Source: Frustration in White House over ABC interview

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump chastised his acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney for coughing during the taping of a TV interview, ordering the aide out of the Oval Office while he was in the middle of an answer.

Trump, during an interview with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos that aired Sunday, was in the middle of telling the journalist about releasing a financial statement when Mulvaney sounded off a cough that can be heard during the President's remark.

"Let's do that over. He's coughing in the middle of my answer," Trump said, pointing toward Mulvaney.
"Yeah. OK," Stephanopoulos said.

"I don't like that, you know, I don't like that," Trump said, as Stephanopoulos notes that the cough is from "your chief of staff."

"If you're going to cough, please leave the room. You just can't, you just can't cough," Trump said, shaking his head. "Boy, oh boy."......................

Trump tells supporters to ignore polls that say he's losing

(CNN)President Donald Trump is charging into his re-election launch week by warning his supporters that polls, including by his own campaign, showing him trailing Democratic front-runner Joe Biden are not real.

Trump hit back Monday after his team fired several pollsters whose early swing state surveys angered the President when they showed him lagging behind in states like Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania that paved his way to the White House.

The controversy threatened to detract from Trump's big launch rally in Orlando, Florida, on Tuesday night meant to make a big splash for a re-election campaign that in reality has been in full gear ever since he took office.
In a Monday morning tweet, the President warned his followers not to believe any polling that showed him trailing Democrats.

"Only Fake Polls show us behind the Motley Crew. We are looking really good, but it is far too early to be focused on that. Much work to do! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" Trump wrote.................

It’s hard to blame Donald Trump for feeling discouraged by the latest 2020 polls. The president is struggling in battleground states; his internal polls are reportedly “devastating”; and the latest national polls suggest, at least for now, that the Republican is likely to lose next year.

Indeed, a Quinnipiac poll released yesterday afternoon showed Trump trailing six leading Democratic contenders in hypothetical general election match-ups, with former Vice President Joe Biden leading the incumbent by 13 points.

Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll, said, “It’s a long 17 months to Election Day, but Joe Biden is ahead by landslide proportions.”

During a brief Q&A with reporters at the White House yesterday, Trump suggested that polls he doesn’t like should be seen as “fake.” On Twitter this morning, the president elaborated on the subject.

“The Fake News has never been more dishonest than it is today. Thank goodness we can fight back on Social Media. Their new weapon of choice is Fake Polling, sometimes referred to as Suppression Polls (they suppress the numbers). Had it in 2016, but this is worse.

“The Fake (Corrupt) News Media said they had a leak into polling done by my campaign which, by the way and despite the phony and never ending Witch Hunt, are the best numbers WE have ever had. They reported Fake numbers that they made up & don’t even exist. WE WILL WIN AGAIN!”

If you saw this on Twitter and the missives disappeared soon after, it’s because Trump originally misspelled “their.” He deleted the original tweets and then republished them soon after without the typo...............................................

Trump won't fire Conway despite federal agency recommendation

The Hatch Act explained

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump said Friday that he would not fire his adviser Kellyanne Conway, despite the US Office of Special Counsel's recommendation that she be removed from federal service for several violations of the Hatch Act.

"No, I'm not going to fire her. I think she's a terrific person," Trump told Fox News' "Fox and Friends."

"I got briefed on it yesterday and it looks to me like they're trying to take away their right of free speech. And that's just not fair," Trump added. "She's got to have the right of responding to questions."

The US Office of Special Counsel recommended on Thursday that Conway be removed from federal service, saying she violated the Hatch Act on numerous occasions.

John Diedrich, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Published 5:00 a.m. CT June 13, 2019 | Updated 4:00 p.m. CT June 13, 2019

ATF agents across the country have been working to track down thousands of guns and firearms parts that had been seized by law enforcement and were supposed to be destroyed but were stolen first, according to sources familiar with the effort.

The agents are searching for some of their own retired service weapons as well as guns from other federal law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and DEA.

All of the weapons had been sent to the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' National Firearms and Ammunition Destruction Branch in Martinsburg, West Virginia, to be shredded, according to court documents and congressional letters.

A longtime guard at the ATF facility has admitted to carting off thousands of firearms, gun parts and ammunition and selling them over several years............

Former US Attorney Joyce Vance Slaps Down Trump Claim He Can Do Whatever He Wants: ‘His Power is Not Limitless’

By Connor Mannion Jun 16th, 2019, 4:33 pm

MSNBC contributor Joyce Vance slapped down President Donald Trump’s invocation of the Constitution to say he has broad power, with Vance contending the president’s power “is not limitless.”

The former U.S. Attorney was appearing on Weekends with Alex Witt Sunday afternoon, where she was asked a host of questions by anchor Frances Rivera–including a question about Trump invoking Article 2 of the Constitution, saying it “allows me to do whatever I want.”

“Is he wrong here?” Rivera asked. “Would you know any other lawyers or counsel who would see it in that way that he does?”

“The president is not a constitutional scholar and his interpretation of article 2 is flawed,” Vance said. “Even his Attorney General, William Barr, wouldn’t go so far as the president seems to go saying he can do anything he wants to do.”

Fox News poll shows Trump trailing Biden, Sanders, other Democrats

Source: thehill

By Zack Budryk - 06/16/19 09:57 AM EDT

A Fox News poll released early Sunday shows President Trump trailing five Democratic contenders, including former Vice President Joe Biden, by as many as 10 points.

The poll, conducted June 9 to June 12, shows Biden ahead of Trump, 49 percent to 39 percent. It also shows Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) topping the president, 49 percent to 40 percent.

Three other candidates also polled ahead of Trump, albeit within the survey's margin of error. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) came out ahead of Trump by 2 points, while Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) and South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D) have 1-point leads. ......................................

California poll: Warren surges to second, Harris falls to fourth

Interesting to say the least.

California poll: Warren surges to second, Harris falls to fourth

By CHRISTOPHER CADELAGO

Elizabeth Warren is threatening Joe Biden’s front-runner standing in California, and Kamala Harris is showing signs of weakness in her delegate-rich home state, according to a new poll.

A new UC Berkeley-Los Angeles Times poll found Biden leading with 22% of likely Democratic primary voters; followed by Warren and Sanders, who are at 18% and 17%, respectively.

Harris (13%) and South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg (10%) are the only other 2020 presidential contenders to exceed 3% in the survey, which was directed by pollster Mark DiCamillo, who for years led the venerable Field Poll.

Warren’s surge into a tie with Sanders aligns with other recent polls that show her cutting into Sanders’ support with liberal voters. But it’s particularly notable in the Super Tuesday state of California, where Sanders has set up camp since his 2016 loss to Hillary Clinton, and where his team has pointed to structural advantages that in mere months have seemed to dissipate.

An April Quinnipiac University poll of the California primary had Biden at 26% among Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters, followed by Sanders at 18% and Harris at 17%. Warren and Buttigieg were at 7%.

Utah Rep. Chris Stewart says it would be ‘foolish’ for a candidate not to look at foreign intel against an opponent

https://www.sltrib.com/news/politics/2019/06/14/utah-rep-chris-stewart/

Updated: 23 hours ago

Washington • Rep. Chris Stewart, a Utah Republican who sits on the House Intelligence Committee, said Friday that it would be “foolish” not to take information from a foreign government pertaining to an election campaign.

While Stewart said he wouldn’t have said it the way President Donald Trump did to ABC News — the president said he would take intel from a foreign government and maybe not alert the FBI — there’s good reason to look at the information they may be offering.

“It depends on who it is and the circumstances and how credible it is,” Stewart told CNN's Jim Scuitto. “There might be valuable information that comes from one of our allies. If they look at it, and it’s credible, I think it would be foolish not to take that information.”

Stewart specifically mentioned that the intel could come from one of the United States’ allies, like the United Kingdom or Australia, two countries that are part of an intelligence-sharing agreement called the Five Eyes.

“They may have information that is valuable,” Stewart said.
................

...................

The Utah congressman, who has been an unwavering Trump defender during special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation and that of the House Intelligence Committee, said one would have to look at the “circumstances and how credible” the information is before deciding to contact the FBI.

Why Trump’s view of accepting foreign opposition research is ‘textbook illegal’

President Trump has caused a new outcry by declaring that he would accept information about a political opponent provided by a foreign government. The admission comes after Robert Mueller warned of significant Russian interference in the 2016 presidential campaign. Yamiche Alcindor reports, and Judy Woodruff talks to former federal prosecutor Shan Wu and Trevor Potter of the Campaign Legal Center.

Read the Full Transcript

Judy Woodruff:

Special counsel Robert Mueller made clear in his only public appearance since his report that Russia's interference in U.S. elections is a concern for all Americans.

But, as Yamiche Alcindor reports, President Trump has now cast doubt on a key part of that premise.

Yamiche Alcindor:

A stunning admission:

President Donald Trump:

It's not an interference. They have information. I think I would take it.

Yamiche Alcindor:

In an exclusive interview with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos, President Trump said he would accept information on political opponents from a foreign government.

President Donald Trump:

I think you might want to listen. I don't — there's nothing wrong with listening. If somebody called from a country, Norway, we have information on your opponent. Oh, I think I would want to hear it.

Yamiche Alcindor:

Last month, the FBI director said, if offered dirt by foreigners, candidates should contact the FBI.

Christopher Wray:

I think my view is that, if any public official or member of any campaign is contacted by any nation-state or anybody acting on behalf of a nation state about influencing or interfering with our election, then that's something that the FBI would want to know about.

Yamiche Alcindor:

Today, the president defended himself. He compared his recent meetings with the queen of England with receiving politically damaging information from foreign adversaries. Mr. Trump tweeted: "I meet and talk to foreign governments every day. Should I immediately call the FBI about these calls and meetings?"

The reaction on Capitol Hill was mixed. Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, a close ally of Mr. Trump, said the president's comments were a — quote — "mistake."
