Newly Reopened Ice Cream Parlor Closes After Getting Mobbed By Impatient Customers

One employee quit after she had “some of the most vulgar and disgusting words hurled at her,” said the owner of Polar Cave Ice Cream Parlour in Massachusetts.[/b

An overwhelming mob of customers at a newly reopened ice cream parlor led to the business immediately shutting down again and a teenage staffer quitting after she was subjected to an “unyielding verbal assault” from impatient patrons, the owner said.

“In 19 years of operation this is the lowest feeling I have ever felt,” Mark Lawrence, owner of the Polar Cave Ice Cream Parlour on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, posted on Facebook Friday night.

The family-run business in the town of Mashpee had announced it would reopen for Mother’s Day weekend and that its coronavirus-related social distancing guidelines that would require customers to place their orders at least an hour in advance.

Unfortunately, many people were not pleased with this request.

Customers turned on a 17-year-old employee, who had worked at the store for the past three years while saving for college, when she became overwhelmed with orders, Lawrence said.

“She was met with an unyielding verbal assault with some of the most vulgar and disgusting words hurled at her, these shouldn’t be heard in a men’s locker room, never mind directed to a teenager!” ........................................

"There is zero evidence that this virus came out of a lab in China," says scientist Peter Daszak abo

“There is zero evidence that this virus came out of a lab in China,” says scientist Peter Daszak about the origins of coronavirus. He says the Wuhan lab doesn’t even have, in its inventory, the virus that causes COVID-19.

Trump administration cuts funding for coronavirus researcher, jeopardizing possible COVID-19 cure

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-administration-coronavirus-vaccine-researcher-covid-19-cure-60-minutes/

An American scientist who collaborates with the Wuhan Institute of Virology had his grant terminated in the wake of unsubstantiated claims that COVID-19 is either manmade or leaked out of a Chinese government lab.

2020 May 11

Peter Daszak is a scientist whose work is helping in the search for a COVID-19 cure. So why did the president just cancel Daszak's funding? It's the kind of politics which might seem ill-advised in a health crisis. President Trump is blaming China's government for the pandemic. The outbreak was first detected in the city of Wuhan. The administration has said, at times, the virus is man-made or that, if it's natural, it must have leaked out of a Chinese government lab. Both the White House and the Chinese Communist Party have been less than honest. And so, in China, and the U.S., the work of scientists like Peter Daszak is being undercut by pandemic politics.

Peter Daszak is a British-born American Ph.D. who's spent a career discovering dangerous viruses in wildlife, especially bats.

In 2003, in Malaysia, he warned 60 Minutes a pandemic was coming.

Peter Daszak in 2003 interview: What worries me the most is that we are going to miss the next emerging disease, that we're suddenly going to find a SARS virus that moves from one part of the planet to another, wiping out people as it moves along...................................

Texas Salon Owner Jailed for Defying Lockdown Order, Took $18,,000 in PPP Funds

The View‘s Sunny Hostin Confronts Texas Salon Owner Jailed for Defying Lockdown Order: You Took $18,000 in PPP Funds

https://www.mediaite.com/tv/the-views-sunny-hostin-confronts-texas-salon-owner-jailed-for-defying-lockdown-order-you-took-18000-in-ppp-funds/

The View held an engaging conversation on Monday with Shelley Luther, the Dallas salon owner who has drawn public interest over her refusal to comply with Texas’ coronavirus shutdown.

Luther became an icon to lockdown protesters last week when she opened her salon before the Lone Star state started rolling back social distancing restrictions amid the pandemic. She was ordered to a week in jail for contempt of court after refusing to apologize or pay a fine, though she was released after just two days, and she has drawn garnered support from numerous conservative figures since then.

As Luther shared her story with the show, she said she was compliant with the state lockdown at first, but she spoke about how difficult it was for her and her staff to file for unemployment benefits.

“Government help was not coming, and no one was really even replying to any SBA loans that we were applying for,” she said. “You couldn’t get through, the website was crashing.”

Sunny Hostin eventually noted that Luther did receive a federal loan, even though Luther has claimed that it only came through for her on Sunday.

“You applied for small business loans and unemployment, and you did receive some aid from the government. You received $18,000,” Hostin said. “I understand why people feel so strongly about going back to work because they feel that the government isn’t doing its job and taking care of people, but in this instance, two days before you went to court, the money went into your account. So I’m troubled by that.”...

Trump ripped for 'racist temper tantrum' against Chinese-American reporter Weijia Jiang

On Monday, President Donald Trump’s coronavirus press briefing came to an abrupt halt after he demanded CBS reporter Weijia Jiang “ask China” why so many Americans were dying of COVID-19 — and stormed out after Jiang demanded to know why he had ordered the Chinese-American reporter in the room to answer for China.

Twitter commenters instantly blew up over the altercation, and slammed the president for his behavior...................

Wisconsin retail stores can let customers come inside, with restrictions

Source: Green Bay Press-Gazette

Published 3:23 p.m. CT May 11, 2020 | Updated 4:26 p.m. CT May 11, 2020

All stand-alone or strip-mall based retail stores across Wisconsin are now able to offer in-person shopping, as long as customers are limited to five at a time and social distancing practices are maintained, Gov. Tony Evers announced Monday.

Wisconsin Department of Health Services Secretary-designee Andrea Palm signed the order Monday that allows customers to enter stand-alone or strip-mall based retail stores. The order also allows drive-in theaters to operate with some restrictions. The new order for nonessential retail stores goes into effect immediately.

.........................

The new order is "focused on small retailers," Evers said during a call with reporters Monday afternoon. He does not anticipate larger stores like Menomonee Falls-based Kohl's Corp. to open for just five customers. The idea is to start small and monitor the transmission of the virus, Evers said.

"The retail stores that we're talking about are a smidgen of the size of Walmart," he said. Main street retailers that have been closed for weeks to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus are the ones Evers expects to see open.

Face coverings are strongly encouraged for all staff and customers and social distancing requirements must be observed. Stores that operate under the new guidelines must establish lines outside the store to regulate entry with markings to show where customers should stand. Stores may have to limit its occupancy to fewer than five customers to ensure that physical distancing requirements are observed.

Hughes said adhering to physical distancing guidelines and wearing face masks is not just for the safety of customers but for employees.

Jill Wine-Banks Warns Barr Is Dismantling Our Government Institutions

Source: Crooks and Liars

5/11/20 4:04am

"It does send a message that no one should trust the Department of Justice and the FBI, and those are serious, long- lasting threats to our democracy," she said.

Joy Reid introduced a segment with Jill Wine-Banks about Bill Barr's shocking decision to drop charges against Michael Flynn.

...............................

SCHIFF: What this will mean as a practical matter is in courtrooms all across the country, where prosecutors are bringing legitimate cases, juries will wonder: Is this really a valid case or is this Bill Barr's Justice Department once again acting politically and not in the interest of justice? So he's undermining his own people around the country, and at the same time it is a continuation of the same kind of political patronage now in the Justice Department that Donald Trump has brought about.

And Speaker Pelosi issued a statement saying that Barr's politicization of the Justice Department knows no bounds, Michael Flynn pleaded guilty, now attorney general Barr's Justice Department is dropping the case to continue the cover-up for the president," Reid said to Jill Wine-Banks.

"Are you surprised there have not been massive number of resignations from the Department of Justice?"

"I am not surprised that there aren't more. I am proud there are so many," Wine-Banks said.

"No prosecutor who is a career prosecutor has been involved in this. Both in terms of the Stone sentencing, prosecutors withdrew, in terms of this, prosecutors withdrew. I think something that both David and Michael said is really true, this is an attempt to dismantle the institutions of our government, it is to dismantle the Department of Justice, the FBI, it is dismantling anything that had to do with the Russia investigation, the Mueller probe.

Trump "asked why his valets weren't ordered to wear masks before this week,"!!

Trump is a bad example for his staff to follow. stupid man!

As virus draws closer to him, Trump turns to 2020 and stokes fears about voter fraud

(CNN)As President Donald Trump has tried to move past the pandemic, it edged even closer into his inner circle of advisers Saturday with news that top members of the coronavirus task force will self-quarantine, in some form, after coming in contact with an individual who tested positive for the virus.

It was yet another blow to the President's argument that America has largely vanquished the coronavirus threat, as he looks to turn his focus toward the economic recovery that will be the lynchpin of his fall reelection campaign.

The news that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Robert Redfield, Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn, and Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert, are all entering either full or partial quarantine was a harsh reality check that the virus has now worked its way into the highest corridors of power. This followed revelations last week that Vice President Mike Pence's press secretary and Trump's personal valet tested positive for coronavirus.
Pence spokesperson Devin O'Malley said Sunday the vice president "will continue to follow the advice of the White House Medical Unit and is not in quarantine."

Trump appeared only briefly Saturday for a photo op in the presidential setting of the White House Cabinet Room where he met with top military brass. Neither the President nor the participants wore masks, even though the virus has clearly infiltrated the West Wing.

The infections seem to be rattling the President, who's eager to see the country reopen. In conversations this weekend, Trump has expressed concern that aides contracting coronavirus would undercut his message that the outbreak is waning and states should begin reopening, according to a person who spoke to him.

He's expressed frustration at the positive tests in the West Wing and has asked why his valets weren't ordered to wear masks before this week, according to the person. He's told people he doesn't want to be near anyone who hasn't been tested and has bristled when coming into contact with some people at the White House, according to the person who spoke to the President.

Democrats Are Prepared To Lose The First Special Election Of The Pandemic Era

at least this race got Trump's panties in a tight wad!! te he.

Democrats Are Prepared To Lose The First Special Election Of The Pandemic Era

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/democrats-are-prepared-to-lose-the-first-special-election-of-the-pandemic-era_n_5eb73071c5b69c4b317b9277

The party has tried to turn the race into a referendum on Trump’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, but other factors have the GOP in the lead.

Absentee ballot returns and internal polling from both parties indicate that Mike Garcia, a GOP former fighter pilot and defense industry executive running with Trump’s endorsement, is now a clear favorite over Assemblywoman Christy Smith.

The race was set after Hill, a Democrat, resigned from Congress following reports she had an affair with a staffer – a messy scandal that still looms over the election and is hurting Smith’s chances of victory, Democrats said.

“There are no two ways to slice it. We are down right now,” Smith’s campaign wrote in a fundraising email to supporters on Friday. “Republicans are turning in their ballots faster than Democrats. We might just lose this toss-up election.”

Even though Democrats outnumber Republicans in the district, Republicans have greatly outnumbered Democrats in returning the ballots that were mailed to every voter in the district because of the pandemic...............................................

Still, there is a possibility Smith will be able to close the gap in the final days. Democrats successfully fought to open a voting center in a minority-majority city in the district for the final days of the contest ― a development that has infuriated Trump, who spread falsehoods about the decision on Saturday.

“So in California, the Democrats, who fought like crazy to get all mail in only ballots, and succeeded, have just opened a voting booth in the most Democrat area in the State,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “They are trying to steal another election. It’s all rigged out there. These votes must not count. SCAM!”

No shortage, but flour and yeast in short supply during pandemic

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The great toilet paper shortage of 2020 has seemed to die down for the most part.

But some baking items are now in short supply in stores: Flour and yeast have been a little harder to find.

..............................

One of the more popular items is baked goods. McIntosh estimates there’s been a 10-15% increase since the pandemic.

...........................
It’s the same story at Needler’s Fresh Market, where more products are coming in, bigger shipments and a better variety, too. But on the top shelf, where the yeast is supposed to be, it’s been empty for the three to four weeks.

“Flour is getting back in stock, but we did suffer for quite a while with it being short,” said Needler’s Store manager Steve Nevitt.

Beech Grove is home to one of the largest flour mills in the country. Although ADM officials won’t tell us about the production, nationwide demand for consumer use of flour in the home has gone up 154% since March according to Amy Cornell, president of the Agribusines Council of Indiana.

..........................

She said you can’t just flip a switch and go from producing 50-pound bags of flour for restaurants to 5-pound bags for a kitchen.
