House Democrat moves to force vote on censuring Marjorie Taylor Greene

First-term Democratic Rep. Becca Balint (Vt.) made a move to force a vote on her resolution to censure Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) over the firebrand Georgia congresswoman’s many controversial comments — and in part as a response to Greene’s move to force a vote to censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.).
Balint’s move Thursday on the privileged resolution gives the House two legislative days to consider the measure on the House floor. The chamber returns Wednesday.
The resolution, first introduced in July, is a laundry list of around 40 points of grievance against Greene, many of which list her specific comments and the dates on which she said them — with Greene’s showing images of Hunter Biden in a House hearing being the most recent.
After making the move on the House floor Thursday, an impassioned Balint railed against newly minted Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Greene, who earlier in the day also brought up a privileged motion to force a vote on censuring Tlaib over accusations of “antisemitic activity” and “sympathizing with terrorist organizations.”...........

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has a history of harsh anti-gay language from his time as an attorney for a socially conservative legal group in the mid-2000s.
In editorials that ran in his local Shreveport, Louisiana, paper, The Times, Johnson called homosexuality a “inherently unnatural” and “dangerous lifestyle” that would lead to legalized pedophilia and possibly even destroy “the entire democratic system.”
And, in another editorial, he wrote, “Your race, creed, and sex are what you are, while homosexuality and cross-dressing are things you do,” he wrote. “This is a free country, but we don’t give special protections for every person’s bizarre choices.”
At the time, Johnson was an attorney and spokesman for Alliance Defense Fund, known today as Alliance Defending Freedom, where he also authored his opposition to the Supreme Court ruling in Lawrence v. Texas – which overturned state laws that criminalized homosexual activity between consenting adults.

New York Republicans to push ahead with resolution to expel George Santos from House

Santos' New York House colleagues announced a measure last week to boot him from Congress, after federal prosecutors added new charges and allegations to a federal indictment that accuses Santos of committing fraud and conspiracy.
The New York Republicans said they expect to move ahead with the measure as early as this week.
Santos faces an arraignment court proceeding on the newest charges Friday morning at the federal courthouse in Central Islip, New York.
The expulsion resolution was announced last week by two of Santos' fellow Long Island Republicans, Reps. Anthony D'Esposito and Nick Lalota. D'Esposito said he expected the measure would catch on "like wildfire" among fellow House members, in light of the newest allegations.
On Oct. 10, the Justice Department announced the new federal charges against the congressman. Prosecutors said Santos is being charged with identity theft, making charges on his own donors' credit cards without their authorization, "lying to the FEC and, by extension, the public about the financial state of his campaign." Santos allegedly "falsely inflated the campaign's reported receipts with nonexistent loans and contributions that were either fabricated or stolen," prosecutors said..............................................................
