A man who allegedly threatened to cut out U.S. Rep. Jim McDermotts tongue because he felt his own voice was being silenced is charged with intimidation and telephone harassment.
A man who allegedly threatened to cut out the tongue of U.S. Rep. Jim McDermott rattling the congressman so badly he brought a shovel to his office for protection has been charged with intimidating a public servant and telephone harassment.
Jasper K. Bell, 27, is being held on $200,000 bail after prosecutors allege he showed up at McDermotts Seattle office Friday and banged on the locked doors hard enough to shake furniture.
................................
During one call, he threatened to cut out the congressmans tongue because his own voice had been silenced, prosecutors allege. In another, he threatened to track down McDermott after the congressmans retirement, according to the charges.
......................................
Bell, who was arrested around 8 oclock that evening, reportedly told police that he made the threats to McDermott in an attempt to get the representative to support Sanders instead of Hillary Clinton, prosecutors said..............

Like a lot of people, I was shocked by the statement Bernie Sanders put out about Nevada. No hint of apology for his supporters behavior, lots of accusations about a rigged process when the issue in Nevada was whether Clinton should get more delegates in a state where she won the vote. .................
But maybe we shouldnt have been shocked. It has been obvious for quite a while that Sanders not just his supporters, not even just his surrogates, but the candidate himself has a problem both in facing reality and in admitting mistakes. ........................
Heres what I wrote more than a month ago:
Is Mr. Sanders positioning himself to join the Bernie or bust crowd, walking away if he cant pull off an extraordinary upset,.....................
The Sanders campaign has brought out a lot of idealism and energy that the progressive movement needs. It has also, however, brought out a streak of petulant self-righteousness among some supporters. Has it brought out that streak in the candidate, too?[/blockquote]
Im afraid that we now know the answer. And I feel sorry for all the genuinely idealistic, well-meaning people who got caught up in this terrible mess.

Univision, the nations largest Spanish-language broadcaster, has drawn more than 100,000 people to hundreds of voter registration and citizenship drives aimed at urging Latinos to vote.
The effort is part of the media companys push to expand its political reach in a year where the Latino vote could sway the outcome of the presidential race.
Univision announced in February it would seek to register three million new Latino voters the estimated number of young Latinos who have turned 18 and become eligible to vote since 2012 ahead of the November election.
[Lets be clear: Univisions 3 million Latino voter registration drive helps Democrats]
The network has since rolled out an aggressive public service and advertising campaign, in English and Spanish, on its 126 television and radio stations across the United States and social media platforms. And it is partnering with several Latino civil rights, political and advocacy groups to host town halls, staff community call centers, and launch a new texting tool that about 130,000 people from all 50 states have subscribed to.
So far, the push has drawn nearly 106,000 people to 145 citizenship workshops, forums, voter registration drives and other community events across the United States.
.............................
We want to inform and empower our audience, not just entertain them, said Jessica Herrera-Flanigan, Univisions executive vice president of government relations and public policy. As a media company, we have the ability to educate and tell people whats happening on air and off air We have the voice.
If successful, the media company could significantly alter the electorate in a way that would likely benefit presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. Trump has insulted many Latinos by vowing to build a wall between the United States and Mexico and deport the more than 11 million undocumented immigrants living in this country.
In 2012, the vast majority of Latinos, 71 percent, supported Barack Obama. A record 27.3 million Latinos will be eligible to vote in the 2016 presidential election, according to Pew Research....................................

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO Former U.S. President Bill Clinton promised Puerto Ricans on Tuesday that his wife, Hillary Clinton, will fight for equal treatment of the economically struggling U.S. territory if shes elected president.
He also said she backs immediate action to restructure the islands $70 billion public debt as the local government warns it is running out of money for essential services.
She believes that the United States has failed to provide truly equal and adequate treatment to the people of Puerto Rico, he said to applause from a crowd clutching umbrellas under a searing sun. This country is supposed to work for everyone, and that includes the people of Puerto Rico.
Clinton visited the island ahead of the June 5 primary, and officials say the Democratic presidential candidate herself will come before the vote. Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders visited on Monday.
Clinton said that his wife would seek to reduce Puerto Ricos dependence on oil to lower expensive power bills and that she s
upports the right of Puerto Ricans to vote in presidential elections since theyre U.S. citizens.

WATCH Donald Trump Unleashes New Attack on Bill Clinton
..................When asked during a CNN interview if she felt "compelled to defend your honor, the honor of your husband," she said, "No."
"I know that that's exactly what he is fishing [for], and I'm not going to be responding," she said.

"Trump is doing what he does best attacking when he feels wounded and dragging the American people through the mud for his own gain. If thats the kind of campaign he wants to run, thats his choice," Hillary Clinton's campaign spokesman Nick Merrill said in a statement released shortly after Trump made the accusation during a Fox News interview.
"Hillary Clinton is running a campaign to be president for all of America. Its not surprising that after a week of still refusing to release his taxes and likening Oakland and Ferguson to the dangers in Iraq, of course he wants to change the subject. So while he licks his wounds, we'll continue to focus on improving the lives of the American people," Merrill added.
The accusation came up during the presumptive Republican nominee's appearance on Sean Hannity's Fox News show. ................

Bernie Sanders is playing a dangerous game. If he and his campaign continue their scorched-earth attacks against the Democratic Party, they will succeed in only one thing: electing Donald Trump as president.
I say this as someone who shares much of Sanderss political philosophy; I, too, for example, see health care as a basic right. He has run a remarkable and historically significant campaign, pulling the party to the left and pumping it full of new progressive vigor. His crowds are almost as big as Trumps and perhaps even more enthusiastic. Most important, he has brought legions of young people into the political process.
But he hasnt won the nomination.
Hillary Clinton has an insurmountable lead in pledged delegates, earned by her performance in primaries and caucuses. In the aggregate, she leads Sanders by about 3 million votes. The will of the party is clear: More Democrats prefer Clinton over Sanders as their nominee.
Instead of accepting this obvious fact, the Sanders campaign is behaving like a 2-year-old who cant have ice cream for breakfast. All along, Sanders and his aides have claimed that the party establishment was unfairly tipping the scales in favor of Clinton. Now the Sanders people have gone further and are deliberately stoking anger and a sense of grievance less against Clinton than the party itself. This is reckless in the extreme, and it could put Trump in the White House. .....................................

Bernie Sanders Issues Statement Raising Doubts That Hillary Clinton Will Be The Nominee
After Hillary Clinton had told CNN that she will be the Democratic nominee, Sen. Bernie Sanders issued a statement where he painted the Democratic nomination as still up for grabs.
In response to former Sec. of State Hillary Clinton telling CNN that she will be the Democratic nominee, Sen. Bernie Sanders said, In the past three weeks voters in Indiana, West Virginia, and Oregon respectfully disagreed with Secretary Clinton. We expect voters in the remaining eight contests also will disagree. And with almost every national and state poll showing Sen. Sanders doing much, much better than Secretary Clinton against Donald Trump, it is clear that millions of Americans have growing doubts about the Clinton campaign.
The Sanders campaign was implying that there is still some room for debate about who will be the Democratic nominee, but that room for debate is 4%. Hillary Clinton is 96% of the way to clinching the Democratic nomination. Sen. Sanders did win in Oregon, Indiana, and West Virginia, but Hillary Clinton won in Guam and Kentucky, so the Democratic voters in those contests disagreed with Sen. Sanders.
At some point, the denial of basic math begins to look silly. Sen. Sanders should stay in the race. He has an important message on the issues that he should deliver to every remaining Democratic primary voter, but Bernie Sanders is not going to be the Democratic nominee.
.......................
Sen. Sanders is keeping his promise to fight until every ballot has been cast, but his claim that there is still any doubt about who will be the Democratic nominee is not realistic. By no later than June 7, Hillary Clinton will have enough delegate support to be the Democratic nominee.
