Amid the drone of protest chants, Kyle Rittenhouse spoke about his personal experience shooting and killing two people at a 2020 protest, while at a student sponsored event on Western Kentucky University’s campus Wednesday.

The WKU local chapter of the rightwing organization Turning Point USA invited Rittenhouse to speak on the Second Amendment and the “lies of [Black Lives Matter],” according to a website ticketing the event. His visit followed less than a week after Rittenhouse left the stage in Memphis amid questions from protesters at another university speaking event.

Rittenhouse spoke for roughly 20 minutes recounting the story of how he killed two people and wounded a third at the Black Lives Matter Protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He was later acquitted of crimes related to the shootings.

“I have a right to share my story,” he told the crowd during the question and answer session that followed. Both supporters and detractors asked Rittenhouse questions.

Several hundred protesters gathered outside before and during the event, at times drowning out Rittenhouse’s voice. WKU student Malick Diallo said he attended because he stands against the values Rittenhouse represents. “We all feel angered that WKU is facilitating a space for Turning Point USA to bring in a man who not only propagates violence and vigilantism and promotes the idea of white supremacy,” Diallo said. ..........

Ted Cruz wants taxpayers to fund airport escorts for top officials like him

Thursday, March 28, 2024 at 8:30:06a CDT

Sen. Ted “Cancun” Cruz is closer to enacting an airport security amendment that would allow top federal officials like him to apply for a dedicated security escort at commercial airports. Cruz added the amendment to the Senate bill that would fund the Federal Aviation Administration through 2028, telling Politico back in February that there are “serious security threats facing public officials.”

The Texas senator was busted by a fellow traveler when jetting off to Cancun, Mexico, in February 2021, while a disastrous winter storm slammed into his home state. The criticism, from Democrats and Republicans alike, was so brutal that Cruz immediately returned home, apologizing and admitting it was a "mistake." That didn't stop him from seemingly blaming it on his young daughters, telling KTRK in an interview that fleeing the state was their idea and he was "trying to be a dad."

Cruz’s amendment covers a range of of political VIPs:

COVERED PERSON.—The term ‘covered person’ means a Federal judge, a Member of Congress, or a Cabinet Member who, as determined by an applicable Federal protective agency, currently is or previously has been the subject of a threat, as determined by such applicable Federal protective agency.

Cruz’s bill would require the Transportation Security Administration to “arrange for the provision of a security escort at a commercial service airport for a covered person,” as well as their family and staff members. .............................

In short: A US judge has recommended a former lawyer of then-president Donald Trump lose his California law licence over attempts to keep Mr Trump in power after the 2020 election.
Joe Eastman faces 11 disciplinary charges in the state bar court stemming from his attempt to create a legal strategy which then-vice president Mike Pence could use to interfere with the certification of President Joe Biden's victory.
What's next? The judge's recommendation now goes to the California Supreme Court for a final ruling on whether he should be disbarred...................................

Hispanic Democrats kick off voter mobilization campaign

Source: The hill

by Rafael Bernal - 03/28/24 9:38 AM ET

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) campaign arm is launching its voter mobilization efforts ahead of November’s election through alliances with grassroots groups in Arizona, Florida and Texas.

Bold PAC is announcing the effort Thursday, focusing on the three states with key congressional races.

“Latino voters will be integral to the 2024 elections, deciding whether Democrats are able to defend the White House, Senate, and take back the House,” Bold PAC Chairwoman Rep. Linda Sánchez (D-Calif.) said. “There is so much at stake for our community, and the future of America, highlighting the importance of ensuring that Latinos are mobilized and energized to vote for Democrats in November,”

The political action committee’s core mission is to expand the CHC’s membership, but its unique focus on Hispanic voters gives the group unique access to that electorate, where other official party committees sometimes struggle.

The group’s turnout efforts could have an effect up-ballot, in a presidential race that could come down to extremely thin margins in Latino-heavy battlegrounds like Arizona.

In Arizona, Bold PAC is joining forces with Living United for Change in Arizona (LUCHA), where Chairman Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) is looking to fill retiring independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema’s seat in a head-to-head against former GOP gubernatorial nominee Kari Lake........................

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Supreme Court on Tuesday let stand a lower court ruling that declared some delivery drivers for Amazon were employees as the state argued, not independent contractors as the online retail giant contended.

That ruling found that drivers in the Amazon Flex program are a part of the state’s unemployment insurance system and entitled to jobless pay if they are laid off. The decision means an Amazon subsidiary, Amazon Logistics, will likely be hit with a tax bill of more than $200,000.

Stephanie Bloomingdale, president of the Wisconsin AFL-CIO, hailed the court’s action, calling it a “win for working people.”

“Far too often, especially in the emerging gig economy, big and powerful companies like Amazon use the misclassification of employees as independent contractors to deny working people essential workplace rights like minimum wages, overtime pay, and unemployment insurance,” she said................................
