Obama Ties GOP Climate Critics to ‘Fringe Elements’

President Barack Obama took aim at lawmakers who deny that carbon pollution is a problem, saying Wednesday night that they are answering to “fringe elements” who think climate science is a liberal plot.

Speaking to a friendly crowd at a League of Conservation Voters event, the president took a hard line against those who question the science of climate change as he touted his administration’s efforts to cut carbon emissions and protect public health.

Mr. Obama said he seldom encounters average Americans who dispute that carbon pollution is an issue.

“Generally, they don’t just say, ‘No, I don’t believe anything scientists say,’” the president said of the people he meets.

“Except where?” he asked the crowd. “In Congress. In Congress. Folks will tell you climate change is a hoax or a fad or a plot. It’s a liberal plot.”

Breakthrough in solar panel manufacture promises cheap energy within a decade

A breakthrough in the production of solar cells will make the next generation of solar panels cheaper and safer, and promises to accelerate the development of solar energy over the next decade, scientists said.

A technical advance based on an edible salt used in the manufacture of tofu could revolutionise the production of future solar panels to make them less expensive, more flexible and easier to use than the current models seen on millions of roofs across Britain.

Researchers believe they have found a way of overcoming one of the most serious limitations of the next generation of solar panels, which are based on toxic cadmium chloride, by simply adding magnesium chloride, an abundant salt found in seawater.

A study has shown that the solar cells produced with magnesium chloride – which is also found in bath salts as well as used to coagulate soya milk into tofu – work just as efficiently as conventional cadmium cells but at a fraction of the cost and with much lower toxicity.

Appreciation Thread: For those who post totally worthless Crap--Which makes up 98% of the news today

I just wanted to personally thank you for all the stories filled with the helpless and hopeless, the terrorism and wars, the death and the dying, and of course, the stories that only political pundits can make up.

These days are filled with such uncertainty and gloom from shore to shore that I just wanted to say thanks for your unswerving dedication to the art of making me feel worse after reading your depressive drivel.
