam Donald Trump.

President Donald Trump may have a tweet for everything.

Hillary Clinton, however, used a whole speech to remind Americans of what she’d warned a Trump presidency would entail.

The former secretary of state on Tuesday slammed Trump for his coronavirus pandemic failings with lines from an address she gave in Ohio some five months before she won the popular vote, but lost the electoral college, in the 2016 election.

“In my case, there’s a whole speech for everything,” Clinton tweeted:
